He attends Hayes HS in the Bronx and plays with Wiz Kids on the adidas 3ssb circuit alongside top 75 prospect Elijah Moore (Syracuse commit). Wiz Kids faced off against Mass Rivals, last year's adidas champs, in Bryan Texas to close out week 2 of the adidas 3ssb circuit. Rivals are led by Kur Teng (Michigan State commit), Texas A&M commit Andre Mills and George Turkson among others. This game went down to the wire! Chris Brickley is known for training some of the NBA's top stars and multiplatinum musical artists like Drake and J Cole with his company BlackOps Basketball. This year his Brickley Invitational for the nation's top high school players (sophomores-seniors) took place in downtown Chicago. Brickley put the players through NBA-style workouts the morning before the big game. We caught the group featuring '23 Matas Buzelis (Sunrise Christian) who's committed to play next season for G League Ignite and Cooper Flagg (Montverde Academy) the '25 Maine native who's one of the top prospects in HS regardless of class. Also in this group is Worcester Academy 2-sport star TJ Power ('23 Duke basketball/baseball commit) and '24 6'9 Jason Asemota from the Boston area. We caught the Prolific Prep freshman Stokes and his talented Vegas Elite 17U squad tuning up for Nike EYBL at Recruit Look's event in Lynwood, IL (near Chicago). The team was tested by some local/regional teams that included unsigned seniors but Vegas Elite prevailed in all the games. Stokes looks poised for a BIG AAU season at Nike EYBL!

Led by 5 Division 1 seniors Miles Rubin (Loyola), Wes Rubin (UNI), Jalen Griffith (Jacksonville), Kaden Space (Stony Brook), Sam Lewis (Toledo) Simeon won the Chicago city title weeks earlier. Small town (4,700 pop) Metamora lost last season's championship game in double OT so they were ready. Their lone d1 commit is Ethan Kizer (South Alabama). Texas was well represented on the West squad by Kentucky commit Cason Wallace (22), Keyonte George (Baylor), and Anthony Black (0). Arterio Morris was playing with the East Squad. Kanye West AKA Ye and his Donda Academy Doves Prep High School Basketball Team have been playing coast to coast this season (based in California).
Led by 5-star level players such as Rob Dillingham, Zion Cruz and Jakhi Howard, JJ Taylor is the lone player from Ye's hometown of Chicago. Top 10 player in 2023 and Taylor returned to Chicago to play The Battle vs Chicago Prep at UIC Pavillion near downtown.
Spectators were told to wear black and the gym was packed. Ye, Antonio Brown, DaBaby, G Herbo, Justin Laboy and Chicago Bulls Lonzo Ball, DeMar DeRozan and Javonte Green were among those sitting Courtside. Check out the full highlights from Ballislife.
The former Chicago Morgan Park and Kenwood star JJ Taylor and NC State commit PG Rob Dillingham were the standouts in the win. Jalen Hooks from Indiana showed out for the midwest too!

Chicago High School Basketball Culture is Strong.

The South Side's Simeon Career Academy is known as a Public League basketball powerhouse, coached by Robert Smith. Kenwood Academy is quickly on the rise as the city's newest basketball powerhouse under coach Mike Irvin. These 2 Red South foes only meet once a year so the city came out for the biggest game in nearly 2 years (no crowds last season). It was a BATTLE. See how Chicago produces the toughest players.

Kenwood features Dai Dai Ames (star PG), senior Trey Pettigrew (Nevada), shooter Darius Robinson, ranked Davius Loury (picked up Florida offer after the game) and freshman Bryce Heard (and more). Simeon is led by senior guards Jaylen Drane and Aviyon Morris. Also jr PG Jalen Griffith and the Rubin brothers Wesley and Miles. Both teams have depth too.

Former Simeon stars (state champs) Jabari Parker and Jaylon Tate were in the gym to support their Wolverines. JP also played AAU ball for Coach Irvin and Mac Irvin Fire. Check out these highlights.

Chicago Simeon Career Academy is known for producing NBA Players like Derrick Rose, Jabari Parker, Kendrick Nunn and Talen Horton-Tucker. In recent years Curie High School has won Chicago City titles and Illinois 4A Basketball state titles.

The 2 Chicago Public League (Red South conference) high school basketball powerhouses met in the championship game of the 90th Pontiac Holiday Tournament in Pontiac Illinois. Curie came in undefeated for the season. Simeon is undefeated in Illinois (lost out of state).

Curie led at the half but check out the full highlights!

Simeon PG Jalen Griffith had a standout game and Wesley Rubin won tournament MVP (AC Williamson award). Jaylen Griffith and Aviyon Morris also starred in Simeon's backcourt. Carlos Harris was a bright spot for Chicago Curie. Chikasi Ofama had a strong tournament for Curie as well. Can't wait for the rematch!

Talen Horton Tucker might be the youngest player on the Los Angeles Lakers' roster at age 20, but he plays like a VET!

The Chicago native turned up (for the second consecutive week) to play at the Dreamville Chi-League powered by Wilson at Chicago State on the city's South Side. THT starred on this same court for Simeon Career Academy's basketball team just 3+ years ago.

For the finals, THT teamed up with OKC rookie Jeremiah Robinson Earl (Villanova) and Chicago basketball vets including Jerome Randle (Cal), Jaylon Tate (Illinois) and more. They faced Sterling Brown's team (he didn't play) which featured Rayjon Tucker (fresh off Sixers summer league) and Jeremy Pargo among others.

Seen in the gym: Chicago Bulls rookie Ayo Dosunmu talking with legend Tim Hardaway. Also Chicago Bears Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery sat behind the bench. Former Kentucky PG Tyler Ulis was under the basket.
It was a close game throughout (1-5 point margin). It came down to the final shot(s). You won't want to miss this instant (pro am) classic from Chicago!

James Brown and Kaden Space are 2 of Chicago's rising high school basketball stars. They're teammates at Chicago St Rita HS. 6'7 James Brown is the top ranked player in Illinois' Class of 2024 and is considered a national prospect. He runs with Mac Irvin Fire 15U Nike EYBL Squad. Kaden Space is one of the top shooting guards in the Chicago Catholic League and already holds D1 offers as a junior to be. He runs with Young N Reckless on the Prep Hoops Circuit.

While they team up all season long for high school, you can't coach the competitive nature out of Chicago's toughest players. Mac Irvin Fire's 15U squad played up at Young N Reckless 16U (one of the Midwest's top independent AAU teams) at Prep Hoops' event in Aurora, IL. It was truly a battle with trash talking throughout. In the end, YNR got the W but you can decide who got the best of the matchup...

And when fall HS ball tips off, James Brown and Kaden Space will be trying to bring a conference title and more to St Rita on Chicago's South Side.

Jaden Schutt Has College Offers from Michigan State, Louisville, Oklahoma, Illinois, Wisconsin, Marquette, Penn State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Dayton, Iowa, Xavier, Creighton, Northwestern, Nebraska, Providence, DePaul, SIU, Drake, UIC and probably more we're forgetting. He's not ranked in the top 100 nationally. But coaches know what they see and 6'4 Schutt can shoot, pass, rebound and score.

He plays at a tiny school called Yorkville Christian (Yorkville, IL). His HS squad played at the Ridgewood HS Shootout near Chicago during June's live period where we caught him in action. Perhaps, best known as a shooter/scorer, Schutt showed there's more to his game (and he's more athletic than he's given credit for).

There were tons of head coaches in the stands including Coach Tom Izzo from Michigan State Spartans and Coach Brad Underwood from Illinois Fighting Illini. We also spotted coaches from Iowa, Northwestern and more.

We caught the 6'7 14 year olds playing against Nike team BABC 2025 and the RI Breakers ELITE at the Zero Gravity Hall of Fame Qualifier: Maine United 2025 went 2-0 Saturday, May 15th with a massive margin of victory (31 and 45 points!). Led by 14 year old twins Ace Flagg and Cooper Flagg from Newport Maine, the Maine United team continues to emphasize defense, toughness and team play against their AAU competition. How soon until the duo picks up D1 Offers?!

Chicago is a basketball Mecca! Each spring the city's top AAU travel teams hit the road but rarely play against each other. At the Chicago Elite Invitational Meanstreets EYBL 17U squad faced Team Rose (adidas) squad. This also happened to be Derrick Rose's former AAU team versus his namesake current team. Rose's brother Reggie Rose sat courtside for this one.

Meanstreets has a loaded squad including Jalen Washington, Andre AJ Casey Jr, Ty Rodgers, Robbie Avila and Dalen Davis. Team Rose tough squad includes Xavier Amos, Adidas Davis, Tye Banks, Justin Page and more. It was a well-played, intense, physical game.

In the end, Meanstreets got the W and picked up the championship but hopefully these teams will play again!

Matas Buzelis is just scratching the surface of his basketball potential. The 6'9 16 year old forward is just starting to get recognized by national scouts and coaches but we expect things to heat up quickly!

From Willowbrook, IL, the Brewster Academy sophomore has been playing with Mac Irvin Fire's 16U squad this Spring. Buzelis' length and skillset immediately standout. In spite of having no normal HS basketball season, Matas already has early offers from Illinois, Kansas, Providence, Syracuse and Wake Forest. We hope to catch Matas in action again soon.

Playing with Mac Irvin Fire's 16U EYBL AAU team, Taylor is surrounded by the top, most exciting players from the Chicago area. 2 of Taylor's Kenwood Academy HS teammates PG Darrin Ames and big wing Davius Loury are stars on this squad as well as Brewster Academy's Matas Buzelis. They play a FAST EXCITING INTENSE brand of basketball.

They traveled to Bill Hensley Run N Slam in Fort Wayne where they faced scrappy Ohio squad OBC. It got heated with a dose of trash talk from both sides! Gabe Cupps is known as one of the top 2023 shooters in the Midwest if not the nation. Many learned his name when he played alongside Bronny James back on North Coast Blue Chips and shot jumpers with LeBron James. This week Cupps is playing up with Midwest Basketball Club at 2021 Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam in Ft Wayne Indiana.

The big 17U matchup of the day featured Cupps and Midwest Basketball Club vs Jaden Schutt and Illinois Wolves. From the Chicago area, Schutt is moving up the national rankings and holds TONS of high major offers including Oklahoma, Penn State, Providence, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Marquette, Illinois and more!

Midwest Basketball Club picked up the narrow victory but not before it got heated!

Nike EYBL Teams usually spend April playing on the Nike Circuit on the road to Peach Jam. 2021 is different so teams are scattered across the nation at regional and local events. 2 of the top Nike teams in the Midwest battled at Chi Town Tipoff in Aurora Illinois (near Chicago) on the Prep Hoops Circuit.

Nike Meanstreets led by top 2022 stars AJ Casey, Jalen Washington and Ty Rogers faced Brad Beal Elite led by elite guards Nick Smith and Jeremy Fears among others (Brandon Miller wasn't in Aurora). As expected it was a close game throughout with both team making runs in front of the biggest crowd of the weekend at M14. The stars shined. In the end Kam Craft made the final shot of the game to win it for Meanstreets at the buzzer 70-69 but you'll want to see ALL the highlights!

Tyler Herro's youngest brother, 14 year old Myles Herro and his Team Herro 14U squad tipped off the 2021 AAU schedule by winning NY2LA Swish N Dish. They knocked off Mac Irvin Fire (EYBL) and a tough Milwaukee Spartans (adidas) team to win it.

Myles is the starting PG. He's an unselfish, pass-first guard but he made his shots. Xzavion Mitchell was Team Herro's primary scorer so you'll see plenty of assists from Herro to Mitchell.

Look for young floor general Herro (and his older brother Austin Herro) on the Nike basketball circuit for years to come! Following in their older brother Tyler Herro's (Miami Heat) footsteps!

Myles Herro and his Team Herro 14U team saw their first action of the 2021 AAU basketball season at the annual 2021 NY2LA Swish N Dish in Wisconsin.

The youngest brother of Tyler Herro, (Miami Heat) Myles starts at point guard. He's a steadying unselfish, skilled guard who is more of a floor general than perhaps his high-scoring older brother used to be.

The best game of the day (in the Final 4) matched Team Herro vs Mac Irvin Fire 14U, a tough, talented Nike team from the Chicago area. In the end 6'6 Xzavion Mitchell (#2) was too much for Mac Irvin's defenders and Team Herro pulled away. Herro's squad went on to win the championship!

Bryce Hopkins might not be a national name when it comes to high school basketball. Fenwick (near Chicago) hasn't played a national schedule during this shortened season but the Friars had the chance to win the prestigious Chicago Catholic League title for the first time since Hopkins' freshman season.

Facing a tough Loyola squad, Fenwick was down 14 points in the 4th quarter when the Kentucky commit took over in his final career home game.

The list truly shows the global reach of basketball with many of the players coming from around the world to play high school ball in North America at some point. Some of the players on the list made it all the way to the NBA and some haven't (yet). If you're wondering, 2021 7-foot+ star Chet Holmgren just missed the cut!

Best high school basketball game of the year?! It's early in the Chicago area as the season is just starting but this basketball game had it all!

Top 10 (in Illinois) players Kentucky commit Bryce Hopkins versus Harvard commit Louis Lesmond, SIU commit Troy D'amico and uncommitted 2-sport star Anthony Sayles. 2 top 10 teams, Niles Notre Dame vs Oak Park Fenwick.

Normally this would be a soldout standing room only game in the Chicago suburbs but the crowd was limited due to health and safety protocols.

Hopkins was dominant for Fenwick Friars but Lesmond was ON FIRE throughout. The French native scored 35 points including a buzzer beating three pointer for the ages! Made it to ESPN Sportscenter Top Ten plays for the night!

Mike Foster isn't turning 18 until February of his senior year in high school (at Hillcrest). The 6'9 basketball star and his talented Hillcrest team out of Arizona flew to Foster's hometown of Milwaukee Wisconsin as sort of a senior night celebration at the Coast to Coast Prep Classic.

Mike Foster dropped 40 points to go with 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the Hillcrest 109-77 win. He passed 2500 points for his career.

Fellow Milwaukee native Chanti Clay added 14 points 6 rebounds 4 assists.

Foster hasn't announced his plans for next year but some wonder if he's the next player to go from prep to pros?

Tyler Herro first made his name at Whitnall HS near Milwaukee Wisconsin. Now the Miami Heat's star's younger brother Austin Herro is following in his footsteps!

The young 2023 guard flashed some impressive passing skills to go with his 11 points at the game we caught.

In the end Whitnall faced one of the hottest high school guards in the midwest, Seth Trimble (younger brother of JP Tokoto). The 2022 guard scored career high 45 points!
Trimble's Menomonee Falls squad picked up the 82-75 win over Whitnall.

Max Christie is one of the top-rated shooting guards nationally in the Class of 2021. The 6'6 Rolling Meadows, IL senior has committed to play college basketball next season at Michigan State for Coach Izzo. But before that Max is teamed up with his younger (10th grade) 2023 brother Cameron Christie in the Mustangs backcourt.

This was the Mustangs first game in 11 months since Illinois HS basketball was canceled last March.

The home game versus conference foes Buffalo Grove went down to the wire. Max finished unofficially with 26 points, 11 rebounds, 6 blocks. Cam finished with 14 points in the 68-63 win. Buffalo Grove was led by Kam Craft (17 points, 13 rebounds) who was swarmed by Rolling Meadows defenders.

Chet Holmgren and #1 Minnehaha Academy boys basketball team battled tough Wayzata to remain unbeaten!

The Minnehaha Academy boys basketball team earned a 70-63 win over Wayzata (5-2) in the Redhawks’ toughest test of the season on Thursday.

Chet Holmgren and Prince Aligbe led the #1 Redhawks (5-0) with 19 points each, while Isaiah Davis contributed 14 and Mercy Miller added 11. Junior Carter Bjerke hit five threes in a 15-point performance for Wayzata (5-2).

Patrick Baldwin Jr is one of the top recruits in the nation for the Class of 2021. Baldwin and his Hamilton Sussex squad faced top-ranked junior in Wisconsin Seth Trimble in Menomonee Falls' season opener.

The top senior and junior in Wisconsin went head to head before Baldwin exited early with an ankle injury. Trimble finished with 35 points! But the visiting Hamilton squad picked up their star and got the 71-63 road win.

You'll see why Trimble already has offers from Iowa State, Arizona State, TCU, USC amd UW Milwaukee (coached by Patrick Baldwin Jr's dad Patrick Baldwin).

Duke basketball is known for recruiting 5-star level talent. This season's freshman class is no different! Coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff have assembled what is considered a top 3 recruiting class (with Kentucky and UNC). There are six players ranked in the Top 45 nationally (according to 247 sports).

While the class is highlighted by #11 overall player Jalen Johnson, every member of the group ranks among the top seven players at their positions in the country. Check out these highlights of DJ Steward, Jalen Johnson, Jeremy Roach, Mark Williams and Jaemyn Brakefield.

While Ballislife cameras seem to be almost everywhere, unfortunately we didn't catch Henry Coleman but we look forward to seeing the Combo forward in Blue and White!
