The NBA season and the NBA Draft have come and gone but that doesn't mean we have to wait until the new season to get our basketball fix.
This is where players may not have been lottery picks or even picked at all to showcase their skills for their team to obtain a roster spot in the upcoming 2024/2025 NBA season. Let's kick things off with a matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the Portland Trail Blazers.
With that said, we take a look at this NBA 2K25 Summer League matchup to make a Spurs-Trail Blazers prediction and pick.
San Antonio Spurs (0-0)?will be coming into their fourth game this summer after competing in the California Classic where they ended with just a 1-2 record. They dropped both their first two games by 20+ points before ending with a win against Team China to salvage their time at the California Classic.
The Spurs will be without the vast majority of their core young players from their summer league lineup but they will have the No. 4 overall pick in the NBA draft taking the court after a good California Classic.
The Spurs did have a second first-round draft pick in Rob Dillingham. Eventually, they traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves for more future draft picks which shows the Spurs are still looking toward their future even after the upcoming season.
Stephon Castle wasn't the only player that had a good end to the California Classic as the rest of this summer league squad was getting their fair share of looks against Team China.
While the Spurs may not be star-studded when it comes to their summer league squad as they did last year, they still have the players to get the win in the first game of the NBA 2K25 Summer League.
Portland Trail Blazers (0-0)?will be in their first action this summer when they step on the court in Las Vegas to take on the San Antonio Spurs. There will be a ton of hype surrounding this game with the Trail Blazers No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft Donovan Clingan making his summer league debut.
Clingan isn't the only exciting player that the Trail Blazers are looking forward to seeing in action with returning players like Kris Murray and Ryan Rupert entering their second year and then you have third-year player Justin Minaya looking to make their mark.
The Portland Trail Blazers have a great group of young core that will be looking to put on a show in their first outing together in the summer and will be looking to take it to the Spurs on Saturday night.
The Portland Trail Blazers should have a leg up in the NBA 2K25 Summer League opener when it comes to their NBA experience and more promising prospects. They have numerous players with multiple NBA seasons under their belt coming into this matchup.
With the little talent that the Spurs have coming into this game, it'll be tough for them to overcome as the Trail Blazers just edge this one out in a closely contested matchup.
FINAL SPURS-TRAIL BLAZERS PICK & PREDICTION: PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS: -3.5 (-106)
