The Chicago Sky looks to bounce back quickly from its loss against the Seattle Storm while the Atlanta Dream aims to break its four-game losing skid as both teams fight for the season series lead on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Wintrust Arena.
After taking an eight point lead at halftime, the Sky found themselves down by seven heading into the fourth after being outscored by the Storm 29-14 in the third.
Chicago tried to claw its way back into the game unloading an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to three, 72-69 with 2:49 to play but crucial hustle plays from Seattle ended the Sky’s hopes of a comeback.
Chicago returns home after a three-game road trip when it takes on a struggling Dream squad which is currently riding a four-game streak.
Atlanta is coming off a blowout loss to the Connecticut Sun last Sunday where they found themselves bleeding for offense.
In their last matchup against Chicago, Charles and Gray combined for 38 but it wasn’t enough to thwart the balanced Sky offense which got contributions from everyone to beat the Dream and tie the season series. With the season series lead up for grabs, let’s preview how both teams look in this Chicago Sky vs. Atlanta Dream sports betting predictions article.
Unlike their previous matchup where they came in as +1.5 underdogs, the Chicago Sky heads into this match as the six-point favorites and for a good reason.
Throughout their past three road games where the Sky went 2-1 (win-loss), the 25-year old Carter has been averaging 26.7 points per game.
Now the Sky returns to the Windy City to take on a short-handed Dream squad who will be missing one of its top scorers in Rhyne Howard.
Another thing worth noting is Atlanta is currently dead last in points per game and field goal shooting percentage. With Howard out of commission, expect the Sky to capitalize and impose its backcourt dominance against the Dream who will also be missing guards Aerial Powers and Jordin Canada in this game.
Plus, Chicago has enough firepower to limit Dream forward Tina Charles down low in Angel Reese who is coming off a historic game against the Storm.
Everything has gone from bad to worse for the Atlanta Dream since Rhyne Howard went down with an injury late last month. As a matter of fact, the Dream has only won once in their past eight games.
Amidst all the chaos, one would understand that you would be hard-pressed to find something positive in the Dream’s play lately.
Surprisingly, though, there is something Atlanta bettors can take solace heading into the Dream’s matchup against the Chicago Sky.
During its road win against Chicago, versatile forward Tina Charles led the Dream’s offense with 22 points while Cheyenne Parker-Tyus added 18 markers.
It is also worth noting that the Sky is among the worst teams when playing at home. Chicago is 4-7 when playing at home this season. What’s even worse is they have only covered the spread three times when playing at home.
All things considered, backing the Dream to cover the spread despite the injuries to its top guns is not far-fetched, especially with the Sky’s past performances at home.
The Chicago Sky is one of the worst teams in the league as far as ATS record is concerned. On the flip side, the Atlanta Dream is one of the best.
In a perfect world, Atlanta should cover but the Dream’s current world is far from perfect.
Injuries are hurting this team’s chances of making it to the playoffs and it should continue to hurt against a potent Chicago team. Unless something catastrophic happens, Chicago should cover the spread.
