Seattle Storm Vs Las Vegas Aces Predictions: WNBA Team Analysis

  • After dropping a 94-83 decision to the Aces last month, the Storm has been on an impressive run of successes, winning five of their last six games with the last being an 84-71 beating of the Chicago Sky.

Against the Sky, Seattle relied on the heroics of former league MVP Nneka Ogwumike who delivered 24 points and 12 rebounds to help the Storm grab its 14th win of the season.

Next up for the Storm is another red-hot team in the Las Vegas Aces who has won seven of their last eight games, including a 104-85 demolition of the Dallas Wings last Sunday.

Top MVP candidate A’ja Wilson had a monster 28-point and 10-rebound double-double effort while Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young contributed 23 and 18 markers respectively for the Aces.

Why will the Seattle Storm cover the spread?

Ever since that double-digit loss to the Aces on the road last month, the Seattle Storm has completely reinvented themselves, winning five of their last six games.

  • A huge part for its success can be attributed to sweet shooting guard Jewell Lloyd who has been bonkers in their past six games, averaging 23.2 points per game.
  • Despite its stellar play, Seattle heads into the game against the Aces as the five-point underdog which is not surprising considering the pedigree of their opponents.

On paper, the Las Vegas Aces might be the most talented team in the league.

But what is concerning for the Aces is their dismal 3-5 ATS record away from home.

  1. In its last road game against the Los Angeles Sparks, the Aces came in as -13 favorites.
  2. The Aces did not only fail to cover but they wound up losing to the Sparks 98-93.

Now, the Aces take on a red-hot Seattle squad which holds the best home record in the league this season. Across 11 home games this season, the Seattle Storm holds an excellent 9-2 (win-loss) record.

  • The Storm has also beaten the Las Vegas Aces 78-65 at home earlier this season.
  • If that’s not good enough, Seattle has also covered the spread eight times when playing at home, making the current -110 odds for them to do the same against the Aces a reasonable punt.

For Seattle to get the job done, though, they will need Lloyd to step up against the Aces.

The 30-year old Lloyd was only limited to a single point on 0-for-nine shooting the last time they faced. Playing in front of her home fans, expect Lloyd to head into this game with a chip on her shoulder.

It is worth noting that the last time the Storm played the Las Vegas Aces at home this season, Lloyd scored 25 points and nine rebounds.

Why will the Las Vegas Aces cover the spread?

Winners of seven of their last eight, the Las Vegas Aces hope to build on their blowout win against the Dallas Wings when it battles the Seattle Storm, a team they’ve already beaten earlier this season.

  • In their previous matchup with the Storm, the Aces came in as -6 favorites and they more than covered the spread beating Seattle by 11 thanks to big games from Jackie Young and A’ja Wilson.
  • The 26-year old Young exploded for 32 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field while A’ja Wilson added 27 points to tie the season series at one apiece.

Albeit a five-point loss to the Los Angeles Sparks last week, the Aces have been beating teams by double digits in the past seven games. Most recently, Las Vegas dealt the Dallas Wings one of its worst losses of the season with a 19-point beatdown over the weekend.

Although the Storm is one of the best home teams in the league, the Aces are no slouch when playing on the road, holding a 5-3 record.

What’s even more impressive is the Aces have only lost once this season on the road when point guard Chelsea Gray is playing. The 31-year old Gray, who was instrumental to the Aces run for the title last year, was sidelined at the start of the season after suffering from a lower leg injury.

It is also worth noting that Gray was MIA in the Aces’ 78-65 loss against the Seattle Storm earlier this season.

However, when Gray played in their second matchup, the Aces defeated the Storm 94-83. With Gray back to orchestrate Las Vegas’ offense, backing them to cover the spread at these current odds should offer value for punters wanting the Aces to overtake the Storm in the standings.

Final Seattle Storm vs. Las Vegas Aces Prediction: Las Vegas Aces -5 (-110)

There is no better way of saying it: this match is a pick ‘em and could go either way. The odds certainly reflect that. When that happens, I usually go with the slight underdog but this time around I’m going with the Las Vegas Aces to win and cover the spread.

While the Storm has an impressive record at home, I am far more confident in the defending champions to get the job done, especially with Chelsea Gray back in the lineup.
