Bengals vs Chiefs Prop Bets: Best Bets, Prop Picks for Week 2 (Sunday, September 15)

Publish Date: 09/13/2024
Fact checked by: Allan Howe

After a stellar win on opening night over the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs will look to keep it rolling in Week 2 when they welcome one of their biggest rivals.

The Cincinnati Bengals, specifically Joe Burrow, looked less than their best in a Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots but after playing the reigning champs very closely in the last couple of years should see this as a grand opportunity to make a statement.

How can we best capitalize on this popcorn matchup with the many betting markets available to us? Let's get into the best prop bets to make for Bengals vs Chiefs in Week 2.

BEST NFL PROP BET: RASHEE RICE OVER 65.5 RECEIVING YARDS (-114)

We'll start with a no-brainer here, which is to bet on Rashee Rice continuing the masterful run which began late in his rookie season last winter.

  • The Bengals sat dead last in the NFL with 7.1 net yards allowed per attempt a season ago, and while they added safety Geno Stone over the offseason in an attempt to shore up the secondary, they've returned most of the same personnel here.
  • Their line only managed to sack Jacoby Brissett once in Week 1, and with a strong showing against the run the Chiefs should once again take aim at this weak pass defense.

Rice should be the beneficiary, recording 127 yards on five catches against the Bengals in Week 16 last year to close out his regular season which came in the midst of a six-game stretch where he averaged 86.3 yards per game and went over this number four times. He'd later add a 130-yard explosion in the first round of the playoffs against the Dolphins.

The young wideout was featured heavily against Baltimore, lading the tam with nine targets and seven grabs which went for 103 yards. With the history in this matchup and the targets flowing his way ever since November of last year, I expect big things.

BEST NFL PROP BET: JOE BURROW OVER 236.5 PASSING YARDS (-114)

The Chiefs did allow Lamar Jackson to shine through the air in Week 1, allowing him to complete 26 of 41 passes for 273 yards as Derrick Henry was limited to just 3.5 yards per carry on his 13 totes.

  • That's a slight issue here for Kansas City, considering the Bengals were forced to pass on 72% of their plays last week -- the second-highest rate in the NFL.

I know we're a little scared of Joe Burrow in this spot considering he still seems hampered by the wrist injury he sustained late last year, but we're being offered a generous discount in a big game for Cincinnati.

  • Burrow threw 41 times against the Chiefs the last time he saw them, which was two seasons ago in the playoffs, and while he didn't throw as much in the regular season meeting between the two teams he still managed to rack up 270 yards or more in each showing.

The Chiefs' secondary certainly isn't a liability, but it's still lacking the quality which would make it one of the best in the league. They looked a bit befuddled against Jackson last week, and with the Bengals throwing the rock a ton I think we can get home on a very reasonable line.

BEST NFL PROP BET: NOAH GRAY OVER 1.5 RECEPTIONS (-110)

It feels like I'm on this prop during every big Chiefs game, and Sunday's showdown with the Bengals isn't the time to stop believing in Gray.

  • The Chiefs'?other tight end has emerged as a trustworthy option for Patrick Mahomes, hauling in all three of his targets in Week 1 for 37 yards and catching eight of 11 passes thrown his way in the playoffs last year.
  • Gray was targeted two or more times in 14 of his 17 games last season, and in just four of those games did he fail to record two receptions.

We know the Chiefs' gameplan should include a ton of passing, and while Rice may emerge as the star here, Gray should be in line for plenty of work.

  • The Bengals struggled to contain the Patriots' tight ends last week, allowing two catches apiece to Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry on a total of seven targets.

There should be plenty of opportunities for Mahomes' skill position players to get open, and judging by Cincinnati's dreadful performance on defense last season and its inability to cover the tight end position a week ago, we should once again be able to take one of the most generous and consistently profitable props around.
