Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets: betting odds and predictions for Jun 12th

Publish Date: 06/12/2024
Fact checked by: Allan Howe

The Miami Marlins came into this road matchup against their division rivals the New York Mets winning just one game out of their last seven games but they were able to be victorious in game 1 of this three-game series. Jesus Luzardo quieted the New York bats as the Marlins gave him just enough run support in a 4-2 victory.

The New York Mets were fresh off that London trip which seemed to affect their timing at the plate as they tried to get acclimated to the East Coast timezone. The Mets were 4-1 coming into game 1 of this series and will be looking to get back on track on Wednesday night.

Miami Marlins

Miami Marlins (22-43)?are the bottom-feeders in the NL East winning just 22 of their 65 games so far this season. They came into game 1 of this series against the New York Mets with just 1 win in their last 7 games as they've been struggling to not only score runs but keep runners off the basepaths.

However, the Marlins got the Mets at a great time to get back on track as they got them just a day after they got back from a trip across the pond in London.

Jesus Luzardo was able to take full advantage limiting the Mets to just 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 in 5.2 innings. The Marlins hope they can continue this momentum when they send Braxton Garrett to the mound in game 2 of this series.

  • Braxton Garrett has a 2-1 record with a 5.81 ERA and 1.22 WHIP on the season.

However, he is coming off an outing where the Tampa Bay Rays roughed him up. He gave up five runs on six hits across just 2.2 innings while striking out three.

  • In his two games before that romping, Garrett gave up just 1 run on 10 hits with 8 strikeouts in 14 innings with one of those games being a complete game shutout of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Marlins certainly haven't been in their best form at the plate just averaging 2.7 runs and 5.6 hits per game while hitting just .174 over their last 5 games but they were able to give just enough run support to Luzardo in last night's game that they were able to overcome their struggles.

With a Braxton Garrett that looks poised to shut down this New York Mets lineup, it's up to the Marlins to give him the run support he needs, and if they are able to do that they can continue their winning ways on Wednesday night.

New York Mets

New York Mets (28-36)?were coming off a split of a series with the first-place Philadelphia Phillies over in London, England. However, they struggled mightily in their first game back on the East Coast. That could be attributed to the jet lag and the weather at Citi Field.

Now, after getting acclimated to being back home the Mets will be looking to get back to their winning ways where they were 4-1 coming into the first game of this series against the Marlins.

  • The Mets will be sending David Peterson (1-0, 3.09 ERA) to the mound in game 2 of this series.

He has only played in two games this season as he's been on the Disabled List for the majority of the season.

  • However, he's been efficient in both outings just giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 12 hits with 5 strikeouts in 11.2 innings.

That efficiency will come in handy against a Marlins team that has been struggling at the plate this season, especially over their last 5 games.

The Mets have been hitting the ball very well over their last 5 games as well.

  • They are averaging 5 runs, 9 hits, and 1 home run per game while hitting .260 with a .337 OBP.

Going against a struggling Braxton Garrett is good news for the bats of the Mets who will be looking to get back to their consistent ways at the plate.

As long as Peterson can do his job and keep this lowly Miami Marlins lineup in check the Mets should be able to get the runs needed to get back on track on Wednesday night.

FINAL MARLINS-METS PICK & PREDICTION

The Miami Marlins got back on track last night against the Marlins but are still just 4-6 in their last 10 games but they have a leg up on the season series winning 3 of 4 games.

The New York Mets are 6-4 in their last 10 games despite dropping the first game of this series against the Marlins as they look to gain ground on the Marlins in the season series when they take the field on Wednesday night.

While the Marlins played good baseball last night, they draw a tough matchup against the Mets tonight against David Peterson, and with the Mets going against a struggling Braxton Garrett they should put runs on the scoreboard and take it to the Marlins and get back into the win column.
