NFL Parlay Picks Today: Thursday Night Football Week 3 Patriots vs Jets September 19

Publish Date: 09/19/2024

The New York Jets are off and running after a disappointing loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, and now on a short week they'll welcome the New England Patriots to town in their home opener on Thursday Night Football.

There are a wealth of great markets to target in this one as New York's offense looks to be rounding into form while its defense lags behind a bit against the run, and with so much to choose from it's a wonderful night to bet a same-game parlay.

Let's take a look at a couple of Jets wideouts who should get involved in this one before looking for the best way to exploit this team's struggling run defense with an overlooked Patriots back.

Best Same Game Parlay for Patriots vs Jets in Week 3

Odds: +1817 at FanDuel

  • Mike Williams 3+ Receptions (+130)
  • Allen Lazard Anytime TD (+360)
  • Antonio Gibson Over 22.5 Rushing Yards (-110)

Mike Williams 3+ Receptions

It's abundantly clear that the Jets are ready to get Mike Williams involved in the offense after easing him into action to open the season in San Francisco.

  • New York's big off-season signing played just 18% of the team's snaps in his first game back from the season-ending injury he suffered with the Chargers last season, but last week saw the field for 65% of the snaps.
  • Williams was targeted just once in that game, catching a 19-yard pass, but as he continues to take the field more often should see plenty more passes thrown his way here.

The big wideout should draw Christian Gonzalez here, a second-year corner that had success a season ago but has had a slow start with a 61.7 player grade according to Pro Football Focus through two weeks of play.

The Patriots have ranked just 21st in dropback success rate this season as they've exceled in stopping the run and making open-field tackles, but their coverage has been suspect at best. This is as good a spot as any to back a breakout for Williams.

Allen Lazard Anytime TD

This will be where we begin to swing big, and I don't think there's a better price on the board in this one than Allen Lazard to find the end zone.

  • Through two weeks, Lazard is tied for second among all wideouts with four red zone targets, catching two of them and scoring one time.
  • He's clearly this team's preferred option down by the end zone when they elect to pass with his big frame, and considering he didn't score against Tennessee after scoring twice in Week 1, we'll be afforded an excellent discount in Week 3.

According to PFF, Lazard has been able to gain separation from his man in nine of 14 total opportunities, ranking first on the Jets, and separation is all he'll need if New York is able to get down near the end zone with an opportunity to score.

New England has allowed a touchdown in a middling 40% of red zone opportunities this season, and if the Jets' rushing attack stalls -- something that's possible considering it's stalled out in both of its games this season -- Lazard should be the beneficiary through the air.

Antonio Gibson Over 22.5 Rushing Yards

The Jets' rushing defense has made an undrafted, unknown running back in Jordan Mason into a star and allowed Tony Pollard to look the part of a dominant back in Week 2. It's graded out as one of the worst five units in football according to PFF, which should be a big storyline in this one.

While the public will likely look to Rhamondre Stevenson in an effort to capitalize here, I think we're a bit priced out of this market with the line set rather high on New England's feature back.

Instead, I'll pivot to Antonio Gibson, who's fresh off a 96-yard game against the Seahawks in Week 2.

  • Gibson carried the ball 11 times in that one after receiving seven touches for 18 yards in Week 1, and you'll find a very generous line on him Thursday if you choose to back him to have more success.
  • The veteran played 22% of the snaps in Week 1 and 24% of the snaps in Week 2, and as the Patriots look to lean heavily upon the run with a clear advantage I think he'll touch the ball even more here.

You could also opt to go for Jacoby Brissett's total, or simply pay up for Stevenson, but this is definitely the best value on the board. Keep in mind, too, that linebacker C.J. Mosley is likely to miss this game with an injury while the Jets are now missing Jermaine Johnson on the line.
