NFL Anytime Touchdown Scorer Predictions: Who Will Score on Sunday, September 15?

Publish Date: 09/13/2024
Fact checked by: Allan Howe

We're moving on to Week 2 in the NFL, and with that we can take what we've learned in Week 1 and put it to work this Sunday as we aim to take advantage of a slow-adjusting betting market.

I'll be eyeing three players who I expect to find the end zone in Week 2, from a popular young tight end to a speedy wideout and a quarterback that we don't normally think of as a runner.

Let's get into the best Anytime TD bets in the NFL on September 15.

NFL Anytime Touchdown Scorer Prediction for Week 2: Isaiah Likely

Best Isaiah Likely Anytime TD Odds: +270 (FanDuel)

We'll get a bit bolder than this as we move on, but the first stop here will be backing the Ravens' trendy young pass-catcher to find the end zone once again in Week 2 against the Raiders.

  • Likely caught one touchdown in a Week 1 loss to the Chiefs, memorably coming inches away from a second as the clock was expiring late.
  • He's clearly moved ahead of Mark Andrews on the depth chart, hauling in nine of 12 targets against Kansas City after emerging as this team's biggest weapon (other than Lamar Jackson) on offense a season ago.

With Andrews injured, Likely finished the season with five touchdowns in his last five regular season games and caught another in the Ravens' first playoff game prior to their 17-10 loss against the Chiefs in the Divisional Round.

Likely received three red zone targets last week, matching a league-high, and should receive at least one more here against Las Vegas.

  • While the Raiders did a bang-up job in the secondary against Justin Herbert, they were scorched on the ground and that should allow the run-happy Ravens to move the ball down the field with ease -- setting up some red zone opportunities for Jackson's favorite target.

I don't expect this price on Likely to last as we hit the next few weeks of the season, and I recommend taking advantage now.

NFL Anytime Touchdown Scorer Prediction for Week 2: Justin Herbert

Best Justin Herbert Anytime TD Odds: +450 (Caesars)

The Panthers allowed a league-worst 25 rushing touchdowns a season ago and are fresh off a loss to the Saints where they allowed two scores on the ground. After allowing 4.9 yards per carry in that one, you might think I'm looking towards L.A.'s two horses in the backfield to find paydirt here, right?

Wrong! I've got my eyes fixated on quarterback Justin Herbert at the beautiful price of +450.

  • Despite the fact that we don't generally discuss him as a dual-threat quarterback, Herbert did rank just outside the top 10 of all quarterbacks with 12 rushing attempts in the red zone last year, carrying the ball in three times.

Herbert did rush once against the Raiders for eight yards prior to taking a few knees to end the game, and as the game turned into a blowout his legs very quickly weren't needed.

He's shown us that he's interested in running, at the very last, with 19 attempts for 152 yards from Week 8 to Week 11 last year before his injury in Week 13, and with the Chargers expected to make several red zone trips against one of the worst teams in football I think the chances that Herbert sneaks into the end zone one way or another are better than this.

NFL Anytime Touchdown Scorer Prediction for Week 2: Darius Slayton

Best Darius Slayton Anytime TD Odds: +400 (Caesars)

To take us home, I'm thinking of a big play. I want to take advantage of a Commanders defense which allowed seven net yards per pass attempt last season, ranking second-worst in the league, and allowed a whopping nine net yards per attempt in Week 1.

  • Daniel Jones may be one of the most terrifying guys to put your trust in, but we do know he's going to be throwing the ball a ton here.
  • New York threw at the third-highest clip in football during Week 1 after ranking ninth last season, a testament to just how bad this defense has been.

While rookie Malik Nabers has been stealing all the headlines with this team, it appears that Slayton is still the leading deep ball threat. He was second on the Giants last week to only Jalin Hyatt with an Average Depth of Target of 8.5 yards, but crucially for this bet he saw 72% of the offensive snaps against Minneosta while Hyatt was on the field for just 23%.

  • With the Commanders' severe lack of talent in the secondary, chances are that when the Giants do score through the air it'll be on a big gainer as opposed to a red zone look.

Slayton's game-breaking speed was finally utilized late last year, when he caught a touchdown in each of New York's final three games on just 16 catches. He's a YAC machine who should get behind his man plenty here, and to matters sweeter one of his four games which featured a touchdown grab last year happened to come against the Commanders.

I do like Nabers to score here as well, but the odds on Slayton are too good to ignore. He caught three of four targets last week and was deep down the field when he did see the ball come his way, leading him into a very exciting spot on Sunday.
