The Boston Red Sox come into this series with the Toronto Blue Jays after taking two of three from their divisional rivals the New York Yankees in dominating fashion. They outscored the first-place Yankees 17-7 and will be looking to continue their momentum when they head to Toronto in this week's matchup.
As for the Toronto Blue Jays, they sit second to last in the AL East just one game below .500 but are coming off back-to-back wins after taking two of three from the Cleveland Guardians. The Blue Jays will be looking to take it to their divisional foes and extend their winning streak when they play host on Monday night.
With that said, we take a look at this matchup to make a Red Sox-Blue Jays prediction and pick.
Boston Red Sox (37-35)?are starting to look like a team that could make a push for a wild card spot come playoff time. They took it to the New York Yankees during their home series taking two of three from the series and outscoring the Yankees 17-7 in the final two games.
They will be looking to keep that offensive surge going when they head to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays who are also getting hot at the right time.
Pivetta comes into this matchup against a struggling Blue Jays squad at the plate and he will try to take full advantage on Monday night.
The Boston Red Sox have done a great job at getting after the Yankees starting pitching in their two-game winning streak where they roughed up Marcus Stroman and Carlos Rodon for 9 runs in 10 innings.
If Pivetta can return to the form he just two games ago while the Red Sox continue to swing a hot bat, they can extend their winning streak to three and take game 1 on the road in this series in Toronto.
Toronto Blue Jays (35-36)?are now 6-4 in their last 10 games while taking two of three from the visiting Cleveland Guardians while looking like they are playing their best baseball as of late.
Kikuchi is coming off back-to-back dominant performances against the Milwaukee Brewers and the Baltimore Orioles where he allowed just 1 run on 7 hits with 11 strikeouts in 11 innings getting the win in both games.
Kikuchi will look to bring that recent success in his game against the Red Sox who he's had success against in a small sample size. However, it's the Blue Jays bats who are going to do most of the work in this matchup against Nick Pivetta and the Red Sox. They have some great numbers over the years against Pivetta:
If Kikuchi can keep his form and limit the hot bats of the Red Sox through 5-6 innings, the Blue Jays bats can get after Pivetta and give him much-needed run support to extend the Blue Jays winning streak to three in a row.
Both the Red Sox and Blue Jays are surging coming into this matchup riding two-game winning streaks and they will be looking to extend their winning streaks on Monday night in game one of this series.
With that said, it looks like the Blue Jays are finally showing some life at the plate in recent games which is going to come in handy in this matchup against Nick Pivetta who they have a good track record against.
As long as Kikuchi can keep the Red Sox bats in check the Blue Jays should produce enough runs to extend their winning streak to three in their home stadium.
FINAL RED SOX-BLUE JAYS PICK & PREDICTION: TORONTO BLUE JAYS (-132)
