On the main card, there is a barnburner in the lightweight division between Kurt Holobaugh and Kaynan Kruschewsky. Both fighters will be eager to get the win on Saturday after coming up short in their last fight.
With that said, we take a look at this main card event fight between these two lightweights and give out our prediction and pick for this Holobaugh-Kruschewsky matchup.
Kurt Holobaugh (20-8-0, 1 NC) became The Ultimate Fighter when he submitted fellow teammate Austin Hubbard via a second-round triangle choke. However, his second stint with the UFC didn't start out so great as Trey Ogden dominated him for a unanimous decision defeat.
Kurt Holobaugh is now just 1-5 during his time with the UFC but has won 5 out of his last 6 fights with 2 of those coming during his time on The Ultimate Fighter. He comes into this fight with a boatload of experience compared to his counterpart Kaynan Kruschewsky.
Holobaugh is the type of fighter that can win anywhere the fight goes.
He is at his best when he's the one pressing forward looking to bring the fight to his opponents as we saw in his TUF semifinal fight against Jason Knight. In that fight, he showed his toughness to hang in there with Knight and put it on him until Knight couldn't take any more punishment.
Against a fighter like Kruschewsky who got broken in his last fight against Elves Brener, this will be the recipe for success for Holobaugh. As long as Holobaugh can avoid the big shots from Kruschewsky and defend any takedowns thrown his way he can certainly break him down over time and get the much-needed victory.
Kaynan Kruschewsky (15-2) got his shot in the UFC after securing his contract on the Contender Series with a technical submission victory over Dyan Mantello. However, a short-notice call-up to fight Elves Brener was deemed to be too much for the Brazilian as he was flatlined in the first round with a vicious overhand left.
Before that devastating loss up a weight class on short notice, Kruschewsky had won 7 fights in a row with 6 of those 7 wins coming inside the distance. Making him a dangerous threat in this matchup for the aging Kurt Holobaugh.
Kruschewsky is a come-forward type of fighter who's not going to shy away from a fight and he's going to bring that same tenacity to this fight against Kurt Holobaugh.
Even though Holobaugh is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and is quite dangerous off of his back as we saw against Austin Hubbard, his takedown defense is lacking big time and Kruschewsky can easily exploit that weakness to its fullest extent.
With Holobaugh's lack of striking and takedown defense this is a good fight for Kruschewsky to get back on track as long as he stays disciplined, doesn't overextend on his strikes, and over-exerts himself to get himself in the win column for the first time in his UFC career.
This is an absolute banger between these two lightweights as Kurt Holobaugh and Kayna Kruschewsky go to battle.
Ultimately, these two fighters should both come forward and throw down for the UFC fans but it will be Kruschewsky who will be getting better of the exchanges on the feet as either lands something flush on the feet Holobaugh away or outworks him for a decision victory.
