]]>The post Nico Mannion’s Trainer Vaughn Compton is the Top Skills Coach on the West Coast appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>“Let’s do 10am at our private gym.”
The text message from Vaughn Compton rings through on my phone. My first training session with Arizona’s most in-demand trainer is set. He sends through additional info with an address and gate code, and reminds me not to block the homeowner’s garage(s) when I park.
After a 25-minute drive up to North Scottsdale, I pull into the type of gated community reserved for the type of upper class out here I refer to as Desert Money. Palm trees and saguaro cacti line a private road of mansions set deep into multi-acre lots. The views are stunning and the neighborhood is pristine.
My final destination is a home protected by an iron gate with a giant H forged in the middle like a royal seal. Through that gate, it’s exactly what you’d expect. A large cobblestone motorcourt with a regal fountain planted in the middle. A sprawling home with modern architecture complimented perfectly by its desert surroundings. Vaughn’s earlier text instructs me to follow a stone path around the side of the home and into the gym.
After walking down two flights of stairs, I step onto a full-size court that represents the ultimate dream home of every basketball fan in the world. It has bar stools in the top level for a good spectator’s view. It has a mini locker room for players to change and shower. A separate one for coaches. It has a full kitchen and sitting area with a couch and multiple flat screen TVs.
Vaughn Compton is intently studying game film on his iPad when I walk through the door. He smiles and greets me. We lace up and he asks me what I want to work on. Within minutes he is running me through drills I’ve never seen, telling me metaphors I’ve never heard, and pointing out things in my game I’d never been told throughout my high school or junior college playing career. When the hour is up, I end our session by making 10 three pointers in a row––something I haven’t done in years, thanks to Vaughn’s unique tips on my form and follow-through. I can’t help but laugh out loud at how such a short training session could lead to such quick improvements. As I walk off the court to grab a drink of water, I can’t help but think to myself:
This guy is the real deal.
@vaughn_compton
Long before Vaughn Compton became a trainer to Arizona’s top list of HS prospects such as Nico Mannion, Josh Green, and Jaelen House, and NBA players Marcus and Markieff Morris, he was just a high school kid with hoop dreams. Down in nearby Mesa, Vaughn was a member of Mountain View High School’s golden era of hoops. The Toros won three consecutive championships from 2005-2007, the first 5A team in Arizona to three-peat since 1961. Compton was a part of the 2005 and 2006 championship squads, where he played a supporting role to a starting five stacked with D1 talent such as former UNLV Rebel Kendall Wallace, Cal forward Harper Kamp, BYU forward Stephen Rogers, and University of Arizona guard Brendon Lavender.
Vaughn committed to a D2 school upon graduating high school, but a torn ACL in a summer pickup game derailed his collegiate career before it even began. Determined to make his hoop dreams a reality, he rehabbed and received an opportunity at another school... before tearing the same ACL again. Still dead set on his goals, he went through the healing process to give it one last shot. This time it was his other knee that blew out, marking the end of his hoop dreams for good. Or so it seemed.
Although his days of running up and down the court were over, Compton was still determined to turn his passion for the game into a career. He started Ventura Basketball Academy with his friend and former teammate Lavender, who had just finished a successful career for the Wildcats.
“I knew I still had so much to give,” Vaughn tells me after our training session. He offers me a water from the gym’s stainless steel refrigerator and then ices his knee methodically as we chat.
“I’d given my whole life to this game and knew I still had a lot to offer. You should never give up on something you love.”
Vaughn began his career as a trainer by hosting basketball camps in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area for local kids to hone their skills. At one camp he instructed young Brett Hardt Jr., a skinny 10-year-old with a pure shooting stroke, but in need of someone to help round out his game. Brett Hardt Sr., a wealthy self-made businessman from Chicago who had moved his family to Scottsdale after purchasing a local golf course, took notice of Vaughn’s passion for the game and asked if he would train his son exclusively. Brett Jr. became Vaughn’s first private client and the two went to work.
“What impresses me most about Vaughn is that he treats every player the same, from an eighth grade kid who can’t lace up his shoes to an elite NBA player,” Hardt Sr. tells me during our sit down in his private gym. He’s got silver hair and biceps like Sylvester Stallone. His watch and wedding ring sparkle with platinum and diamonds. He’s kind and personable, with an old Chicago toughness to his swagger. “He’s always completely locked in, and that makes everyone around him match that focus.”
After seeing his son’s game improve dramatically after working with Vaughn, Brett Sr. became Compton’s biggest fan and did whatever he could to ensure Vaughn and his new AAU team––the Ventura Vipers––had as much court time as they needed to be successful.
“It’s all about putting in the work,” Brett Sr. preaches in his gruff Midwest accent. “If you don’t have court time then you can’t build a team. At one point I was paying $100/hour for time at a local court. Eventually, I just decided to build my own.”
Hardt’s larger-than-life home court--––along with his dedicated sneaker room that displays 300+ pairs of exclusive Jordans––has since earned its own feature in Modern Luxury magazine as a “Sport’s Fanatics 26,000 Square Foot” dream home. It also guaranteed that Brett Jr. and all of Vaughn’s other students would have their own basketball sanctuary to work on their game.
Brett Hardt's home gym (via Modern Luxury)
The phrase “Attitude is Free”--––Hardt’s personal brand he started in business and now applies to basketball––lines the walls of his home court. It's the same slogan that now decorates the walls of Rancho Solano Preparatory School’s gym , which has since been renamed the Attitude is Free Center. Brett Jr. is now starting varsity as a sophomore for the Rancho Solano Mustangs, and the sharp shooting combo guard just received his first D1 offer from Idaho State.
“Before we met Vaughn, Brett was just a kid who could shoot the ball,” says Hardt Sr. “He has since improved every facet of his game: ball handling, defense, basketball IQ. And look, now he's a D1 prospect as a sophomore. So much of that credit goes to Vaughn and his training methods."
Brett Hardt Jr., Rancho Solano Prep, Class of 2021
"And it’s not just my kid he’s working wonders with," Hardt Sr. continues. "I’ve seen Vaughn take average high school players and turn them into college athletes. If you look at the 2A, 4A, and 6A Arizona state championship teams last year, all their key players were trained by Vaughn. That's no coincidence."
With Hardt’s investment in Vaughn’s obvious talent as a coach and skills trainer, the Ventura Vipers began winning and Vaughn’s client list grew. This set in motion a journey that would lead to another chance encounter arranged by the Arizona basketball gods two years later.
Coach Vaughn showed up to the gym for practice one day and was informed his squad would be sharing the gym with the Vipers' seventh grade team that afternoon. He set up his cones and began running the kids through his signature skill drills. It was then that he noticed a pale, redheaded seventh grader who had recently moved in from Salt Lake City.
That kid’s name was Nico Mannion.
“He had a swag to his game, even if he was all skin and bones,” Vaughn recalls. “He didn’t really look like a ball player, but he was nice. His game was smooth and you could tell he had a natural feel for it.”
Nico’s father, Pace Mannion, was watching from the bleachers that day. Pace had made the decision to move his family to sunny Scottsdale after retiring from his position as a pre and post-game announcer for the Utah Jazz. A former standout at the University of Utah and then a six-year NBA veteran (two of which were played in a Jazz jersey), Mannion Sr. then went on to enjoy a successful overseas career as a star in the Italian league. While there he met and eventually married a pretty, professional volleyball player named Gaia. It was in Siena, Italy in 2001 that the Mannions welcomed their newborn son into the world: Niccolò Mannion.
Just like Brett Hardt Sr. years prior, Pace Mannion noticed Coach Vaughn’s attention to detail, so he approached him after practice about personally training his young son.
“The game has changed so much since I played,” Pace tells me on the phone from his home in Scottsdale. “It's so much more explosive and there's so much 1-on-1 play in the game that you have to be creative in how you train these days. I liked that Vaughn was focused on that type of detailed skill work.”
As they say, the rest is history. In the past five years since Vaughn linked up with the Mannion family, that “cute little redhead” (as Vaughn jokingly describes young Nico) evolved into the Arizona Assassin. Nico’s junior season highlights went viral on social media due to his explosive skillset mixed with the novelty of seeing a white point guard with red hair playing above the rim. Today, Arizona’s top prospect sits comfortably at #8 on ESPN’s Top 100 players in the class of 2019, a ranking he believes should be even higher. The day we sit down to chat is the same day he’s been selected for the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game, a foregone conclusion but still a crown jewel in his explosive senior campaign.
“It feels good to see that all the hard work has paid off,” Nico tells me casually while putting on his shoes before an evening training session with Vaughn.
I sit and watch as the two work together for an hour. The chemistry is undeniable. They seemingly speak in their own language to one another, and even though not much is said, a lot is communicated. Nico’s signature red hair sits messy atop his head, his calf muscles bulge out of an otherwise thin frame. He’s humble and soft-spoken, but with an undeniable swagger. Most of his shots hit nothing but net with a satisfying thwip, and Vaughn preaches game speed while passionately rebounding and passing with precision.
“I honestly don’t know where I’d be without Vaughn,” Nico tells me after his session. “All I did before was just go to the gym with my dad and shoot around. I’d still just be doing that if I never met Vaughn. He’s kept me focused on days where I didn’t feel like training. He saw my potential long before I did.”
"He's the best trainer on the West Coast, maybe even the country," Nico says without flinching. "I wouldn't be where I am without Vaughn. No doubt about it."
Nico tells me he fully intends to keep working with Vaughn into college and beyond. It seems every pro player has a trainer that they came up with who helped them get to the next level, and Vaughn is “his guy.”
“He’s honestly like an older brother to me. I call him all the time to talk about everything, not just basketball.”
And while the effortless relationship between Vaughn and his star pupil is apparent, the magic of Arizona’s premier trainer seemingly extends to every player he comes in contact with.
—
Johnjay Van Es is well-known in the state of Arizona. He hosts the syndicated Johnjay and Rich radio show by iHeartRadio, and he’s an active pillar in the community. He is known for being a jokester, openly (and hilariously) posting on Instagram about his foot fetish, and filming his insane 3am ritual of ice-bathing each morning. But aside from the comedic persona, Van Es is a serious family man. So when his young son Kemp expressed an early interest and talent for the game of basketball, Johnjay sought out a personal trainer to work with him.
His search led him to Brendon Lavender, Vaughn’s partner at Ventura Basketball Academy.
“Coach Lav has been amazing for Kemp," Van Es tells me, his voice bursting with enthusiasm. "And then Vaughn is like the Tony Robbins of basketball out here. When he speaks, these kids listen. Everyone listens.”
Johnjay speaks proudly of the results that have come from Kemp’s two years of work with Coach "Lav" and Coach Compton. Young Van Es is currently averaging 15 ppg for his freshman team at Arcadia High School and, as this article is being finished, was just called up to the JV team. Johnjay attributes the success to both Kemp’s hard work and the guidance of Ventura Basketball Academy. His son brings home Lavender's and Compton's teachings after each session and practices them nonstop.
Kemp Van Es shoots a three for the Arcadia High School Titans
Apart from their sons’ success on the court, Johnjay, Brett Hardt Sr., and Pace Mannion all speak volumes of Compton’s influence in the hoop community off the court as well.
“I felt like the coolest guy in the gym when he came and sat by me at Kemp’s game the other day,” Van Es says with a laugh. “He always comes to watch his kids play and when he does, the gym buzzes. All the kids know who he is around here.”
Brett Sr. echoes the sentiment.
“What Vaughn has done extends beyond the game of basketball. He’s taken all these kids in the area and connected them through his training. They all know each other, they all come to train at my house. Typically, this type of training is exclusive but Vaughn has made it so inclusive.”
While there’s clearly much to be said for Vaughn’s work on and off the court, the fact remains that his role in training the most hyped Arizona prospect since Jerryd Bayless has shined a spotlight on his talent as a trainer.
“Vaughn is the number one trainer in the West Coast in my opinion,” says Pace Mannion, unknowingly echoing his son's earlier interview with me. It's one thing for Nico to say it, it's another from an NBA veteran who’s seen the best of the best at every level. “As Nico has been coming up the ranks the last several years, we just haven’t seen anyone do what Vaughn does.”
When asked exactly what he feels Vaughn has done for his five-star recruit son, Pace refers to Vaughn as a “godsend” for Nico and gives him the ultimate stamp of approval.
“Make no mistake, if you’re a parent and you want your son or daughter to be the best basketball player they can be, they need Vaughn Compton.”
With a resume of over 20 NCAA athletes and 19 professional basketball players on the trainer's ever-growing list of clients, it appears the secret is out about Vaughn Compton.

]]>Gabriel has worked out Raptors, Grizzlies, 76ers, Hornets, Lakers, Jazz, Kings, Thunder, Bucks and Nets and has the look of a prototypical '3&D' guy in the NBA. Wenyen has the potential to be a 2nd round steal but could end up on a two-way contract base on what Calipari said in a recent interview...
"My hope is he goes somewhere in the second round. Either way, he's probably going to have to go through that G League," Calipari said. "At the end of the day, you're not tricking the NBA. You can't play around your weaknesses. I've had guys that have gone second round and had to play their way into the NBA and it's a great way of doing it. Two-way contracts are beneficiary to those kinds of kids too."

]]>This shot of one of my favorite former Ballislife All-Americans by one of my favorite photographers is currently my favorite photo!
The high-flyer captured by Cassy Athena is future NBA 1st round draft pick Rawle Alkins aka the SavageLife CEO. The shocking dunk happened during a recent workout with IMPACT BASKETBALL. According to Shereen Rayan of ZonaZealots.com, the former Wildcat has moved to LA and trains from 9 am to 5 pm every day. The latest workout session was was filmed by Corey Porter, who has made a few videos with a few other NBA players, like Scary Terry Rozier before he became a household name and Drew Bledsoe's buddy.
Here's Corey's footage plus some other recent workouts with Rawle.
Despite watching Rawle dunk for hours (seriously, hours!) during the 2016 Ballislife All-American game weekend and posting about some of his nastiest posters at Arizona, I was still a little shocked by how high he got on that off the side of the backboard dunk. And speaking of nasty poster dunks at Arizona, this post gives me an excuse to repost his murder of USC guard Elijah Stewart. The disrespectful dunk that ended with him walking over Stewart like he was Tyronn Lue made his teammate, potential No. 1 NBA draft pick Deandre Ayton, say, "He should go to jail for that. There’s no way somebody should get away with that…I’ve never seen a dunk like that. That was some 2K animation type stuff."

]]>Less than 30 minutes after the end of Game 7 between the Pacers and Cavs and the end of Victor Oladipo's All-NBA worthy season, the Pacers All-Star texted his trainer, "When do we start? I"m ready to take it to another level."
He then got dressed and let the media know there's "no days off" on his calendar.
"I don't know how to take time off. I had somebody tell me 'take a break and enjoy your life.' This is my life."
Less than 30 minutes after the postgame interview, he was in the gym lifting weights!
I made up the last part about hitting the gym but I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me he really did this. Or any of those crazy drills with the ImPossible Training guys. Or whatever he did to make his body transform the way it did last summer.
The motivation behind his transformation in the summer of 2017 was hearing people say "Westbrook has no help" for an entire season.
“It’s going to be a very relentless summer,” Oladipo told NBA.com after his frustrating year with OKC. “I just use it as motivation, and I’m going to come back better.”
Better is an understatement. He put up career-best numbers (23.1 PTS, 5.2 REBS, 4.3 ASTS and a league-leading 2.4 STLS), made the All-Star team, will make an All-NBA team and probably get some MVP votes.
I can't wait to see the results of the work he's going to put in this summer. In the meantime, let's check out some past footage of him working out.
I wonder if he will have time this summer to (windmill!) dunk on high school basketball campers or make any new music.

]]>The post Gordon Hayward Workout & Transformation Mix Through The Years appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>(UPDATE: Hayward is taking his talents and hair products to Boston)
Heard any good trade rumors about Gordon Hayward lately? All signs are pointing to the 6'8", 226-pound All-Star ending up in Boston. If he does end up reuniting with Brad Stevens, he will probably have the first season of his career where he doesn't increase his scoring average -- he went from 5.4 as a rookie to 11.8 in his second season to 21.9 last season -- but he, his skills and perfect hair -- which has equally improved over his first seven seasons -- will probably finally get the attention it deserves.
For today's "Morning Motivation" mix, we are going to look at the workouts and training of the in-demand "missing piece" starting when he was 20 pounds lighter with a Shaggy from Scooby Doo haircut and the inability to bench press 185 pounds more than three times.
"In 2010 he needed to get bigger and stronger," Said trainer Greg Moore. "I told him, 'It's a marathon not a sprint. If you stay the course and the let the process take its course, it will happen in a natural fashion.' And it has. Every offseason has just been a stair step from the previous offseason.
"I train him to be a basketball player, not a bodybuilder. When I met him, he didn't like any of this. He just wanted to play basketball. My message to him on Day 1 was, 'I don't care if you ever like this. But at the end of the day you can appreciate what it can do for you on the court. You win. I win. We both win. And the end result has showed. He just got paid."

Later that night and into the early hours of Tuesday morning, Draymond was playing the role of Too Short's hype man and poppin' bottles at a NBA Finals after-party. Most players probably would have spent the following day laying in bed, sleeping or laying in bed for other reasons. By noon, Draymond was back in the gym and working out -- with the championship trophy in sight.
If that doesn't motivate you, then maybe the story of an overweight college player who was drafted late in the second round becoming a two-time All-Star and NBA champion would.
This was Draymond in College...
As a fairly unknown rookie with the Warriors, Draymond's weight peaked around 248 pounds. After cleaning up his diet (no more tacos) and incorporating more cardio (riding a bikes in a sauna) into his workout, he was able to shed 20 pounds going into his second season. In an article by ESPN, Draymond claims the weight loss has alleviated chronic knee pain, improved his stamina and enabled him to cut down on mental errors.
Not satisfied with his leaner body and a resume that now included All-NBA Second Team, All-Defensive First Team and NBA Champion, Draymond hired a chef and nutritionist before this season
“This year was the first time that I hired an actual nutritionist, it’s been amazing,” Green says?during an Uniterrupted video about his healthy lifestyle. “I hired a chef, and he’s been incredible. I feel like that’s completely taken me to a different level.
“All that stuff makes a difference. Until having them this year, I didn’t notice how bad I felt years prior to this. Body starts to change, starts to feel better. It’s like, man I never knew I was feeling that shitty. I tend to think, ‘Ah man, if I do everything right on game day I’ll be fine.’ But the day before, we’re playing basketball, we’re running up and down a basketball court. Performance is important. Some jobs you can completely bullshit the day before and you’ll be just fine when yo go to work tomorrow. It ain’t always the case with what our job is.”
In honor of Draymond losing weight, not getting suspended in the NBA Finals and not losing to the Cavs again, here's a couple of videos of my pick for 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year during his early NBA days, including a video of then teammate and current Cleveland Cavalier Richard Jefferson messing with him, as a rookie, about "longevity in the NBA."
If RJ only knew.

]]>Today's morning motivation workout mix comes from the MDE as he, according to Muscle Madness, trains for the WWE (last I heard the WWE thing was dead).
As a result of these workouts, the 45-year-old Icy Hot endorser with some of the scariest looking feet in the world said he has lost 20 pounds during his 30-day Roc Fit Transformation Challenge. More shocking than the weight loss was Shaq admitting he was 400 pounds(!) with 15% body fat a month ago. That's more surprising than (as Barkley would say) "his fat ass" being able to fit into a Buick Lacrosse (I own a Buick Lacrosse and I feel cramped even though I'm 6'0" 190).
For the old school basketball fans who remember watching a young, lean Shaq going coast-to-coast like a small forward, if watching him working out doesn't motivate you to get back to the weight of your younger self, then maybe watching a 48-year-old Terry Crews in the gym might...
And I can't mention Crews and Shaq together without mentioning the time I watched a 44-year old Shaq dunk on Crews during the 2016 Cheez-It Munch Mania Celeb Game.
Here's a timeline of Shaq's listed weight over the past 30 years.

]]>The post Motivation: Steph Curry's 3-Hour "No Days Off" Summer Workouts appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Today's morning motivation features Stephen Curry and takes us back to the summer of 2013, long before Steph was a household name, NBA champion or even an NBA All-Star. This is when the only championship on his resume was an NBA Skills one from 2011. This is back when a lot of people thought it was risky for the Warriors to give Curry an extension because he was considered injury prone with fragile ankles (11 sprains between 2010-2013 are shown in the video above).
“I’ve kind of been in an underdog situation since high school,” Curry said to Sporting News after a grueling 3-hour workout with the trainers of Accelerate Basketball in Charlotte. “That’s the one thing I can control, how hard you work in the gym in the summer because it prepares you to get through an 82-game schedule. It gets harder and harder every year. That’s a big part of my progression as a player.
“Anybody can get ready for training camp and get ready for pre-All-Star schedule, but to sustain yourself over the long haul, especially in the playoffs, that’s when you have to raise your game to a new level.
“The team knows your game inside and out. It is more physical, there’s no doubt about that. At the end of the season, you’ve already played 82 games, plus preseason, playing heavy minutes and having to raise that intensity level even though your body is fatigued from the season. That’s where this part of the summer is huge."
After this summer, Curry made his first All-Star team, All-NBA (2nd team) selection, became the franchise-leader in made threes and led his team to the playoffs.
After another "No Days Off" summer, he came back with a vengeance, winning MVP and leading his team to their first championship in 40 years.

]]>JELLY FAM! You have heard of the movement started by 2017 Ballislife All-American Isaiah Washington and his NYC crew. You have seen the signature "Jelly" move, which is much more complicated than the finger roll George Gervin made famous decades earlier.
"It's more difficult than it looks," Washington told Bleacher Report. "We make it look easy, but there are years worth of practice perfecting it. We took something fresh, one of the game's sweetest moves, and put our own Harlem swag on it. You gotta get in the air, float, kick your legs open, flick it with some English, use different angles off the glass, stuff like that. Left hand, right hand, reverses—there are a lot of variations to it."
To show you the basics, Coach Rock of I Love Basketball TV and Howard Elite Basketball came out with these tutorials.
And to show "Jelly" in action, here's a few videos of Washington.

]]>Today's morning motivation features former NBA Rookie Challenge MVP, All-Star, Finals MVP and champion Andre Iguodala. At the age of 33, he still looks as lean and fit as he did when he came into the league as high-flying poster maker for Iverson's 76ers. After watching these videos and checking out the following vertical routine, you will see why.
Also worth mentioning about Iggy is he was on the National Honor Roll in high school, won All-Conference academic honors and won State Journal Student-Athlete of the week several times during his days in Chicago, when he played on an AAU team called the Illinois Warriors.
IGGY'S VERT WORKOUT via Phil Star
He shared his vertical routine, which includes jogging for a minimum of 45 minutes thrice a week. He also skips rope 100 times thrice a week. He said jumping rope, simple as it may seem, not only gives you explosiveness and calf strength, it also builds stamina while working on overall leg strength.
Iguodala combines weight and jump training. His weight training twice a week consists of exercises like calf raises, squats, lunges, and leg presses (two sets of 10 reps per exercise). Jump training twice weekly consists of exercises like lunge jumps, calf hops, and rim jumps (two sets of 15 reps per exercise).

]]>Today's morning motivation mix comes from NBA great Dwyane Wade. His hops might not be as bouncy as they were in his early Miami days and his speed isn't what it was when he earned the nickname "Flash" but the 35-year old (still a) Bull looks as fit as he's ever been and is still a beast in the weight room. I was going to make a joke about his beautiful wife, Gabby Union, keeping him young but she's actually nine years older than him.
Lucky man! Here's a bonus video of the couple doing other types of exercises.
Lucky man! And here's some bonus clips of the future hall of famer training and showing why he didn't mind being naked for the ESPN Body magazine.
And if you are interested in training with him (and Jimmy Butler), here's a link to his upcoming basketball camp.

]]>The post Julius Randle 2017 Motivation Workout & Practice Mix appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>When I heard Magic Johnson say every member of the Lakers is available except Brandon Ingram, the first thing I thought was some teams need to start putting together a deal for Julius Randle. After Magic and his staff sees the effort and summer transformation of Randle, they might be scratching his name off any Paul George and draft night trade ideas.
The above image is a before and after of Randle getting blacker. Just kidding, it's showing the impressive body transformation of Randle after just three weeks of working with "transformation specialist" Amoila Jamil Cesar (not to be confused with Cesar the dog whisperer).
Here's a couple vids showing how the "Juggernaut with handles" earned those abs, while working out with a gold chain like a young MJ, who also wore a gold chain while competing in a dunk contest.
[twit id="867463000042512384"]
[twit id="864722828867719168"]
And if all this off the court stuff with Randle isn't impressive enough, he's been putting a lot of work into his shooting with shot coach Andrew Olson. And keep in mind, this guy just recently became a father so he's doing all this while getting a few hours of sleep each night.
[twit id="868975796659945472"]
Last season, Randle shot a career-high .488 while averaging a career-high 13.2 points per game to go with 8.6 boards and career-high 3.6 assists (double his previous year). He put up 32 against the Rockets on 13 for 17 shooting, had three triple-doubles and three other games when he was just two dimes away from one. If he's still wearing purple and gold next season and the Lakers do draft Lonzo Ball, I'm expecting Randle's assist numbers to drop but at least 15 and 10 a game and at least a couple more "don't f with me moments."

Here's a few more workout vids of Randle over the years.

]]>The post Giannis Antetokounmpo Motivational Workout & Practice Mix appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Today's morning motivation comes from Giannis Antetokounmpo aka The Greek Freak.
The Freak was drafted by the Bucks in 2013 as a raw 6'9", 190-pound project. After four months, the 18-year old Freak was an inch taller and by the end of his promising rookie season, he was 6'11"and 217 pounds.
Since his All-Rookie 2nd Team appearance, he has increased his scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocks every season and finished his fourth season with averages of 23 points, 8.8 boards, 5.4 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.6 steals a game -- good enough to land him on his first of many All-Star teams and a All-NBA 2nd Team appearance. He's also now listed at 6'11, 217 pounds.
If you aren't motivated enough, here's two great stories about the "7-foot point guard" who recently signed a $100 million extension.
Via Sports Illustrated about working out after losses.
He storms out of the Bradley Center in full uniform, from home locker room to player parking lot, and hops into the black Explorer the local Ford dealer lent him. He turns right on North 4th Street in downtown Milwaukee, steers toward the Hoan Bridge and continues six miles south to the Catholic seminary in St. Francis, where the priests pray and the Bucks train and The Freak dispenses his rage. Alone, Antetokounmpo reenacts the game he just played, every shot he clanked and every read he missed. Sometimes, he leaves by 1 a.m. Other times, he stays until three, sweating through his white jersey for a second time. “I get so mad, and if I go right home, I’m afraid I’ll never get that anger out,” Antetokounmpo says. “This is how I get the anger away.”
Via The Vertical about his childhood.
He lived through horrific poverty and family illness and the most rudimentary of basketball infrastructures in Greece.
Within the shadows of the Acropolis, out on the sidewalks of downtown Athens, Giannis sold pencils and trinkets and plastic sunglasses. For hours and hours as young teens, Giannis and his old brother, Thanasis, had to push themselves to raise money for the dinner table. On the way home, they stopped at the market and grabbed the essentials. Their father worked two jobs, and their mother had a stretch of illness.
“We would be out on the street together, selling a toy, a watch, something, and we’d raise $10,” Thanasis told me once. “And that is good, because we didn’t starve today. We’re going to go home. We’re going to have something to eat. And it is a good day.”

]]>The post Kobe Bryant 'Muse' Motivational Workout Mix + His "666 Workout" Routine appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Today's morning motivation video focuses on Kobe Bryant. Unlike most of the recent workout mixes we have been posting, this 10-minute compilation will probably motivate you more with Kobe's words and wisdom than weights and workouts in the gym. With that said, I came across an interesting article about Kobe's off-season "666 Workouts."
Via Born To Workout.
Kobe Bryant has a unique way of training during the off-season, which is known as the 666 workout. Named so because Bryant trains for 6 days a week, 6 hours a day and 6 months in a year. The 6 hours of training are divided into 2 hours of track work, 2 hours of basketball skills and 2 hours of weight lifting (which includes one hour of cardio).
Track Work
The track work includes HIIT (High-Intensity- Interval-Training) workouts like sprints, jogging and walking for 100, 200 and 400 yards.
Basketball Drills
The Basketball drills include Bryant shooting at least 700-1,000 shots per day, 20 minutes of dribbling. Bryant also performs at least 10 minutes of defensive slides followed by an intense 90 minutes of shoot-around. He shoots from five specific areas of the court executing 10 shots from each location before moving onto the next one. Before shooting from the three-point line, he usually begins by mid-range shots. He also works on turnaround shots, post-up shots, pivots jabs, footwork and layups at the end.
Weightlifting Session
Kobe Bryant’s weightlifting session is a blend of traditional weightlifting and Olympic style lifting. While the former increases muscle strength and stamina, the latter focuses on explosive movements and high verticals.
Also worth checking out is this past interview with Men's Fitness magazine?about his off-season workouts.
It's a combination of lifting weights and doing a conditioning program. Whatever your program is, the key is to push yourself to a level where you're hurting. You can't gain conditioning without going through it. You're going to have to feel some pain, you're going to have to feel like your lungs are burning, and you know, you want to spit up blood, that sort of thing.

]]>Today's morning motivation features the new NBA All-Time Leader In Playoff points, LeBron James.
Earlier this season, I had a discussion with his teammate, Richard Jefferson, on health and fitness and he raved about LeBron's work ethic in the gym and dedication to his body. He also made a strong MVP case for LeBron but because of the excitement that comes from new trending story lines and the latest "sexy stats," LeBron, who should be MVP every season, isn't going to win it. He's right. But, unlike the future winner of this season's MVP award, LeBron is still in the playoffs and about to go for another championship.
Here's a few more bonus workout videos, including an intense pre-game workout before an Eastern Conference Finals game 10 years ago.

]]>Today's "Morning Motivation" comes from the league's best rapper and maybe most unappreciated player (right, Chris Broussard?).
A lot of the footage from this motivational video was from the first episode of his video series License to Lillard. If you haven't seen any episodes from the series, I highly recommend all of them, especially the first: The Beginning.
And since the release of this 2012 video, Dame has racked up a Rookie of the Year award, two All-Star nominations, two All-NBA sports, two NBA Skills Champ awards and a lot of respect from his peers. Although, I'll argue he still doesn't get the amount of respect he deserves and I'm sure the next Sports Illustrated Top 100 players list will back that up.
So enjoy the next 15 minutes of videos, get motivated, then get your ass to the court and/or gym.
