Kyree Walker is just a freshman. The opportunity to now take his talents to the next level and facing off against the likes of Damien High School, Centennial of Vegas with Troy Brown and Rancho Christian with Isaiah Mobley showed us that Kyree is more than just highlights. The kid competes on a high level on both ends of the floor whether his team is up or down by 20. If anything, you have to respect the hustle.

Jaylen has been on a tear at the UA Holiday Classic hosted in San Diego by Torrey Pines High School. In his first 2 games he put up 35 and 33 points. In this game vs Orange Lutheran he had another outstanding performance with 34 points 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The play of, or should I say miss of, the game was when Jaylen threw the ball to himself off the backboard, in what he says "if I only had a half a step more", and just barely missed the dunk. In the even he is averaging just over 34 points per game.

Jaylen Hands Puts Up 68 Points in 2 Games at UA Holiday Classic!

Jaylen Hands put on a show in his first 2 games at the Torrey Pines UA Holiday Classic. In his team took on St Augustine with Taeshon Cherry. Hands had 35 points in a close game loss to best Taeshon's 29. In one instance, Cherry had a one handed fast break dunk. Hands got the ball on the very next possession and killed a slingshot one hand dunk at the other end and stared down Cherry almost as if to say, this is my time.

In the second game vs Calvert Hall, Hands had 33 points and helped steer his team to victory 79-63. In another instance, Hands took off from the baseline to throw down a vicious 1-hand dunk in which the defender couldn't do more than just stand still in awe as hands jumped over him.

Top Class of 2019 Guards Create Excitement in The League!

LaMelo Ball and Marsei Caston wasted no time in exciting a Compton Magic Fall League crowd. Caston, originally from Canada, was scoring nearly at will in the first half. On a fastbreak opportunity in the second half he caught Chino Hills Big Man off guard by reaching back as far as he could for the poster dunk. After the play LaMelo pulled up from Steph Curry range and silenced the crowd. Chino Hills went on to win the game without top scorer LiAngelo Ball.

On a side note, the eldest of the Ball Bros Lonzo Ball (UCLA) stopped by to watch the game in support. In the below recent interview Ball talks about the support of his family and them attending his home games around the 4:15 mark.

Simeon wins Public League Championship with Chicago's top duo Zachary Norvell + Evan Gilyard

South Side Kenwood Academy (19-4) played in the Chicago Public League's title game for the first time in school history when they faced South Side powerhouse Simeon (24-3) at Chicago State University in front of 6,000+ fans (hugely Kenwood supporters).
Winning his first varsity city title of his career 54-49, Simeon senior and leading-scorer Zachary Norvell (Gonzaga) finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. He led every aspect of Simeon's first 3 quarters of the game.
Feisty 5'10 junior point guard Evan Gilyard scored 14 of his 16 points in the 4th quarter including 9 straight at one point. Breakout versatile sophomore reserve Talen Horton-Tucker added 5 points, 7 rebounds.
Kenwood was led by unsigned seniors Zion Morgan, (15 points, 4 rebounds) and Nick Robinson (13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks).
If Simeon's 7th Public league title on Sunday wasn't impressive already, it came on the heels of beating #1 Morgan Park on Friday and #6 Evanston on Saturday.
Thanks to everyone at Chicago State University, CPS, Simeon, and Kenwood for a memorable season of Public League basketball.
Next, Kenwood and Simeon will both be trying to win the Class 4A Illinois state title.

Simeon + Morgan Park Battle to the Buzzer in City Playoffs! Charlie Moore, Ben Coupet Shine!

Ballislife started following Simeon seniors Ben Coupet and Zack Norvell as 8th graders. At Beasley Academic Center, the 2 won city titles. There was much anticipation when the 2 attended high school together at South Side powerhouse Simeon Career Academy. 4 years later, Simeon's leading scorer Zack is commited to play college ball at Gonzaga. He's considered one of the top players in Illinois' Class of 2016. 6'7 Ben Coupet is a valued starter and quiet contributor for Simeon, but has never put up big numbers until now.
Chicago's 2 top high school teams (and biggest rivals) met for the rubber match in the City semifinals. Soldout in advance, both teams won on the road during the season's earlier meetings. The winner at Quest Multisport headed to the City Title game.
It wasn't always pretty, but both teams fought til the final whistle. In the end Ben Coupet's career night (24 points, including 4-6 from 3, 7 rebounds) led #2 Simeon (22-3) to a 74-72 win over #1 Morgan Park despite 26 points, 5 assists from Memphis bound PG Charlie Moore.
As you will see in the video, the final 20 seconds were chaotic! Up 74-72 Simeon missed a FT, layup and putback but Morgan Park couldn't manage to score as time expired.
Zack Norvell added 16 points, 5 rebounds for Simeon and Western Michigan commit Jarrin Randall added 9 points on 3x3-pointers for Morgan Park. Simeon PG Evan Gilyard provided key energy in the second half.
Simeon went on to win the city title less than 48 hours later (first since 2012), but this matchup was a game to remember!
Simeon are #34 in the latest Ballislife Fab 50 national rankings and Morgan Park fall to #39.
Now both will compete in the Illinois state tournament.

The most competitive Public League High School basketball in the country can likely be found in Chicago. It just so happens the top 2 basketball programs in the state of Illinois are also in the same conference (Chicago's Red South), are located five miles down the street (Vincennes) from one another, and are also bitter rivals.
Over the last 3 years, Morgan Park has won 2 state titles (3a) and finished 3rd in 2015. They're currently the top team in Illinois and are unbeaten in-state this season (1 loss in Detroit). Simeon has cemented itself as a national power under Coach Rob Smith (6 state titles last ten seasons) producing Derrick Rose, Jabari Parker and more.
When they play (twice a year in conference or for city title), it's a battle. The gym is always sold-out with friends, family, classmates and fans and cameras are rolling.
Typically Simeon hosts 1 game and Morgan Park's "home game" gets moved to a larger neutral site as Morgan Park's antiquated gym accommodates only 250 fans. This season, after threatening a much-publicized boycott if the game were to be held elsewhere, Morgan Park hosted their home game for the first time in years in their tiny South Side gym.
Security was intense and the game was sold-out in advance. Morgan Park had defeated Simeon on the road last month.
This time #4 Simeon (17-3) came into #1 Morgan Park's (16-2) gym and left with a 60-57 upset victory.
Simeon junior point guard Evan Gilyard finished with 24 points (4 3-pointers) to lead the Wolverines.
Illinois Mr Basketball contender, Memphis-commit Charlie Moore (Morgan Park) scored 19 but needed more support from his teammates.
Simeon senior Zachary Norvell Jr (Gonzaga) scored 18 with 7 rebounds. Rarely-used Simeon reserve, 6'5 junior Madison Lowery came off the bench in the second half and scored a career high 10, giving his team a lift.

Zack Norvell, Jr. had as big a freshman season at Chicago basketball powerhouse Simeon Career Academy as anyone could imagine. Last season (as an 8th grader) Norvell led Beasley Elementary to a 8th Grade City Championship (watch Ballislife video). This season, Norvell led Simeon's Sophomore squad to an impressive undefeated season, culminating in the Chicago City Title. Once the Sophomore season ended, Norvell re-joined the Varsity squad, coming off the bench to help the Simeon Wolverines win their fourth consecutive Illinois 4A State Championship. In the Argo sectional playoff game, Norvell scored 7 points to help eliminate Dusable HS, ending Dusable's Cinderella season. What made it personal is Dusable is coached by Zach's dad, Zack Norvell, Sr.!
The 6'4 Class of 2016 Guard is already catching the attention of high-major coaches with his long-range shooting, competitive nature, court vision and scoring abilities.

In either role, young Ben Coupet Jr. has been lighting up Chicago’s South Side. Joining his 8th Grade Beasley (Chicago City Champs) teammates Zack Norvell and JJ, while following in his father Ben Sr.’s footsteps (who attended Simeon), Ben Jr. is continuing the winning tradition at Simeon Career Academy.
