]]>Led by Coach Rob Smith, the Wolverines vie for Chicago city and Illinois state titles year after year, while playing a national non-conference schedule.
Last season, the Wolverines won the Chicago city title and came up just short, finishing as runners-up in the Illinois 4A (big division) title game to Chicago Whitney Young.
This season, 6'5 senior Talen Horton Tucker is expected to lead the Simeon Wolverines basketball team alongside key transfers Xavier Pinson from Chicago St Pat's and Zion Young from Merrillville, Indiana and Wasatch Academy.
Talen is expected to be a contender for Illinois Mr. Basketball. His offers include Michigan State, Ohio State, Florida State, Xavier, Kansas, SLU, Missou, Illinois, Iowa State, Dayton, Georgetown, and Georgia Tech.
We caught one of Simeon's early open gym sessions and thought Ballislife viewers would want an early look at what might be the best public school team in Chicago (or the nation).

Zaire Wade's freshman teammates shared balanced minutes and balanced scoring while playing a very competitive schedule. Zaire and cousin Dahveon stood out among their teammates due to their guard/passing skills and athleticism.

Garland is joined on his team by nationally-ranked powerful 6'9 2019 Francis Okoro, SLU-bound guard Fred Thatch and Chaminade HS teammates Jericole Hellems and Karrington Davis among others.
In what may have been the highest-level basketball of the weekend, undefeated Brad Beal 17U met Iowa Barnstormers who feature top 50 players Joey Hauser and Joe Wieskamp and are led by top 100 (and rising) point guard AJ Green.
The son of Northern Iowa assistant Kyle Green, AJ Green, has shot up a few inches (now 6'3) and showed off his offensive skills (ball-handling, shooting) against Garland and his teammates.
In the second half, the point guards Garland and Green took over most of the scoring duties. Despite a considerable rally, Brad Beal went on to win.
Garland finished with a game-high 21 points despite coming off the bench in the first half. His team went undefeated (6-0) on the weekend.

UCLA commit Jaylen Hands scored 14 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3 rebounds. Troy Brown (Oregon) scored 12 points, 7 rebounds.
For the EAST, Mohamed Bamba scored 17points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks. Collin Sexton scored 8 points, 7 assists, 4 steals. Kevin Knox scored 15 and center Mitchell Robinson (WKU) scored 14. UK commit Quade Green had 9 points, 7 assists.

Recent Mizzou commit Michael Porter Jr, Deandre Ayton (Arizona) and point guards Trae Young (Oklahoma) and Jaylen Hands (UCLA) were among the early standouts for the WEST squad.
In our limited observation of the EAST, Trevon Duval, Kris Wilkes (UCLA), Collin Sexton (Alabama), and Mo Bamba were just some of the standouts.

]]>In front of a soldout crowd near Chicago, Simeon threw everything they had at 6'3 point guard Alonzo Verge and 6'5 Simeon junior Talen Horton-Tucker came up big again (14 points, 9 assists, 6 steals, 4 rebounds). Simeon (28-3) won 69-52 over Thornton (23-6) for it's 7th Sectional title in 8 years.
Verge finished with 20 points in his final HS game. Simeon's Kezo Brown finished with 18 points as Messiah Jones added 12 points and 8 rebounds.

]]>Simeon recently won the Chicago Public League with a balanced attack and they are favorites to win the state title.
Despite a team high 14 points from Chase Adams to go with five assists, Simeon ended the Spartans season for a second straight year 56-43.
Simeon won the battle of the boards and it was another balanced attack. Like in the city final, Messiah Jones led the scoring (15 points). Evan Gilyard, Talen Horton Tucker, Madison Lowery, and Kenny Pittman each scored 7 points.
Warren Allen added 12 points, 6 rebounds, Malik TIdwell 9 points, 6 rebounds and TeeAaron Powell 8 points for Marian Catholic.

]]>Chicago Simeon faced Red South rivals Morgan Park (19-6) for the Chicago City title (for the first time). Led by junior Kezo Brown's 26 points, the Simeon Wolverines (24-3) won their 8th Public League basketball title (2nd in a row) 68-64 at Chicago State on the city's South Side. With the win, the Wolverines return to the FAB 50 national rankings at No. 46.
After sitting out most of his sophomore season due to health issues, Kezo's performance cemented his status as one of the city's top players regardless of class.
Matching up against Chicago's highest rated prospect and fellow Mac Irvin Fire AAU teammate Ayo Dosunmu (16 points, 5 assists) for much of the contest, Kezo had his hands full.
And he got help from his Simeon teammates. Senior guard Evan Gilyard (UTEP) added 18 points including 10 in the 4th quarter. Talen Horton-Tucker scored 13 points to go with 11 rebounds. Messiah Jones added 6 points, 7 rebounds and a very timely block in the final minute.
Melo Burrell scored 15 points with 10 rebounds and Lenell Henry score 15 for Morgan Park. Following the game, Henry picked up an offer from Chicago State.

Morgan Park will face conference rival Simeon in the title game on Sunday. Simeon and Morgan Park have never played each other in the city title game before. They split the season series (1-1).
