The post Is it possible? Jonathan Clark attempts a 360 double between the legs dunk! appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Last week we discussed The History of the 720 dunk, and despite rumors of players like Vince Carter and Jason Richardson being able to do it and other pro dunkers coming close, nobody but The Air Up There of Ball Up has actually been able to pull it off...and he pulled it off a few times!
One dunk which is thought to be impossible to execute, even by the Air Up There, is the 360 double between the legs dunks - yes that means going between the legs TWICE. During this past weekend's Nike 3on3 Dunk Contest, high jumper Jonathan Clark attempted it, and when I say attempted, I don't mean he just jumped in the air and did the hand motions like he was trying it. His attempt included the 360 and going between both legs.
Before this weekend, I would have told you that this dunk was impossible even on a 9 foot rim by a dunker like Clark or Air Up There. But today, I feel like it is possible and just a matter of time until a dunker like Clark figures it out and pulls off the impossible.

]]>THE HISTORY OF THE 720
Throughout the 80s and 90s, a 360 dunk was impressive enough to get you a high 40 or a 50 in a dunk contest, even though most 360 dunks were actually closer to a 180 or 240 dunk. It was also the go-to show-off game dunk that was a step up from a reverse dunk, which has been replaced by the windmill.
Then in the late 90s, Kobe and Vince Carter started throwing down 360 dunks in games on a regular basis. So it was only a matter of time that somebody took it to another level and that player was a high school kid named Jason Richardson, who supposedly pulled off a 540 dunk at the 1999 Magic's Roundball Classic.
There's no known video proof of the future NBA dunk champion's dunk, but a year later, we thought we were finally going to see the dunk happen when Vince Carter entered the NBA dunk contest (thanks to Kenny Smith for convincing Vince to accept on television). But Vince wasn't going to do a 540, he was supposedly going to try a 720...well, according to Tony Montana/Shaq.
After Vince threw down an unseen-by-most 36o windmill, Shaq told Reggie Theus Vince told him he was going to do the impossible 720 dunk. He didn't attempt it, but he did give most audiences their first sighting of an elbow hang dunk and a between the legs off two feet.
Six years went by without any buzz about 540 and 720 sightings and then in 2006, at an And1 Game in Houston, TX, local streetballer Taurian Fontenette aka The Air Up There, shocked the world by executing a 720 dunk in a game! TJ turned into an overnight sensation and was asked to perform the dunk on morning shows, ESPN shows and even in a television commercial (above). Although the initial And1 dunk gets the most attention, Air Up There, now known to many as Mr 720, performed the dunk in another game and that would be the last accepted 720 on a regulation rim we have seen.
There have been lots of 540 dunks posted online that have been called 720 dunks since that day but none of them are as close to a 720 as Air Up There's dunks.
Then in early 2014, there was buzz about Ben McLemore trying the dunk in the 2014 NBA dunk contest. Because of the horrible constantly-changing format of the contest, he didn't advance far enough to try (and most likely miss) it. Oh well, maybe next year he will be able to show us a "720" although, I'll be really happy if he just does a 540...that's closer to a 360...or a 360 that's called a 540. You get the point.

As expected, The Bone Collector embarrassed a bunch of defenders with his ankle breaking moves but the best ankle breaking moment of the game came from Special FX - mostly known for his above the rim game - who dropped a defender with a crossover and then threw down a dunk.

Well say what you say but this video speaks for itself and should make all doubters 2nd guess their statements.

]]>Streetball guards are usually distinguished between two positions: ball handlers and entertainers. Although ball handlers take care of the rock most of the time, entertainers understand that handling the rock is just part of what they do. Everyone comes to streetball games not only to see the competition but for the entertainment, and the Ball Up squad understands that. That’s why when Ball Up’s entertainers, AO and Sik Wit It, come to play, they’re looking to put on a performance for the crowd. If you’ve ever been to a game with these two playing, you know they’re not just playing basketball. From time to time, when AO’s in the game, he'll just start clowning. He will take hold of the camera and shoot some of the action while Sik Wit It entertains by spinning the ball on his finger dancing to the music being played. They always keep the crowd interested while still performing at a high level of streetball.
We were able to ask AO a few questions about entertaining the crowd.
Ball is Life: You are considered a veteran to the streetball game. Do you think it’s tougher now to keep crowds entertained compared to when you first started since now everyone has expectations on what they’re going to see?
AO: It’s tougher because it’s been eleven years since the first streetball tour, so fans want to see the impossible now.
BIL: I see you guys always joking around and having fun. Do you think your game reflects your personality? Or is it more of an alter ego when you go out there?
AO: Yeah, who you are as a person is definitely what the fans see on the court.
BIL: How do you come up with something new to keep the crowd entertained?
AO: My game is all spontaneous so whatever I do at that moment was meant for that moment.
BIL: Do you still have the same love for the fans as you did when you first started? Do you still get the same enjoyment entertaining the fans?
AO: The fans keep me going from kids who looked up to me 10 years ago to the new generation of fans with Ball Up.
No matter how you feel about streetball, these guys have been on their grind putting the work in to keep crowds entertained throughout the last decade. The Ball Up team is doing its best to not only keep improving their game but also keeping their fan base hyped to see every game.
