]]>We gathered the film we shot of these players throughout their high school careers and turned it into a visual and verbal breakdown of what makes these players intriguing NBA prospects and what they will need to work on if they want to stick in the league.
In these film sessions, Devin Ugland discusses four expected first round picks - Anthony Edwards (Georgia), LaMelo Ball, Precious Achiuwa (Memphis) and Cole Anthony (North Carolina).
Edwards looks to be one of the most polished and safe picks in the 2020 Draft, check out the film breakdown below.
Ball is perhaps the most polarizing and highest-upside prospect in this crop of 2020 talent. His breakdown is below.
Achiuwa has intriguing defensive versatility and impressive transition finishing ability. Click below to watch his breakdown.
Finally, Anthony has deep NBA bloodlines and has competed against top competition at every level. Devin breaks Cole down below.

]]>The post Ron & Dev Predict the NBA Draft Lottery! (Picks 1-4) appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>The Golden State Warriors, who are looking to get healthy and return to their winning ways, will pick second, the Charlotte Hornets third, with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers rounding out the first five selections.
This will be one of the most unique NBA Drafts on record due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only is the draft delayed by at least four months, NBA front offices will be making picks with far less real-time evaluation because of the cancellations of many conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament last season. Another interesting aspect of this draft is NBA scouts and front office personnel will not be able to evaluate prospects in a live draft combine setting, but rather a virtual one taking place at regional sites.
In this piece, myself and Ronnie Flores do our best to predict which players the lottery teams will select based on fit and team needs. Check out our selections for the top four picks in the final part of our three-part NBA Draft Lottery predictions series.
Ronnie’s Pick: LaMelo Ball | Guard | 6-7 | 190 | Australia | PRO
Why: The Bulls moved up three spots and could they be picking up the best talent in the draft? Some feel so, as Ball is the over-sized playmaker NBA teams covet nowadays. The most polarizing player in this draft, and perhaps’ the most in many years, he’s also got the biggest risk-reward factor of any potential draft pick. The younger brother of 2017 No. 2 pick (Lonzo Ball) has a big more wiggle, craftiness, and potentially a tighter handle than his brother, while both have that incredible vision and court awareness. Some NBA brass feel it’s a big plus that he’s already been through the rigors of pro basketball, but his defensive intensity and “gimmicky” style does raise some legitimate question marks about his long-term potential. Melo has been one of the most scrutinized players in basketball, at any level, or the past five years and that should help him should be get off to a slow start in his NBA career. Ball should be a rotational player as long as he picks up the defensive schemes and the fact that Chicago doesn’t have big glaring weaknesses should help his transition. Golden State will take a long look at him at No. 2, but he’ll fall here, and that will give him a better chance to learn on the job and eventually thrive.
Devin's Pick: Obi Toppin | Forward | 6-9 | 220 | Dayton | So.
Why: When taking a closer look at the Bulls' roster, two areas of need immediately jump off the page: guards and forwards. Chicago could certainly go with LaMelo Ball here if he's still available and come away with a high risk/high reward selection and add him in to a solid backcourt alongside Zach LaVine and Coby White. Or, as I believe will happen, the Bulls will select a guy who will be a productive NBA player from day one in Obi Toppin. The 6-foot-9 forward out of Dayton is a high motor guy who plays with great energy on both ends of the floor and has proven he can score inside and out. His rim running ability in transition, along with his vertical athleticism, make him a guy who could excel as an open court finisher or a pick-and-roll lob finisher in the half-court. Toppin shot 39 percent from the college three-point line, and while his catch-and-shoot mechanics are fundamentally sound, it will be interesting to see if his perimeter shooting translates to the deeper NBA three-point stripe.
Ronnie’s Pick: Obi Toppin | Forward | 6-9 | 220 | Dayton | So.
Why: If Wiseman is the Warriors’ pick, and he should be, taking Melo Ball here would be a tempting move for the Hornets, as would his former high school teammate from Chino Hills (Calif.) Onyeka Okongwu. I just get the feeling Charlotte will play it safe, as they are one of those teams that favors more seasoned talent rather than gambling on younger players with a perceived higher ceiling. As the 2020 Naismith Award winner, Toppin was an efficient player in college who will be able to operate down low in the NBA and contribute right away. The Dayton star is a classic what-you-see-is-what-you-get type and at 22 would be the oldest top five pick in a decade. Toppin is an underrated shooter, but there are some concerns about his defensive ability and ceiling. Will those concerns cause him to drop? We don’t think so and in a draft with plenty of question marks, he’s not going to fall out of the top five.
Devin's Pick: LaMelo Ball | Guard | 6-7 | 190 | Australia | PRO
Why: As mentioned above, Ball might be the most talented prospect in this year's draft class, but there are plenty of unknowns that come with drafting a player like him. We all know the story of him leaving Chino Hills to go to Lithuania and then to SPIRE Academy and finally to Australia where, for the first time, he played in a more structured environment than he did at the high school and club level in the states. Like Ronnie said, the youngest of the three Ball brothers is the most polarizing player in the 2020 Draft and he's also the most talented of the three siblings. At 6-feet-7, Melo has the ball skills, creativity, craftiness, vision and basketball IQ to serve as a primary ball handler and playmaker. The question marks about Ball, among NBA decision-makers, stem both on and off the court. Does his freewheeling style of play translate to the NBA level? Will he be a consistent three-point shooting threat from the NBA line? Can he guard his position and properly defend in an NBA defensive scheme? In a draft that doesn't feature a whole lot of no-brainer talent, Charlotte has to go with the best available player here and it is Ball. To me, Melo would fit in nicely with the vastly-improved Devonte' Graham and veteran point guard Terry Rozier along with young, talented forwards in P.J. Washington and Miles Bridges.
Ronnie’s Pick: James Wiseman | Center | 7-1 | 235 | Memphis | Fr.
Why: The dynasty with the closing championship window are the big winners in this year’s draft. Why? For starters, its selection won’t have the added pressure of being the No. 1 pick in a weak draft (think Anthony Bennett and how that worked) and regardless, two players from among Anthony Edwards, Melo Ball and Wiseman will be available. That means the Warriors’ front office will have a quality pick/player to shop around should they decide no player from this draft will greatly assist within the time frame of that championship window (keep in mind the Warrior’s own Minnesota’s 2021 first-round pick). Wiseman combination of immense size, frame and mobility easily offsets his limited body of work to get to this point. Sure, Wiseman only played three college games, but should fit in with a team that doesn’t need him to produce gigantic numbers right away. He’ll have some pressure on him to perform at some point, but with Golden State’s shooters, he’ll eventually thrive. And if the Warriors want to package this pick as part of a deal for a veteran, he brings the most value or they’ll be choosing for another team. Either way, the Warriors have quality options.
Devin's Pick: James Wiseman | Center | 7-1 | 235 | Memphis | Fr.
Why: There are expectations that Golden State will try to trade this pick for a more seasoned veteran as it tries to bounce-back to championship form after an injury-riddled season, meaning there's a lot of different ways the Warriors could go here. For the sake of this story, let's assume the Warriors keep this pick, and I think they go with Wiseman here. The mobile 7-foot-1 center has all the makings of a modern big man and his skill-set would translate quite nicely to a Golden State roster that needs some help inside. Wiseman had a brief cup of coffee at Memphis, but showed flashes of his next-level ability in the three games he played. Wiseman averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and three blocks per game before a NCAA suspension led him to leave school to prepare for the 2020 NBA Draft. So what is it about Wiseman that could fit in well with the Warriors? The first thing that stands out for me is rim protection, and as the league becomes more athletic and more offensively gifted, there's always a place for a guy who can block, change or alter shots at the rim. The second aspect of Wiseman's game I like is his rebounding, both offensively and defensively. There's no better way to start a fast break than old-fashioned glass cleaning and second-chance opportunities on missed shots are all-important in deep playoff runs.
Ronnie’s Pick: Anthony Edwards | Guard | 6-5 | 225 | Georgia | Fr.
Why: There is no questioning Edward’s offensive talent and we’ve known for a long time (since the 2018 Pangos All-American Camp) that he had No. 1 in the draft-type talent. Since the Wolves have some quality offensive players on the perimeter, Edwards won’t be under a tremendous amount of pressure to put up big numbers right away, but he’ll be under the microscope to show offensive efficiency and be engaged defensively. If Edwards gradually improves his shooting percentages and displays an locked-in attitude on defense, we’re talking a potential All-Star player (and there is not too many of those with that potential in this draft). He has to be in a position to succeed and with a coaching staff that feels any shortcomings can be addressed in an adequate amount of time. He’s not a “project” as a No. 1 pick, but not a sure-fire star. Nobody in this draft is, but Edwards is still its best bet because of his combination of athleticism and offensive play-making ability against NBA level defenders.
Devin's Pick: Anthony Edwards | Guard | 6-5 | 225 | Georgia | Fr.
Why: I compare Edwards to Toppin in this year's draft and not because of style of play, but more because of the fact that you know what you're getting and that's a bonafide scorer. The 6-foot-5 off-guard has an impressive combination of physical strength and vertical explosiveness, both of which led to him averaging 19.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as a freshman in the SEC. Edwards will be a guy who can play off the ball alongside De'Angelo Russell, Karl Anthony-Towns and another young and talented wing in Jarrett Culver. While Edwards is a creative scorer and shot creator, it remains to be seen if his perimeter shooting ability is at the level it needs to be for him to live up to a No. 1 Draft selection. Edwards struggled from three-point range at Georgia, connecting on just 29.4 percent of his 7.7 three-point attempts per game. As we all know, shooting the deep ball has become one of the more important aspects of the game and Edwards will need to develop a more consistent deep ball to have a long and productive NBA career.

RELATED: All-Time Mr. Basketball USA Winners | 2018-19 Preseason Tracker Results | Anthony Edwards Reclassifies To 2019 Class | "In The Paint" Podcast Breaks Down Top Candidates
Just as was the case in the preseason, 22 elite players received recognition as legitimate national player of the year candidates in the updated 2018-19 Mr. Basketball USA Tracker powered by www.ebooksnet.com. The results, however, show plenty of difference in terms of whom may win the prestigious honor and reflect just how wide open the race is. As many as seven players have a legitimate chance to join a Who's Who list in basketball as the nation's best high school basketball player for several reasons.
First, there is not one elite senior who is having monster season that is head and shoulders above the field such as NBA All-Star Ben Simmons did in 2015 for Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.). There is varying opinions on whom is the most talented player in the national 2019 class and that is clearly reflected in the 10-man tracker panel's voting results. Six players received first place votes with one, 7-foot junior Evan Mobley of FAB 50 No. 10 Rancho Christian (Temecula, Calif.), receiving three of them.
It also means the overall point totals for the top vote-getters are much lower overall. Over the years, the top vote-getter usually appeared on nine or all 10 ballots and hovered in the high 80s or low 90s (out of a possible 100 points). This time, however, the two players in first place received a total of 64 points and appeared on eight ballots. As a sign of the varying opinions of the elite players this season, 7-foot James Wiseman of Memphis East (Tenn.) received two first-place votes, but only appeared on one other ballot (seventh place) to tally 24 points. That combination of first place votes and total points has never been seen in the 12-year history of the Mr. Basketball USA Tracker.
"It's a tough vote since there aren't no brainer guys like (R.J.) Barrett, (Zion) Williamson, (DeAndre) Ayton, and (Marvin) Bagley that separate from the rest," said Van Coleman, COO of Global Sports Television, a long-time McDonalds All-American voter and tracker panelist. "This will need at least two more votes to get it right. Cole Anthony is trending downward and Evan Mobley upward and I'm not sure that before this is done, the juniors may be 1-2."
Coleman's comments regarding Anthony reflect the thinking of dominant stats and winning at a high level are required to earn an honor such as this (Listen to "In The Paint" Podcast about factors that make top candidates). Anthony, arguably the nation's top point guard for Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson Va.), tied Mobley for first place in the voting with 64 points, down from his preseason positioning of 81 points. In the preseason, Anthony was the only candidate to appear on all ten ballots, but this time around he's on seven ballots. Anthony is averaging 18.7 ppg, 9.6 rpg and 10.1 apg, but the Warriors are not having the season quite expected of them and it will be interesting to see where Anthony falls in the next go around after FAB 50 No. 16 Oak Hill was shocked 80-72 by unranked Teays Valley Christian (Scott Depot, W. Va.) after the ballots were sent out and compiled.
The juniors Coleman was referring to that could surpass all the 2019 players with strong closings are Mobley, who is averaging 19.2 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, and 5.5 bpg, and junior point guard Sharife Cooper, who has McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) sitting at No. 2 FAB 50 rankings with averages of 28 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 9.2 apg, and 4 spg while shooting at a 50-40-90 clip for an unbeaten club. Cooper's production on a team exceeding expectations is reflected in the voting, as he went from appearing on one ballot (seventh place) in the preseason to garnering 36 points and appearing on five ballots, including three third place votes.
Will Cooper and Mobley, one of three players to appear on eight ballots along with Anthony Edwards of Holy Spirit Prep (Atlanta, Ga.) and Isaiah Stewart of FAB 50 No. 1 La Lumiere (La Porte, Ind.), continue to gain traction as the season concludes? Or will a player from the 2019 class stand up and take charge of the race? (Listen to our podcast on this topic)
It will be interesting to follow since only a few of the game's immortals (Jerry Lucas, Lew Alcindor, LeBron James) have been Mr. Baketball USA honorees as juniors.

About Mr. Basketball USA Tracker Panel
www.ebooksnet.com's panel of 10 experts, which includes six McDonald’s All-American selection committee members, casts its vote for the top national player of the year candidates. Each panelist lists his top seven candidates regardless of class. The votes are then tabulated on a 10-point scoring system with a first-place vote equaling 10 points, a second-place vote earning nine points and down to four points for a seventh-place vote. The number in parenthesis refers to the numbers of ballots on which a player appeared and previous rankings refers to position in last season's final tracker.

]]>Edwards' presence in the 2019 class is already having a reverberating impact on the various national player rankings. 247 Sports has already moved Edwards above Memphis-commit James Wiseman of Memphis East for the top spot in the class, while Rivals.com will place Edwards at No. 3.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound guard is one of the most electric scorers in high school basketball regardless of class and made the move up to the senior class with plenty of time to be considered for the 2019 McDonald's All-American Game in his hometown of Atlanta, as well the other major high school basketball awards, including the Naismith Player of the Year.

Edwards' move will also have a major impact on the recruiting front. He has interest from just about every blue blood school in the country, but had yet to set up any official visit plans. Edwards told 247 Sports that he hasn't set any official visit dates, but knows "for sure" that he will be seeing Florida State and Michigan State. Other schools that could be in line for a visit are Georgia, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Holy Spirt Prep, which was ranked No. 35 in the preseason Ballislife Fab 50, lost their first two games of the season, including a 75-72 decision to No. 16 Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern led by Brandon Boston and Sharife Cooper, despite Edwards' 31-point, 10-rebound, five assist effort.
Edwards currently sits at No. 4 in the Mr. Basketball USA Tracker behind top-vote getter Cole Anthony, Rancho Christian (Calif.) junior Evan Mobley and University (Fl.) senior Vernon Carey. All those four Mr. Basketball USA candidates are undecided for college.

Norwalk, Calif. -- This year's Pangos All-American Camp was a coming out party for many of the nation's talented underclassmen. There were talented seniors-to-be among the 115 campers who descended on Cerritos College for the three-day instructional and showcase camp with a new twist, but the juniors-to-be (2020 prospects) stole the show and, collectively, created the most buzz at the event.
For the first time in the event's history, NBA scouts were cleared to evaluate and having a plethora of talented underclassmen was a positive for them.
"It was good to evaluate new players and not just the same top 30 players that we've seen many times," said one NBA scout who attended and who shall remain anonymous.
Joining representatives from 22 NBA franchises was a throng of national media outlets and when it was all said and done, the underclass player who put his imprint on every camp game he played, along with being arguably the most consistent performer throughout, is our choice for best event performer. His name is Anthony Edwards, and the 6-foot-5 2020 wing forward from Holy Spirit Prep in Atlanta put his stamp on the nation's top independent showcase camp with his scoring ability, power around the rim and explosive first step in the half court game. The muscular Edwards tied with 6-foot-2 2019 point guard Tyson Etienne of Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) for the camp's scoring title (17.3 ppg over four games) and was one of the most efficient players in terms of getting his points within the flow of the game and not forcing too many shots or overhanding (the latter which is problematic in a majority of grassroots camp settings). Edwards shot 56.3 percent from the field on 48 attempts.
With his explosiveness and strength, Edwards' dominance reminded us of Mustapha Heron's MOP worthy performance at the 2015 Pangos All-American Camp. Although Edwards wasn't named Most Outstanding Player as Heron (Auburn/St. John's) was, he was the one player who turned the most heads among those who came into camp without a huge national rep and was universally respected by his peers for his dominant performance. Edwards had been offered by Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State and you can bet the "Blue Bloods" will be offering before long.
While Edwards has a long way before he's seriously on the NBA Draft radar, that is not the case for 6-foot-11 Evan Mobley of Rancho Christian (Temecula, Calif.). The 2020 prospect was likely the most intriguing player for NBA scouts because of his incredible size, length, coordination and upside. Mobley has long been considered one of the best prospects in his class nationally, but he's finally coming into his own as a player because of the increased strength in his lower body, which has led to better balance, timing and agility, not to mention increased confidence. It has also helped Mobley that growing pains he endured during his freshman season have decreased, which has led to him becoming arguably the most intriguing prospect in the 2020 national class.
"It's becoming very easy to maintain my stamina because my body is getting stronger," Mobley said. "I used to pace myself, but I can now do what I want to do out on the court. It makes the game easier to see. On fast breaks, I can see the rotations better."
Mobley had two of the most eye-popping plays of the camp, where he threw down a follow-up dunk and another where he finished an "AND1" follow up during the Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game at the Camp's conclusion. Now that he's healthy and getting his legs under him, the rim truly does seem like a nerf hoop on Mobley's finishes.
The next aspect of the game for Mobley to work on is consistency on the glass and using that quick leaping ability to rebound out of his area. Mobley averaged 5.75 rpg to rank fifth overall in camp. The rebounding leader at 10 per game was Charles Bassey, the 2019 post prospect from Aspire Academy (Louisville, Ky.). Bassey was eighth in scoring (14 ppg) and was easily one of the most productive players throughout the three-day event. Bassey has bulked up considerably and perhaps even lost some of the perimeter ability that made him such an intriguing prospect when he was named www.ebooksnet.com National Freshman of the Year in 2015-16.
After his freshman campaign, the hype surrounding Bassey was incredible and it would be hard for him, or any other prospect, to live up to such lofty expectations. Still, the combination of size, power, production and motor made Bassey one of the best players at this event and a top three prospect in the national 2019 class. It remains to be seen if the other top big men in the 2019 class (Vernon Carey, James Wiseman) can clearly wrestle the mantle of No. 1 prospect from him based on on-court production.
Pangos Camp founder and director Dinos Trigonis named Bassey Most Outstanding Player. With the selection, Bassey becomes the first-ever two-time event MOP. It's quite an accomplishment considering the standouts who've attended the camp multiple times over the years.
Pangos Stat Stuffers
Jaden Springer, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Rocky River (Mint Hill, N.C.), was third in the camp in scoring at 17 ppg and just edged Mobley for highest field goal percentage at 74.4 percent to 74.2 percent. Springer is another one of the 2020 prospects that helped his national profile over the three-day event.
Another 2020 prospect who played well at the camp, 6-foot-4 shooting guard Josh Christopher from Mayfair (Lakewood, Calif.), led the camp in assists at 7 per game. A couple of true lead guards from the 2019 class, 6-foot-3 Gianni Hunt of Bishop Montgomery (Torrance, Calif.) and 6-foot Pierre Crockwell from Garfield (Seattle, Wash.), were tied for second in assists at 6.5 per game. Hunt has successfully bounced back from an injury-plagued high school junior season and Crockwell had a 13-assist game and was pointed out by some of his peers as a guard they had trouble staying in front of.
Coming in second in the rebounding department behind Bassey was 6-foot-10 2019 power forward Drew Timme of Pearce (Richardson, Texas) at 8.75 per game. Mobley's older brother Isaiah Mobley, a 6-foot-9 2019 power forward already committed to USC, was third at 8 rebounds per.
There were 14 outings where an individual scored 20 plus points in a single game, led by the 27-point effort of 5-foot-11 point guard Sharife Cooper from McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.). Shooting guard Jarod Lucas, a 6-foot-3 2019 prospect out of Los Altos (Hacienda Heights, Calif.), got red hot from the outside and had a 25-point game. Cade Cunningham, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard of out Bowie (Arlington, Texas), had a 24-point game.
Besides Edwards, Evan Mobley, Springer, Christopher, and Cunningham, other 2020 prospects that did nothing by help their reputations and national standing at this camp include 6-foot-7 small forward Scottie Barnes of University School (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), 6-foot-11 center N'Faly Dante from Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Air, Kan.), 6-foot-10 power forward Xavier Foster from Oskaloosa Community (Oskaloosa, Iowa) and 6-foot-6 small forward Brandon Boston from Norcross (Norcross, Ga.).
Cream of the Crop Top 30 Highlights
Isaiah Mobley led Team Harden (White) to a 108-102 victory over Team Westbrook (White) in the Cream of the Crop Top 30 all-star game, which is usually reserved for the camp's best performers as selected by veteran media in attendance and rubber-stamped by Trigonis. The USC commit led five teammates in double figures with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. He also had some key plays and baskets during the line shift in which the White team opened up a double-digit lead.
After trailing 62-46 at halftime, the Blue team made a spirited comeback led by the all-around gamesmanship of Barnes and enthusiastic bench support. Barnes only scored two points (on a vicious crossover dribble drive finish), but played hellacious defense and dished out a game-high seven assists, grabbed four rebounds and had two steals. Barnes is an intense and versatile defender with an ideal NBA-type body to defend the three-point line and the ultra-athletic wings in today's game. The Blue Team got within a couple of possessions late, but couldn't get over the hump.
Tre Mann, a 6-foot-3 2019 point guard out of The Villages School (The Villages, FL), led the Blue Team with 16 points, including 4-of-6 3-pointers. Jake Kyman, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Santa Margarita (Rancho SM, Calif.) and a UCLA commit, nailed 3-of-3 3-pointers from the White Team, including a couple late to fend off the Blue Team rally.
Mobley and Barnes were name team MVPs in the top all-star game.
