1. John Wall, Word of God (Raleigh, N. C.) 6-3 PG, 2009:
There can only be one at the top, and this North Carolina point guard edges Zion Williamson as the greatest overall mixtape legend in the Ballislife era. Why is that? Because there hasn't been a NBA level guard with Wall's combination of size, speed, athleticism, skill, and finishing ability since Ballislife and other companies started regularly filming high school games of the nation's best players in the mid 2000's. One of the reasons Wall edges Williamson is he is a guard, and fans just love when guards can get to the rim. It's similar to why a big guy has trouble winning dunk contests over talented smaller players. Basketball is a big man's game, but guards rule the mixtape industry because video-centric fans love the players with the ball in their hands. Second, it's a bit of timing, as Wall was before Williamson and his best mixtape (which was produced by Hoopmixtape) has stood the test of time as arguably the best single mix ever. In fact, if help give the mixtape industry credibility and made the genre that much more popular. The Wall mixtape will be hard to knock from its pedestal because of his explosive ability in the open court and rim-attacking. Another reason fans loved Wall is because his skill wasn't a gimmick or something fans thought wouldn't translate. It was easy to see his game translated to the next levels as he lived up to his billing as the top overall prospect in the 2009 class. Wall played one season at Kentucky, and his outgoing personality and exposure in Bluegrass Country made his mixtape even that much more popular. Wall went on to become the No. 1 pick of the 2010 NBA Draft and is now a five-time NBA All-Star. Even with all his NBA success, there are still plenty of fans who know him best for his mixtape prowesses and his role in taking a fledgling industry to the next level.

Zion Williamson

6'6"   -   PF   -   2018

2. Zion Williamson, Spartanburg Country Day (Spartanburg, S.C.) 6-7 SF, 2018:
Words really do no justice to how viral Zion was as a high school prospect. His explosiveness, the power of his dunks, and the viciousness in which he played, combined with the height of the social media and mixtape eras, made him one of the most watched, shared and popular prep players of all time. Whether it was a gliding transition slam, a poster dunk of an unlucky defender or a volleyball spike of a blocked shot, Williamson was pretty much a nightly-feature on SportsCenter and many other sports shows on national television. Those same shows debated whether Zion's game would translate to the college level at Duke. It did. Then many of those same people wondered whether Williamson could continue his dominance on the NBA level because of a lack of a consistent three-point shot. While his rookie season was abbreviated due to injury and then stopped because of the Coronavirus pandemic, Williamson showed in 19 games that he has NBA star potential. No matter how Zion's career pans out, he will always be one of the most polarizing high school players ever.

Aquille Carr

5'6"   -   PG   -   2013

3. Aquille Carr, Princeton Day Academy (Baltimore, Md.) 5-7 PG 2013:
This Charm City native cracks the top three because everybody loves the little guy with mad skills on the court. Carr just took it to another level at Patterson High in East Baltimore, as he quickly built a reputation as a scorer with show-stopping offensive skill. As a freshman he averaged 25.5 ppg and upped that to 31.3 ppg, but the numbers weren't what made him the most talked-about player in high school basketball for a period of nearly three years. It was his strength, leaping ability, quickness and playground flair that made every one of his games feel like an event. In fact, he became so popular he earned the nickname "The Crime Stopper" for his penchant of selling out gyms in his hometown whenever he played. Carr's street ball style made him popular, his street cred made him a legend and his skill to size ratio made him a beloved figure for those who enjoy watching highlights and mixtapes. It's a combination rolled into one dynamic package that we had never seen before and haven't seen since.

Marcus LoVett Jr.

6'0"   -   PG   -   2015

4. Marcus LoVett Jr., Morgan Park (Chicago, Ill.) 5-11 PG, 2015:
This wiry lefty was just one of those guards you just couldn't take your eyes off. Lovett was out of the AND1 Mixtape mode, a player who could embarrass and leave defenders clueless with his arsenal of moves, change of direction and explosiveness. Lovett's first step and ball-handling made him a "must-watch" player right out of the gate. The Ft. Wayne, Ind., product delivered right away, averaging 31.7 ppg as a freshman at Providence (Burbank, Calif.) and doing it in spectacular fashion. Lovett was good for a few spectacular moves a game and his boldness and confidence are other reasons why he lands in the top five. Lovett continued to shine as he moved on to San Gabriel Academy (Calif.) and at Morgan Park in Chicago as a senior. Against strong competition, LoVett averaged 25 ppg, eight rpg, and seven apg as a senior while leading his team to the state semifinals. Lovett went on to play at St. John's and turned pro after one and a half seasons of college ball. He'll always be best known, however, for the ridiculous mixtapes he created throughout his high school career.

Aaron Gordon

6'7"   -   SF   -   2013

5. Aaron Gordon, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) 6-7 SF, 2013:
AG might of been robbed in a couple of NBA slam dunk contests, but he gets his just due here as a mixtape legend. Gordon had all the ingredients that fans loved in a small forward: Power dunks, finesse dunks, agility, explosiveness and a flair that few high school forwards have ever displayed. Gordon wasn't a big man, but he was still alot bigger and stronger than his competition but also more skilled. Gordon also had the innate ability to do contest style dunks in-game, whether it be off the backboard over a startled defender or something usually seen from a much smaller player without the power game. Gordon was also a winner on both the grassroots and high school circuit, twice earning California Mr. Basketball State Player of the Year from Cal-Hi Sports. Gordon finished his four-year prep career with two state titles and an appearance in the first ever Open Division state title game. In those three games, he averaged 24.3 points and 20.3 rebounds.

With the Under Armour Elite 24 game just a few days away, I've been watching a lot of footage from the event's past 11 years and discussing the best and most memorable performances. Of all the great recent performances, one of my all-time favorites came in 2011, when former Ballislife All-American and YouTube sensation Aquille "The Crime Stopper" Carr put up 21 points, 10 assists, 7 boards and a handful of "Oh $#it moments" reminiscent of what Brandon Jennings and Lance Stephenson did at Rucker Park in previous Elite 24 games. Then I was asked, "Where is Aquille now?" My answer was, "I don't know but he's probably breaking somebody's ankles as we speak."

Speak of the devil! On Wednesday night, hours after my answer, spectators at Dyckman park got to see why I said that, and why Carr was considered one of the most exciting high school ballers of all-time, and why he still has a large fan cult-like following, when he put up a "light 30" with a handful of "Oh $#it moments" during his Dyckman debut.

If his throwback performance wasn't enough to get excited about, the day also featured a triple OT game containing a couple "oh $#it" buzzer-beaters and a 46 point performance from class of 2017 point guard and 2016 Elite 24 player Isaiah Washington.  Scroll down below to check out the best highlights and pics - shout out to our friend  Cassy Athena - from last night's show and hopefully, one day, we will get to see the Aquille Carr show on a bigger stage.

I think I know Aquille Carr?

For years I watched the jaw-dropping mixtapes of the young kid nicknamed The Crime Stopper. I read and did double takes while looking at his boxscores. I heard the stories about how easy it was for him to abuse the competition he was facing in high school. And when he arrived at our High School All-American game, he came across as a nice guy with an infectious smile.

I think I know Aquille Carr?

But I also saw the mugshot and heard about the crime he was accused of. I read and heard stories about his attitude that worried teammates and organizations and wondered if there was a Mr. Hyde side behind that smile I knew.

I don't know, but I do know Aquille has had a lot of opportunities. Opportunities that started before he was in the 10th grade when an Italian team reportedly offered him $750k to play pro ball overseas. But for one reason or another -- some wise, some not so wise -- Carr hasn't been able to fully take advantage of these opportunities and his basketball and life journey hasn't gone the way many of us thought it would. Thankfully for Aquille, he knows this, understands and fully accepts the mistakes he's made and how the cards have been dealt and is ready to show that the next hand is going to be different.

After watching this short film about Carr, I can't say I know him any better, but I can say I've always been a believer in his talents and will continue to be a supporter of him -- the man, the player, the father -- as he continues his journey.

During the 4th annual Ballislife All-American game last weekend, we had a lot of conversations about our past events and players and the one name that kept coming up was Aquille Carr aka The Crimestopper. ?The lighting fast 5'6 Aquille played in our 2013 game right before taking off to play overseas on a NBA legends tour and then making a stop in the D-League with the Deleware ?87ers.

In 10 games with the 87ers, Carr averaged 10.7 points and 1.9 assists in 13.8 minutes but the numbers are a bit misleading as he didn't play much in most of the games but would occasionally explode in the games he did get minutes. ?There was a 22 point game where he played 19 minutes off the bench and another game where he scored 10 points in 3 minutes and 20 points in 10.

The one consistent thing about his game in limited minutes or not was the excitement. ?So much excitement that he actually has a season mix - pretty impressive considering he played less than 200 minutes during the whole season.

Next stop for the YouTube phenom is the $500k Basketball Tournament going down in Philly on June 6th and then hopefully the NBA.

Aquille Carr has shown flashes of brilliance in every city, state and country he's touched a basketball in, but like high school and his time in China, the end came too soon for the Ballislife All-American when he was released by the Deleware 87ers on Friday.

Here's the D-League's team announcement.

Carr (5-6, 148) was selected by the Delaware 87ers with the ninth pick of the third round in the 2013 NBA Development League Draft.

Carr was one of three NBA Draft-eligible players playing this season in the NBA Development League and one of two players to play this season in the NBADL without having played in college. He appeared in 10 games with the 87ers and averaged 10.7 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.2 steals in 13.8 minutes.

The 87ers will play their next home game at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, DE tonight, Friday, January 3 at 7 p.m. against the Erie Bayhawks. Home and away games can be viewed via YouTube on the NBADL channel. All home games can be heard on 91.3 WVUD.

It would seem odd that a D-League team would cut a player averaging 11 points in 14 minutes of PT which included a couple of offensive explosions but it sounds like this could be a case of off the court explosions and that's unfortunate to hear because Carr is one of the most exciting and exceptional athletes I've ever seen and I'm hoping I wont be writing about him 10-15 years down the road like I recently wrote about high school phenoms DaJaun Wagner and Ronnie Fields. But from the sounds of his tweets, Carr is feeling positive and has options and i'm looking forward to seeing them.

The last thing I said after Aquille Carr's breakout game where he scored 22 points in 19 minutes on Wednesday night was "Unfortunately for the Sevens, they lost their 5th out of 7 games so far this season but after this performance they might have found an answer in the form of The Answer 2.0."  Well, unfortunately for the Sevens they had a rematch with the 6-0 Stampede last night and lost again (by 27) but they did receive a great encore performance from "The Answer 2.0."

Carr scored 10 points in his first 3.5 minutes and had 20 points at half-time, including 18 of the team's 22,  in just 10 minutes of action.  Things got much worse for Carr and the Sevens in the third quarter that saw the team down by as much as 37 and Carr ejected with 20 seconds left.  He left the game with an impressive 22 points on 8 of 13 shooting with 2 3-pointers in just 14 minutes of PT.

Coach Rod Baker had some compliments for Carr.

“He’s very, very good with the basketball in his hands. He needs to get better at involving others. He knows how to score. But he’s got to figure out better who he’s playing against because these groups are now bigger. He can’t get away with the stuff he got away with.”

But was equally disappointed with Carr's ejection.

“It’s not about him,” Baker said. “It’s about us ... This is part of the maturation process for him – physically and emotionally and professionally.’’

It looks like the marketing people at the Sevens and D-League are finally listening to us and realizing they have a player that people want to see.  The D-League YouTube channel released a mix of Carr's 19 minute 22 point performance from Wednesday and most of the tweets going out about the league are all about the player that we were so honored to have play in our Ballislife All-American game this year.

High school standout and Ballislife All-American Aquille Carr had an impressive D-League debut with the Sevens last month scoring 15 points in 26 minutes but with limited minutes over his next four games, his production was minimal.  Then in a rare win for the Deleware team last week, the 5'6 lighting quick guard scored 13 points in just 13  minutes on 5 for 7 shooting.  His hot touch carried over to the next game, last night against the Stampede, where Carr came off the bench and lit up the defense with 14 points in his first 10 minutes and finished the game with 22 in just 19 minutes of PT.  Carr also added 3 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 3-pointers to his breakout game.

Unfortunately for the Sevens, they lost their 5th out of 7 games so far this season but after this performance they might have found an answer in the form of The Answer 2.0.

The Delaware 87ers might have lost their season opener to the Canton Charge but they might have found a way for people to want to watch D-League games.  High school phenom and 2013 Ballislife All-American Aquille Carr scored 15 points, hit 3 3-pointers and handed out 2 assists in his D-League debut.  His shot was off (4-13) and he was a turnover machine (6) but the highlight machine also produced one nice highlight.

The 5'6 "Crimestopper" was the 43rd pick by the 87ers  in this month's NBA D-League Draft.  Carr spent the summer playing overseas with players like T-Mac and Jason Williams with the NBA Legends tour and then declined a contract from the Chinese team Qingadao Double Star so he could stay closer to his 1 year old daughter.

Expect a lot more D-League highlights on Ballislife over the next few months.

Cole made 8-11 3-pointers, 13-16 free throws and finished with 10 assists. His previous high scoring total was 49 points.
According to the Chicago Sun Times and IHSA.org, it was the first time since 1991 (Chicago Harvard's Walter Simmons, 75 points) that at least 63 points have been recorded.

Earlier this season, wersus nationally-ranked Whitney Young HS, Cole was the sole focus of the Dolphins defense. He got off to a slow start, scoring just two points in the first quarter. That’s all Power House scored in the quarter too.
Then Cole put up seven in the second quarter, nine in the third and six in the fourth to finish with 24 points and four assists.

An academic qualifier, Chicago State has offered and Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Western Michigan and Wyoming have all shown interest but expect the list to grow!
