Jeremy Russotti founded 1% club in 2003 when he was a then head coach at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, Ca. Within his team he developed a close bond and relationship with two of his star players - Angelo Tsagarakis (Oregon State) and Josh Akognon (Washington State/CSUF). Because of their endless hours of training, and the belief that only a small population trained at their level, they jokingly labeled themselves with the 1% club moniker.

Most impressive was Josh Akognon, who went from never playing organized basketball until his freshman year of high school, to the 4th leading scorer in the state of California (30.1ppg) by the end of his senior year. Josh's accolades include being a member of the Nigerian National Championship team; being named as FIBA world championship top 20 up and coming players, elected most "underrated player in the PAC-10" by sports illustrated, voted PAC-10 player of the week for his 25 point second have scoring outburst vs National Champion runner up UCLA.

Top 10 8th grader: Elite 6’5 Ben Coupet, Jr.'s 8th grade season mix (Chicago Beasley)

6’5 Ben Coupet, Jr. led Chicago’s Beasley Academic Center (public grammar school) 8th Grade team to a 43-2 overall record. Ben and his Beasley teammates avenged their 2 mid-season losses to Morgan Park by defeating them to win the Chicago City Championship.
A long, small forward, Ben Coupet averaged 15 points per game for Chicago’s deepest grammar school team.
Following in fellow Beasley alum Derrick Rose’s footsteps, Ben will be attending Simeon Career Academy (Chicago, IL) like his 6’11 dad did.
Ben also lead the Chicago All-Star team to victory over the Illinois team at Sonny Parker’s annual 8th Grade All Star games held at Simeon, including in-game back to back slam dunks (highlights included).
