]]>When we first talked about Blake Griffin throwing down these dunk contest worthy dunks at a USAB practice in 2012, we thought the real star of the video was the "he didn't even stretch doe" kid with the lines in his eyebrows. Looking back at the video today, we think the real star of the video is the 2015 No. 2 NBA draft pick D'Angelo Russell saying, "he didn't even stretch doe" near his former Lakers teammate Julius Randle, fellow rookie standout Devin Booker, slam dunk champ Zach LaVine and a few other current NBA players.
On July 26th of 2018, the NBA re-released the six-year-old video with spotlights on all of the players that ended up playing pro ball and it's pretty mind-blowing.

]]>Inactive D'Angelo Russell found a way to get into the Nets boxscore during Monday's loss to the Knicks....by clapping. The clapping after Tyler Zeller's blocking foul on Enes Kanter annoyed referee Bryan Forte so much, Forte hit Russell with a tech. As ridiculous as this tech was, it's not Russell's most ridiculous.
Back in 2015, a rookie Russell was given a tech for an overzealous celebration after watching a 37-year-old Kobe Bryant posterize a 21-year-old Clint Capela.
“I like took off and ran across the baseline, tried to get back before the ref saw me and, uh, I caught Denzel’s attention and the ref caught me and I don’t know what we did,” Russell said after the game.
Kobe joked that it was “the best tech that D’Angelo will ever get."
When Russell was told about an upcoming fine, he said, “How much is that? How much am I going to be fined?”
Then he ran to Kobe and said, “Hey man, you’ve got to pay my tech on that one.”
In true GOAT fashion, Kobe rejected the request.
“Meh, you ran the baseline on your own free will.”
If you want to see a well-deserved tech on Russell, you can check out the following video of him exchanging some words with Damian Lillard. But what really made this exchange so amusing was Lillard's "poke the bear" post game comments.
"I'm from Oakland. I ain't with that extra stuff. Nobody can do just what they want to me. And I got called for a foul to start the third quarter for reaching in, but when I reached in, the only reason there was contact was because his elbow came up again.
"After he blocked my shot, I was walking to my spot, and I felt like he went out of his way to get that elbow in there again. And I told him, 'That ain't gonna fly.' And I wasn't interested in anything else that was said after that. We ain't going to do it on the court so we'll be in the back and whatever happens, happens. It was nothing. He poked the bear, and you see what happened after the game."

Brooklyn Nets' D'Angelo Russell was in the house to catch a glimpse of electrifying 2018 point guard Jelly Fam JQ Jahvon Quinerly in action.
In one half of play, Hudson Catholic stars still put on a show. In a 72-58 win, Quinerly finished with 8 points, 5 assists, 2 steals. 5-star Louis King (Oregon) finished with 17 points. He sealed the game with a windmill dunk-and-1!
Luther Muhammad (Ohio State) added 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists for Hudson Catholic.
A 26-15 fourth quarter put the game away for Hudson Catholic.
Abdaliah Saleh (17 points) and Zuriel Turcios (17 points) led host North Bergen.

]]>This is what happened when a Kings' fan brought his homemade sign saying, "D'Angelo leaked Hillary's email" to Thursday's game between the Lakers and Kings. According to the fan, Metta World Peace thought it was funny (no surprise) and Matt Barnes gave him a thumbs up (really no surprise) but one person who didn't find the sign amusing was D'Angelo Russell (again, no surprise).
Russell not only didn't laugh at the Clinton & Swaggy P reference, he told the fan to "suck his dick" and then told the Kings security the "derogatory" sign was "antagonizing him."
Here's the fan's full story, which was posted to his Facebook page.
So last night I get a chance to attend the Kings vs. Lakers game at the beautiful new Golden 1 Center. Thanks to a close friend our seats were right next to the Lakers bench. So of course we get in a little old fashion heckling on D'angelo Russell because frankly he deserves it. So I make this sign "D'angelo leaked Hillary's emails" and start showing it around. Get a laugh from Metta Worldpeace, a thumbs up from Matt Barnes. But then I get D'angelo walking out of the tunnel with the sign where he turns directly at me, looks in my face and yells "suck my d*ck" (volume up on video). Classic style. Then to make it even better, D'angelo went on to show his true snitch colors by telling on me to Kings security, saying I was antagonizing him and that my sign was "derogatory". Never change D'angelo #sacramentoproud #kingsnation #stopsnitchin
He was also brave enough to respond to a bunch of hostile sounding critics of his sign and hecklers in general with this Instagram reply.
Damn might need a safe space for all these upset comments. I made that sign the other night and here's the facts behind the story: 1) The sign was hilarious, Kings fan or lakers fan. Unfortunately Donald trump is our president now, I figured we could all use a little political humor in a time like this. 2) I posted this video to fb to show my friends (mostly sac Kings fans) with no intent of it blowing up and reaching the angry laker fans on Instagram who live in their moms basement, played a few minutes on their middle school hoops team and now want to talk about the integrity of basketball. I guess if posting a video to my personal fb for laughs makes me "playing the victim" or "snitching" then yep call me whatever u need to defend the fact D'angelo gets rattled by a 25 year old drunk kid with a small sign. I think you can clearly tell by my laugh at his reaction, I never once felt victimized or was looking for sympathy. Quite the opposite actually, was stoked I could get in his head and get a reaction. If you're a lakers fan and catch boogie cousins saying SMD to u on camera, you're probably sharing it with your friends right? PS I had no idea the whole interaction was on video, was actually sent that from another fan sitting behind me. Hope that clears it up, and look for me at the next Kings lakers game with a new sign. (Don't worry I'll include a "trigger warning" as to not offend anyone else)
As for the game, the Lakers came back from 19 to pull off a 10 point victory, which ended with some trash-talking between Julius Randle and Boogie Cousins and one happy looking D'Angelo Russell.

]]>One of my favorite songs to rap and sing a long to this past summer was "Dang!" by Mac Miller and Anderson .Paak. It's been a few weeks since saying the title but on Sunday, Miller had me screaming "Dang!" when he hit the floor trying to guard streetball legend Bone Collector in the Power 106 celeb game.
Yeah, yeah it was probably a double-dribble, carry and possibly another violation in a normal basketball game but in a fun setting like this, BC's move is just called nasty. So nasty it faked out the camera-man (What's up Billy!) in the video above and had every player from Chris Brown to Tank to The Professor celebrating and/or clowning Mac for being shook out of the Nikes...wait, Under Armours on his feet (fans of "K.I.D.S" will get it)? The move was so nasty, coach D'Angelo Russell had to tell BC to hit the locker room early because the sponsors can't afford any more possibly injuries.
Speaking of D'Angelo, the young Laker was wearing a pretty cool shirt honoring a former Laker great and teammate of his.

Unlike D'Angelo, Myles Turner made an (unwise) effort to play D and was rewarded with a facial by LaVine.

I'm kidding and as trendy as it is to joke about Russell, the reviews on him, during the summer league and USA camp from teammates and the coaching staff have been nothing but glowing positive ones. On a recent episode of Shaq's Big Podcast, Lakers coach Luke Walton also complimented Russell when asked about the future leaders on the Lakers. So don't be surprised to see D'Angelo have a big year.
Same goes for LaVine. He's been working hard all summer with trainers like Drew Hanlen and even hitting the weights with his scary looking Dad, former NFL player Paul "I'll beat yo a$$" LaVine. So besides seeing LaVine pull off a 3-Peat in the NBA dunk contest, I'm expecting to see a few posters like the one he made with Turner since he's going to be able to take more body contact next season.

The reaction by all the witnesses in the arena was priceless. The crowd went nuts. His kids were shocked. Nick Young looked like his infamous ??? meme. Former teammate and current teammate of Clint, Dwight Howard, laughed as he had flashback of the time Kobe welcomed him into the league by posterizing him. But the best reaction came from D'Angelo Russell who got so excited he left the bench and ran on the sideline. The overzelaous celebration earned the rookie a tech.
