]]>The guys are joined by BIL co-owner, and man behind the camera, Arek Kissoyan who put the list together with input from other BIL media members across the country.
Was John Wall the surefire No. 1 mixtape of all time? Who was the biggest snub? Was LaMelo Ball too low? Would Arek change any selections if he could run it back? Were any players upset about their ranking or missing the list all together?
Ronnie and Devin also discuss Makur Maker's commitment to Howard, a Historically Black College and University, and what impact that could have on other top-echelon prospects who are considering HBCU's during their recruitment.
The guys also dive into Patrick Mahomes inking the richest deal in NFL history after signing a 10-year, $450-million contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. Will KC get a full return on its investment? Tune in to ITP 72 to hear what Ron and Dev think.

]]>The post Top 30 Mixtape Players of BIL Era: No's 21-25 appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Video is at the heart of what we do as a company. Even though we've branched out into many other business ventures, we still get excited as ever and look forward to putting out mixtapes. Though the definition of a mixtape has changed a bit over time because of the impact of social media, the 30 special talents who made the cut as the greatest mixtape players of all time have stood the test of time.
The criteria is the best combination of that one sick mixtape, longevity, combination of multiple good mixes, and large viewing numbers across all platforms. It's simply not just the 30 players with the most views.
After checking out part No. 2 below, don't forget to sound off with your thoughts on our various social media platforms!
21. DeMar DeRozan, Compton (Compton, Calif.) 6-7 SF, 2008:
When Ballislife President Matt Rodriguez headed to the Hub City in late 2006 to film this rising junior, some of the Tarbabes' faithful, and even coach Tony Thomas, wondered why he would stand on the baseline and film. Eventually, Thomas (and the players) got comfortable with being filmed and looked forward to watching the highlights, even if it wasn't easy to head to the school library or nearly impossible on their phones. Eventually, the world got to see what made Ballislife follow DeRozan in the first place, as his mixtape was prominently featured in the "The Project, Vol. 1" which along with "Hoopmixtape.com, Vol. 1" ushered in the modern-era of mixtape highlights. It was easy to see why DeRozan was such a BIL trailblazer: zero-gravity dunks and major league offensive game as an All-American wing who was destined for the NBA. He led the Tarbabes to back-to-back Moore League titles and averaged 30.6 ppg and 8.9 rpg before moving onto USC and developing into a NBA all-star.
22. Gabe York, Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) 6-3 SG 2012:
York pulled off one of the most defining moments in the history of mixtapes when he dunked on an unsuspecting defender and screamed "Ballislife" into the baseline cameras. That play went viral, but it always seemed as if York would do something that would wow audiences or make the rounds during the early days of social media. Fans loved York because he was a smallish guard who could rise up down in the land of the giants at any time from any angle, whether it be in the open court or a half-court setting. York had that natural lean when he dunked that makes fans shake their head and he was also a fearless scorer who had a wicked crossover in his arsenal. York participated at the 2011 Boost Mobile Elite 24 and averaged 24.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2. 7 apg, and 2.3 spg as a senior on his way to becoming OLu's all-time scoring leader.
23. Thon Maker, Orangeville Prep (Orangeville, Ontario) 7-0 PF 2016:
Big men usually go under appreciated by the mixtape community, but Maker was one of those high school standouts that had the element of surprise and the ball-handling skill of a player six inches shorter. He burst onto the scene after escaping Civil War-torn South Sudan and emerging at Carlisle School (Martinsville, Va.) after a stay in Australia. He was named Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2014 and was considered one of the nation's top recruits for 2016. He actually was considered a 2015 prospect for a short time and even played in the 2015 Ballislife All-American Game, scoring 17 points and grabbing six rebounds. It's what he did later in that summer at the Las Vegas Fab 48 (after earning MOP honors at the 2015 NBPA Top 100 Camp) that turned him into a household name and mixtape legend. Going up against Bam Adebayo, Maker hit him with a wicked crossover that would have made Tim Hardaway proud and canned the jump shot. Moves like that kept fans wanting more, as Maker played hard and showed enough offensive skill to keep fans on the edge of their seat in anticipation of the next great move and NBA scouts on their cellphones. Skilled big men were the rage when Maker hit the scene and his package of skills was enough for the Milwaukee Bucks to draft him at No. 10 in 2016.
24. Lonzo Ball, Chino Hills (Chino Hills, Calif.) 6-6 PG 2016:
Zo's senior year at Chino Hills was one of the more memorable single season high school efforts we've seen. The 6-foot-6 point guard averaged 23.9 ppg, 11.3 rpg , 11.7 apg, 5.1 spg, and 2.0 bpg, leading the Huskies to a 35-0 record, section and state Open Division titles, as a public school playing a national schedule. Ball's basketball IQ, passing ability and overall feel for the game, combined with Chino Hills' breakneck style of play, had fans packing gyms across the country, lining up hours before tip-off to try and get a glimpse of the show. First-time viewers were often left wide-eyes and speechless when Zo would throw his football style full-court passes which hit a teammate in stride for an easy bucket. Lonzo finished his high school career with 2,522 points, 1,204 rebounds, 1,214 assists (state No. 1 all-time) and 592 steals (state No. 2 all-time), including 408 assists and 178 steals in his final high school season. Ball's official BIL mixtape garnered more than 1.6 million views.
25. Trevon Duval, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) 6-2 PG 2017:
Explosive is how to describe the player rated as the nation’s top point guard recruit by ESPN, Rivals and the Hoop Scoop in 2017. Duval made his mark in summer grassroots events with his penchant for big plays and power dunks with a flair for the dramatic. He also made it look so easy at times, that the anticipation of what Duval would do at the higher levels of the game was quite high. Duval led WE-R1 to the Under Armour Association title and earlier helped the New Jersey Playaz win the 2014 Nike EYBL title. He wasn't too shabby during his senior season of high school, either, averaging 16.2 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 7.0 apg for a 26-2 team that finished No. 8 in the FAB 50.

]]>In Episode No. 52 of our In The Paint Show," co-hosts Ronnie Flores and Devin Ugland break down the Ballislife journey of the company's co-owner Arek Kissoyan, from creating and sharing videos on "mixmakers.net" to spearheading BIL's role as the industry leader in basketball highlight videos and mixtapes.
Kissoyan breaks down his obsession with Kobe Bryant mixes in mid-2000's to joining forces with eventual Ballislife President Matt Rodriguez in 2006 while he still lived in San Ramon, Calif., while his eventual business partner was in Southern California filming a talented high school junior by the name of DeMar DeRozan. Kissoyan discusses how he got started with BIL and how the fledging company decided to start its All-American Game in 2011, and how difficult a process that was, and how BIL got its first big break with the NBA lockout later that summer.
Kissoyan also talks about the support he received to continue the Ballislife All-American Game after that first year, and strategically developing the company into one that could eventually turn a profit and hire employees by focusing on building a content creation team, while Rodriguez focused on biz-dev.
Ballislife's co-owner and its website's publisher also goes in on his favorite players to film over the years and the biggest changes he's seen within the mixtape industry over the years. Kissoyan also gives his take on the recent social media rift between traditional media outlets that focus on game results and new media outlets that highlight and follow top players that their large audience base want to see, regardless of the game's outcome.

]]>The post "In The Paint" Podcast on The Evolution of The Mixtape! appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>In episode No. 38 of our ?In The Paint Show,"? co-hosts?Devin Ugland and Ronnie Flores?go hard on the evolution of the mixtape with special guests Matt Rodriguez, Ballislife co-founder, and DeMar DeRozan, the four-time NBA All-Star from Compton (Calif.) High School who was the?first player he personally followed and made a season-long mix for. DeRozan's first mixtape came at the end of his junior season in 2006-07 and was the basis for the Ballislife's first widely distributed mixtape, Ballislife: The Project, Volume 1.
Rodriguez recalls how he initially made a mixtape of Derrick Rose and it spawned his interest in filming prominent players in Southern California, with DeRozan being the focal point of his early attention because of his high-flying antics. DeRozan recalls his initial reaction to someone filming at his high school (hint: he didn't know what to think!) and his reaction to seeing himself for the first time on a mixtape.
Rodriguez also breaks down how his enthusiasm for filming high school players turned into a full-time business and where he sees the entire industry going. DeRozan also sheds light on the growth of the industry and offers some advice for young players who might find themselves on a mixtape.
Rodriguez, DeRozan and Ugland all mention how the And1 Mixtape, Vol. 1, inspired them in various ways and Flores breaks down the "The Skip Tape" and its origins. Flores also talks about how high school highlight videos pre-dating And1 inspired him to get involved in high school journalism, scouting and events! This is one of our most fun and unique topics, so make sure to listen in!

]]>The post DeMarvin's Room: If Drake's 'Marvin's Room' Was Written By DeMar DeRozan appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>On Saturday, DeMar DeRozan posted a thank you message to the city of Toronto on his Instagram account. It was his first post since he deleted all of his messages on Wednesday, the day the Toronto Raptors traded him to the Spurs for Kawhi Leonard and Drake posted his thank you letter to the four-time NBA All-Star.
To my brother, I want to say 10 million thank you's on behalf of YOUR city. You are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had. Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history. I am grateful to have witnessed your combination of skill, persistence, and loyalty from the same seats every night. Thank you for being an incredible captain and an even better friend.
Also on Saturday, a member of the NBA Reddit community (Lou Williams) rewrote the lyrics of Drake's 'Marvin's Room' from the point of view of DeRozan and perfectly titled it 'DeMarvin's Room.' For some reason, the Reddit post has been deleted but thanks to The Score's Chris Walder, we have a screen shot.

Of all the tweets made about DeMar and the trade over the past few days, the most popular one is shockingly one of mine!
The "DeMar was traded because his handshake sucked" tweet with footage from the 2017 NBA Awards with DeMar, Drake and Will Ferrell has over 59K retweets and 127K likes in four days. That's more than double the numbers of the WojBomb about the trade (17K & 31K) and the Raptors' thank you message to DeMar (7K & 20K) combined.

]]>The post PJ Tucker Rips Lance Stephenson After Scuffle Over Disrespectful Layup appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Lance Stephenson compared his return to the Indiana Pacers to Michael Jordan’s return to the Bulls. On Tuesday, Lance reminded the Pacers why he just might be the Michael Jordan of SMH and Shaqtin’ moments by ending an 18-point victory over the Raptors, who blew a 19-point first half lead, with a layup that almost caused a mini-brawl.
“I was caught in the moment.” Said Stephenson, who put up 12 points, 3 assists, 3 threes, 2 assists in his first home game with the Pacers. “I just want to say sorry to them. I didn’t mean no harm. The crowd was chanting me on and I just wanted to do it for the fans.”
He might not have intended any harm with his "for the fans" bucket but DeMar DeRozan and P.J. Tucker definitely wanted to cause some harm to him and definitely sounded like they aren’t going to accept an apology.
"Tasteless," Tucker said after the game. "Classless. There's nowhere in the league for that.
"Nobody care about his reputation. I could care less. I don’t even know who he is. He’s happy he just got back in the league."
Ouch!
"It's just being a professional." Said a less angry sounding DeMar DeRozan. "I don't care who you are or how you feel or what's going on. It's just the right way of playing basketball."
When asked what he said to Lance after the layup, DeRozan paused and smiled. A reporter responded by asking if he could give a cleaned up version of what was said. he replied, "I got fined already for the tech."
Lance’s teammate, Paul George, who scored 18 of his game-high 35 in the third quarter, admitted Lance shouldn't have made the lay-up but had some high-praise for the man called Born Ready.
"Lance knows better," he said. "That's like a cardinal rule to not lay the ball up when you up. But he did it; it's the reason why Lance is Lance. We appreciate him, man. Everything he does for this organization. He comes out here and he works his butt off."

]]>Back in 2007, the high school duo of DeMar DeRozan and Romeo Miller aka Lil Romeo were known as "The Transformers" to some and "Cali's Kings of the backcourt" to others. They were also the faces of Romeo's father's short-lived footwear brand called P.Miller, which was short for Percy Miller bka Master P.
Besides being the man behind the sneakers and No Limit Records, P was also a former sport agent and in 2007 he dusted off his Jerry?Maguire hat and reportedly made an offer to USC that Coach Tim Floyd couldn't refuse.
"Percy Miller said, 'DeMar?and Romeo are ready to make their decision, and would you like to have them both?on scholarship?' ... I said 'absolutely.'" Said Floyd to the Wall Street Journal.
Percy only logged 19 minutes during his two years at USC ?but found success at just about everything he else he decided to do from music, modeling, dancing on Dancing With the Stars to acting (recently seen on LeBron's show 'Survivor's Remorse').
As for DeMar, he turned out pretty good in basketball.

]]>Saying basketball is popular in the Philippines is like saying hamburgers are popular in the US. It's a huge understatement and the huge crowd in Manilla were beyond excited when they thought they were buying (up to $500) tickets to watch an All-Star basketball game with Blake Griffin, James Harden, Paul George, Damian Lillard and a bunch of other NBA stars. Then in the past few days they got more excited as players like Brandon Jennings and DeMar DeRozan arrived early to do promo gigs. Then a bomb dropped in the form of bad news from the NBA. The PLDT Home's 'Last Home Stand' All-Star game was cancelled because the organizers didn't get permission from the league.
So what the fans ended up getting was a "live practice with drills" highlighted by a couple nice dunks by DeMar DeRozan and Terrence Ross. As nice as DeRozan's dunk over Kyle Lowry was, it didn't stop some fans from booing the event and leaving early.

Demar has been a big supporter and rep for ballislife since his high school days back at Compton High. For some of you who don't know, Demar was actually one of the first players to have a mix on ballislife. In high school he was unstoppable and ranked one of the top players in the nation. With his 6-6 height and 40 inch vertical he dominated his competition and put on a show every game. Demar has now been in the NBA for 4 years and I have a feeling this might be his break out year in the League.Lets take a look back and check out his high school greatness.

Overall: DeMar got drafted by the Toronto Raptors with the #10 pick in the 2009 NBA draft. He's still a fan favorite in Toronto where he averaged 17 points per game for the 2nd season in a row.

]]>Our camp skills director since Day 1 has been current ESPN analyst Dave Miller (former long-time NCAA and NBA assistant) and he was right while speaking to the first group campers in June 2003 he remarked that they were "making history". That inaugural group (which included future NBA draft picks (Arron Afflalo, Dorell Wright, Jared Dudley, Robert Swift, Gabe Pruitt and Kyle Lowry) would prove to be the catalysts of a decade of excellence.
The top media/scouts in the nation have always cleared their calendars for the first weekend after Memorial Day every year to make the West Coast journey to Long Beach and this year is no different. National scouts (as well as McDonald's All-American voters) set to return again to Pangos Camp include Dave Telep & Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Evan Daniels & Josh Gershon (Scout.com), Eric Bossi (Rivals.com), Van Coleman (Hot100Hoops.com), Clark Francis (Hoop Scoop), Brick Oettinger & Rob Harrington (PrepStars.com), Frank Burlison (BurlisonOnBasketball.com), Ronnie Flores (ESPNHS.com) and Chris Lawlor (XOFan.com). NBADraft.com and DraftExpress.com have attended the camp on a regular basis and virtually all video sites like www.ebooksnet.com?have had a large presence at the camp the past several years.
Pac-12 referees Bruce Hicks and Frank Harvey will again run their excellent Hicks/Harvey Officials Camp in conjunction with the event.
This year's Top 25 Cream of the Crop Game will be televised on KDOC-Channel 56 (Los Angeles CA) and its sister stations in major markets across the nation.
This year anticipation is building as to which players will cement their national reputations like Shabazz Muhammad and Andre Drummond did last year and who will be the unknown "sleeper" player that emerges and grabs the national spotlight as Anthony Randolph (LSU/NBA) did a few years back. The 100-120 player camp roster is shaping up nicely and will be released the week prior to the camp.
