Last week, Phil Jackson was asked about "trying to get through to JR Smith" and the Zen Master replied by bringing up one of his former students.

"I don’t know if that’s possible or not. He might be one of those guys that’s a little bit like Dennis Rodman that has an outlier kind of side to him. But I’m gonna get to know him as we go along, and we’ll find a way to either make him a very useful player on our organization, or whatever."

Yesterday at the Knicks training camp, which is being held at West Point, Smith was asked about the Jackson quote and he felt it was an honor to be put in the same sentence as the Hall of Famer.

“Last time I checked Dennis Rodman’s got what three, four rings?” Smith said Tuesday about the Worm, who actually won five NBA titles with the Pistons and Jackson’s Bulls during his career. “I'm not offended by that. It’s an honor. He’s a Hall of Famer. And to be put in the same words as a Hall of Famer is something special. So I’m not offended at all.”

I wouldn't be offended at all either.

Rodman is mainly remembered for just being a rebounder/defender on the court and for dressing in drag and having meltdowns off the court but Rodman could have been a legit scorer and double double machine if he and the coaches wanted him to play that role.

YEP! He also had an amusing thing to say about the security.

“I was like, hey man, I come in peace, I don’t want no problems over here,” he said. “Dude had his big AK-47. Yeah, OK, if you are good with me, I am good with you.”

Smith is good with me in my books. I know he's a favorite of many to pick on but he's a favorite of mine and I think the league should be happy to have personalities like him and Rodman.

I'm not trying to take away much from Rodman's career high but it didn't hurt that those awful Nuggets gave up a league worst 130 points a game and even let the Suns score 173 against them...in regulation.  Yep, 173 in 4 quarters which included 107 in the first half. The trio of Run TMC also scored 99 points against them that season and an over-the-hill Bernard King in his 2nd to last season dropped 52 points on that 1991 Denver team.

Rodman came back to reality (sort of) after that night and followed up that game with back to back 5 point games, but I still think if he wanted to score and wasn't playing alongside a lot of the best scorers from the 80s, he could have easily of averaged 15+ points a game.

Just check out some of his exceptional games he had before he was changing his hair color, getting tats and wearing wedding dresses.

Earlier this year when The Legends of Basketball made a stop in Korea to play an exhibition game and sing happy birthday to Kim Jong-Un, Rodman gave us a classic CNN meltdown interview.

The travelling team made up ex NBA players (Sprewell, Payton, Baker) and known streetballers (8th Wonder, Silk, Guy Dupuy) are on the road again and made a stop in Argentina this past weekend and as expected, Rodman didn't disappoint.

Seeing Rodman in drag isn't that big of a deal since he's been doing it since the 90s but seeing him play a game looking like a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race is a big deal.

As for the actual game, if ?you take away Rodman's sideshow act, there's a great high flying act in the game by the name of Guy Dupuy (pictured below w/ Rodman after the game). ?If you visit Ballislife often then you have probably seen plenty of articles and videos about him but he's one of the greatest dunkers in the world and the most exciting player on the Legends of Basketball team.
