]]>The post NBA Players Who Probably Could Have Played In The NFL appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Back in high school, the two-time All-Ohio selection?was a highly recruited football star?who supposedly considered playing for the University of Miami, Michigan and Ohio State before making the decision to take his talents to the NBA. The Cavs, Heat and Nike couldn't have been happier.
(check out The Rock at the 18-second mark)
Charlie Ward wasn't just a good football player before he put on sneakers and a Knicks jersey in 1994, he was a quarterback for an NCAA championship-winning FSU squad and a Heisman Trophy Award winner.
While we are on FSU players. ?I had the pleasure of playing in a pick-up game with a red-shirt freshman Randy Moss after his high school days of catching oops from Jason Williams and before he was catching touchdown passes in the NFL.
Like FSU, Bethel high?school wasn’t sure if they had a future NFL quarterback or future NBA point guard in Allen Iverson. As the star QB and defensive back, he led the football team to a state championship his junior year and accumulated 21 touchdowns (14 passing), 2,204 yards of offense and 13 interceptions.
Just three months after winning a football state championship, he would lead Bethel to a state basketball championship.
Nate was a star football player in high school and also played football at the University of Washington. Over the past few years, he’s also dropped hints here and there about trying out for the NFL. And back in 2011,?Nate and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll exchanged some flirty tweets?to each other about the possibility of Nate trying out for the Seattle team.
Armstrong was a high school football player and college walk-on at Fayetteville, who?twice kicked a school-record 48-yard field goal. ?He seemed like a long-shot to make the NFL but the undrafted Orlando Magic favorite (most known for doing a layup in a dunk contest) was a long-shot to make the NBA too and he lasted 13 years in the NBA.
During the last lockout, when most players were thinking about going overseas, Smith, who did play overseas, joked that he was going to go to college and play football at the University of Miami. Besides being a star wide receiver on his high school football team, Earl?also had one of the greatest high school yearbook photos ever.
Barnes, an All-American football player in high school, actually received multiple tryouts invites from NFL teams?but decided to go the NBA route. You can catch him playing football in his annual Celebs vs Cancer Football games in the summer.
Big Baby played defensive end, defensive tackle and tailback at University Laboratory High in Baton Rouge but chose to play basketball at LSU rather than football. I'm grateful for this decision because if he would have gone the football route then we would have never had this great moment with Nate Robinson.
The casual basketball fan probably doesn't know one of the greatest coaches of all-time was also a pretty decent basketball player in the NBA. Most die-hard NBA fanatics probably doesn't know Pat Riley was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. It was the 11th round but the Kentucky wide-receiver can still say he was drafted by an NBA and NFL team.
Without even knowing he played football in high school, all you have to do is glance at the 4 x NBA Defensive Player Of The Year to assume Ben Wallace could have been a star in the NFL. What's shocking is Wallace turned down a scholarship to play football at Auburn to play basketball at a community college! ?Well, it paid off for the NBA champ in the long run.
The Washington Redskins fan didn't play football in High School or College but he's a football fanatic that loves a good game of flag football and with his size and skill, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm joking, I just wanted to share this KD vid.
The story of the GOAT getting cut from the Varsity high school basketball team is legendary (the truth is he was just a 5'10" sophomore and was named to the JV team) but what many don't know is he was also on the baseball, track and football team at Laney High.
He did end up playing a little pro baseball when he was "retired (suspended?)" in the mid-90s and I'm pretty sure if he would have dedicated himself to football instead of trying to be the next David Thompson, he would have ended up in the NFL.

]]>The post The Drew League vs Seattle Pro-Am Game is Finally Happening! appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>Forget Drake vs Meek. Forget Mayeather vs Pac. The battle I want to see is between the two most exciting and popular pro-am leagues this summer: The Drew League and the Seattle Pro-Am.
On Sunday, the Drew League wrapped up their season as James Harden and the LAUNFD team defeated the dynamic duo of Nick Young and DeMar DeRozan for the Drew League championship trophy. Meanwhile in Seattle, Jamal Crawford, Zach LaVine, Nate Robinson, Isaiah Thomas and other pros were putting on a show for basketball sick fans at the Seattle Pro-Am All-Star game.
After the games - as footage of Zach LaVine dunking at the proam went viral and pics of everybody from Kevin Durant to Iggy Azalea to Khloe Kardashian at the Drew made the rounds on Twitter - people started calling for a Battle of the Pro-Ams between the two leagues. Then the players got involved. Isaiah Thomas repping Seattle said "let's get it." Dorrell Wright said he was wit it. Baron Davis - director of the Drew League documentary - responded with a "set it up!!"
Then the Seattle Pro-Am issued an official challenge to the Drew with the dates of August 21, 28 and 29. The Drew League responded by saying the Seattle Pro-Am wasn't "serious" and they have been trying to do this for a couple of years. Then the discussion went silent - at least publicly. I thought game over before the game even started or maybe the Drew crew was just too busy celebrating the premier of 'Straight Outta Compton.' But then late Wednesday night Jamal Crawford tweeted this message.
*BREAKING* U asked for it, and U shall receive it...@SeattleProAm vs @DrewLeague #whorunsthewest is going down!!!! AUG 28th #SPU!! Let's go!
— Jamal Crawford (@JCrossover) August 13, 2015
Both league confirmed the event and date shortly after so it looks like the event is finally going down. You can read a timeline of all the messages between the players and league below but first let's take a look at a few possible rosters for each team. Video highlights will follow the messages.

]]>"I'm on a mission." said Derrick Rose.?"I feel great, man. I don't have any aches. My body, knock on wood, I feel good, man. For real. I'm really taking care of my body. I really feel like a pro."
Day 3 of USA Basketball Training Camp aka Day 3 of The Return of Derrick Rose went down yesterday at the Mendenhall Center on UNLV campus. It was a day full of highlights including competitive scrimmages, one-on-one battles between Kevin Durant, his ex-teammate James Harden and Paul George and of course action from Derrick Rose.
"He looks better,"?Paul George?said of Rose. "He looks like he's coming off the MVP year. He's really been aggressive. He's been flying across the court. We've seen him last year in the regular season; it still looked like he was holding back a little bit. It doesn't look like that here."

]]>If you haven't heard enough comparisons between LeBron and Kevin Durant over the past month, here's a new one, but atleast it has some fresh data, stats and facts.
ESPN"s Sports Science crew took at the two superstars and the results of their number crunching is pretty interesting. How about Durant having the wingspan of Roy Hibbert and a release time of half a second on his jumper. How about LeBron being able to reach 20mph on the court, the same speed as Chris Paul, with the ability to throw 40mph passes which is quicker than the average NFL quarterback.
If only science in school was this interesting.

]]>John Wall knows where the best action is. On Saturday night he was at #StadiumSaturdays showing off his best waterfall technique and the next day he was in attendance to watch Kevin Durant return to the Goodman League to take on his Watts Inter-City Basketball League teammate Michael Beasley and #2 pick of the 2013 NBA Draft Victor Oladipo for the Goodman Roundball Classic.
Oladipo had some nice plays against the #2 pick of the 2007 NBA Draft but Durant was typical Summer is Serious Durant and came out on top and with the best highlights.
Josh Selby continued his impressive summer play playing alongside KD.

Durant was typical KD Summer Is Serious KD with crossovers, dunks and deep three pointers and Kent Bazemore was still in Hot Summer mode as he did his best KD impersonation that was worthy of a Kent Bazemore celebration.

]]>2012 Hypothetical Olympic Team barring injuries: Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love, Tyson Chandler, Deron Williams, and Chris Bosh.
The Dream Team Documentary commemorating its 20th anniversary will be shown today on NBATV. With it coming out, it got me thinking about this year’s team and what could have been. I know the easy comparison to do would have been the 2008 Redeem Team vs. the Original Dream Team, but I think if everyone was injury free for the 2012 Olympics, this year’s team is much better than the Redeem Team. Basically, you remove Carlos Boozer, Jason Kidd, Tayshaun Prince, and Michael Redd, and you add Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, and Tyson Chandler. There’s no way you can say that is not an upgrade, but back to my original argument. This year’s 2012 Olympic Team could have been a team for the ages and could have been a great matchup against the original Dream Team.
[jwplayer config="Click N Play" mediaid="15164"]
I know I’ll get a lot of hate, but I truly believe this year’s 2012 Olympic Team (barring injuries) could have given the Dream Team a run for their money. Yeah, I know the Dream Team is known as the greatest team ever assembled and won by an average margin of 40-plus points. And yeah, they not only had the best player ever (MJ who was in his respective prime), but also two Top 10 players ever (Larry Bird and Magic Johnson), and ten of their 12 players made the NBA’s “50 Greatest Players in NBA History” in 1996.
But, Larry Bird and Magic were both way past their primes with Magic coming out of his retirement and Larry’s back almost ready to give out. You can’t take into consideration the average margin of victory at 40-plus points as a strong point because the competition was so much weaker back then, and the other teams were more in awe than anything when playing them. Also, supposedly, there is a blemish on the Dream Team’s undefeated record with a loss to the US Select Team (even though the Dream Team beat them the next scrimmage) which featured college superstars at the time such as Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, and Chris Webber. However, Coach K, who was an assistant at the time, said Chuck Daly barely used MJ and basically fixed the game to prove a point to the Dream Team that they could lose. But still.. I think the Dream Team should have been able to beat the college team without MJ.
Anyways, let’s compare the matchups at each position.
Point Guards
Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Deron Williams vs. Magic Johnson, John Stockton
Magic Johnson was still Magic Johnson, but he was on the backside of his career, and John Stockton was his consistent self. But, could Magic Johnson and John Stockton guard Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, and Deron Williams who are in their primes (or in Derrick Rose’s case, still has potential to improve)? It would be a tough guard for both teams with Magic's size/ability to see the floor and John Stockton's craftiness versus Chris Paul's IQ, Derrick Rose's athleticism, and Deron Williams' combination of strength and speed.
Shooting Guards
Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade vs. Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler
Michael Jordan is the best player to ever play the game, and he was in his athletic prime. There’s no question he would win the matchup between an older Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade, but you know Kobe and Dwyane wouldn’t back down and if anything fight harder to prove they belong. Clyde, who doesn’t get much love from younger fans, had a great NBA career and at the time of the 92 Olympics was averaging 25 points, 7 boards, and 7 assists for the TrailBlazers. I would take MJ over Kobe and Wade, but I'd take them over Clyde still.
Small Forwards
LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony vs. Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Chris Mullin
Between LeBron, KD, and Melo, there’s a lot of offensive firepower coming from the small forward position. They would all drop buckets easily on Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Chris Mullin. Scottie Pippen was the defensive stopper for the team and would have had a handful guarding any of those three guys.
Power Forwards/ Centers
Dwight Howard, Tyson Chandler, Chris Bosh, Kevin Love vs. Karl Malone, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Christian Laettner
The bigs for the 2012 Olympic Team would be the weakest link. Dwight and Tyson provide strong defense and rebounding but not much offense while Chris Bosh and K Love are able to spread the floor and knock down open 3’s. Karl Malone, David Robinson, and Patrick Ewing were perennial all-stars and provided solid defense and strong offense. The game today is way different than the 90’s when physical basketball ruled. Even though the Dream Team bigs would have brought force to the paint, the 2012 bigs would have spread the floor and created mismatches outside.
Overall, I think the 2012 Hypothetical Team and the 1992 Dream Team would have been a great game. Imagine these matchups: LeBron vs. Magic? Two 6’8 facilitators that see the game unlike any other. MJ vs. Kobe? The two most competitive players ever guarding each other! KD vs. Scottie Pippen? The top scorer of today versus the best defender of the 90’s. Dwight vs. D Rob? Two of the most freakishly built centers in the game. Although this is all hypothetical and will never happen (unless we invent a time machine and were able to turn injuries off like 2k), I think it would be a closer game than most would think.
What you think? Dream Team vs Hypothetical 2012 Olympic Team?
