In 2013, the Milwaukee Bucks used their 15th pick in the NBA Draft on Giannis Antetokounmpo, a raw 6'9" kid with a 7'3" wingspan, weighing just 190 pounds with his NBA draft suit on and a pocket full of change.

After four months, the 18-year-old with the nickname "The Greek Freak" grew over an inch and was projected to end up as a 7 footer.

He didn't put up big numbers during his mediocre rookie season but he was putting on the pounds and still growing. During a 2014 interview with The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Bucks GM John Hammond said Giannis was now 6'11" and 217 pounds!

By the time he did the NBA dunk contest in early 2015, he was filling out and becoming a nightly highlight on Sportscenter with his long arms and legs which allowed him to cover the length of the court in three dribbles.

(The day after this contest was a fun one for me. I got to help Giannis prepare his brother, Thanasis, for the D-League dunk contest)

In the summer of 2015, the NBA posted this pic of a noticeably bigger and freakier looking Giannis. Besides weights, he started incorporating boxing into his workout routine.

In 2016, weighing at 222, he put up career-high numbers in a breakout season, which included his first 30-point game and triple-double -- making him the youngest (21) in franchise history with one.

In 2017, he made his first All-Star and All-NBA team, won the NBA's Most Improved Player award and was given a challenge by Kobe Bryant: Win the MVP award.

Giannis responded by repeating All-NBA honors, becoming the first Buck to be named a starter in two straight All-Star games and finished 6th in MVP voting...while weighing around 230!

As evident in this 2018 summer workout photo with brothers Alex, Thanasis and Kostas (also in the NBA now), Giannis wasn't done getting bigger and freakier and I feel sorry for any man who pisses off his mom.

And this is how a 242 POUND Giannis looked (1:40 mark in the following video) when he showed up for Bucks Marketing Day 2018!

Yes, you read that correctly. The Bucks' official training camp roster has Giannis' weight at 242, which is 52 pounds more than he was when they drafted him.

And after two months into his sixth season, he's putting up career-best numbers in points (27), rebounds (13), assists and is the favorite to win MVP.

GIANNIS NBA2K EVOLUTION

I can't think of a player who has improved a 2K rating as much as Giannis.

He made his debut in NBA2K14 with a rating of 60!

Jumped to 74 in 2K15

Broke the 80 mark in 2K16.

90 in 2K17.

Went into the 2019 season with a 91 overall...and appeared on the cover!

As of December 6th, 2018, the birthday boy is at 95.

Today's morning motivation comes from Giannis Antetokounmpo aka The Greek Freak.

The Freak was drafted by the Bucks in 2013 as a raw 6'9", 190-pound project. After four months, the 18-year old Freak was an inch taller and by the end of his promising rookie season, he was 6'11"and 217 pounds.

Since his All-Rookie 2nd Team appearance, he has increased his scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocks every season and finished his fourth season with averages of 23 points, 8.8 boards, 5.4 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.6 steals a game -- good enough to land him on his first of many All-Star teams and a All-NBA 2nd Team appearance. He's also now listed at 6'11, 217 pounds.

If you aren't motivated enough, here's two great stories about the "7-foot point guard" who recently signed a $100 million extension.

He storms out of the Bradley Center in full uniform, from home locker room to player parking lot, and hops into the black Explorer the local Ford dealer lent him. He turns right on North 4th Street in downtown Milwaukee, steers toward the Hoan Bridge and continues six miles south to the Catholic seminary in St. Francis, where the priests pray and the Bucks train and The Freak dispenses his rage. Alone, Antetokounmpo reenacts the game he just played, every shot he clanked and every read he missed. Sometimes, he leaves by 1 a.m. Other times, he stays until three, sweating through his white jersey for a second time. “I get so mad, and if I go right home, I’m afraid I’ll never get that anger out,” Antetokounmpo says. “This is how I get the anger away.”

He lived through horrific poverty and family illness and the most rudimentary of basketball infrastructures in Greece.

Within the shadows of the Acropolis, out on the sidewalks of downtown Athens, Giannis sold pencils and trinkets and plastic sunglasses. For hours and hours as young teens, Giannis and his old brother, Thanasis, had to push themselves to raise money for the dinner table. On the way home, they stopped at the market and grabbed the essentials. Their father worked two jobs, and their mother had a stretch of illness.

“We would be out on the street together, selling a toy, a watch, something, and we’d raise $10,” Thanasis told me once. “And that is good, because we didn’t starve today. We’re going to go home. We’re going to have something to eat. And it is a good day.”

Even though Isaiah Thomas has never dunked in a game, the 5'8 (don't believe the NBA official stat of 5'9 because I'm 6'0 and I feel like I'm towering over him) All-Star has serious hops. With that said, he doesn't have enough hops to win a jump ball against a 6'11 Greek Freak with a 7'0 wingspan and that's why he didn't even bother jumping.

Thomas did score a game-high 32 against Giannis and the Bucks but unfortunately came up a little short (no pun intended) in the 103-100 loss.

Speaking of short and jump balls, last month, Thomas and 5'9 Tyler Ulis got to participate in the unofficial shortest jump ball ever.

Look no further than the free agent signings today - $145 million here, $90 million there, $20 million for who - to understand why many players lose the concept of the value of money and spend cash as if they have an endless stack of winning lottery tickets.  And it's not the cars, the houses, the bad investments, the side chicks that makes the average person shake their heads at the players spending habits, it's stories like the ones Giannis Antetokounmpo hilariously tells a reporter in this video that does.

Before I get into his stories, you have to understand why they are so shocking to Giannis too. In a Grantland article about the Greek Freak, it said Giannis once pulled a pair of discarded shoes by Caron Butler out of the trash and said "What are you doing? These good shoes!’”  This is the same Giannis who Brandon Knight said would carry 6 or 7 boxes of free food from the player's lounge to his home to save money.  You might call that being cheap. I call it being smart and not being wasteful. And when I call him 10 years from now, I wont be calling him broke.

In this interview, when asked "what was the craziest thing you have seen a teammate do with his money," Giannis replied that Caron Butler once gave him $500 to buy a pack of gum and some Mountain Dew! I have a feeling it wasn't a 12 pack of Dew either, so the total bill couldn't have been more than $3.

Giannis said he's also seen teammates buy a PS4 at every away game and then leave it at the hotel! I'm assuming those teammates aren't bringing games with them, so they are probably spending $400-500 at each stop just to basically rent a console for a night or two.

Now, I'm not saying any of his mentioned teammates, or their great, great grand kids, will ever be broke, but it's this type of spending mentality that leads to financial problems and why people who have to wait till Christmas to make a $500 purchase are shaking their heads and not shedding a tear when they hear an Antoine Walker story.

As for Giannis, who once asked Zaza if there's any way he doesn't have to give up half of his check to Uncle Sam, I'll gladly listen to any story from him.

In the 90's Stacey Augmon had the nickname "Plastic Man" because he had long arms that seem to extend when going for a dunk on a defender.

The Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo could be the modern version of Plastic Man with his freakishly long arms which are perfect for giving facials like this one on Chris Bosh (sorry, I couldn't resist) last night or blocking someone, like Chris Bosh, like he did last month.

To go with those long arms he also has matching freakishly long legs which allows him to pick up his dribble from beyond the 3-point line and somehow make a layup right in front of the basket.
