During the finale of season 1 of TNT's The Dunk King, 5'5 Porter Maberry won $100,000 after jumping over 7'1 Shaquille O'Neal and winning the biggest budget non-NBA dunk contest ever. One of the losers in the event was international dunk phenom Guy Dupuy aka The Frequent Flyer aka a guy who is near impossible to beat.

In the finale of season 2, Guy not only found redemption by beating Porter and Jordan "Mission Impossible" Kilganon aka The Viral Dunker In Jeans with a dunk that left Shaq in tears, he left the contest with a fiance and a lot of money to pay for that ring, future wedding and honeymoon.

Besides Dupuy's proposal, this season's Dunk King actually had quite a few tear-jerker story lines and moments. You had a dunker Davene Carter aka Showtime who taken out of foster care and adopted by his sister (25 minute mark of the following video)...

You had another dunker with a touching story about  having two white Dads and there was Brandon Lacue aka Werm, who broke down in tears after completing a dunk that was dedicated to his recently deceased Dad.

If you were still awake after Inside the NBA after GM1 of the Thunder and Warriors series, then you were treated to the first episode of TNT's 4-part reality show/$100k dunk contest called 'The Dunk King.'

The first episode featured some great dunks by YouTube sensations and pro dunkers like Jordan Kilganon, Justin Darlington, Werm, Young Hollywood and Guy Dupuy, who has a 59" vert. Wait...what!?

"This is what a 59" vertical looks like."

Sorry Kenny Smith and TNT, Dupuy might be one of the best dunkers of all-time but he does NOT have a 59" vert and neither does or did Vince Carter, Michael Jordan, Spud Webb, Nate Robinson, Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon or any other basketball player you have seen in a NBA game or in a YouTube video.  Actually there's never even been a NBA player with a proven 50" vert, so if you think Dupuy has 13 inches on Jason Richardson or Gerald Green or 16 on Steve Francis then in the words of Dunk King judge Shaquille O'Neal, "stop it. just stop it!"

THE HISTORY

The first between the legs dunk in a NBA contest was done by Orlando Woolridge in 1984: He went baseline, wrapped the ball around his back and then between his legs and dunked. The dunk was rewarded with a score of 48 but quickly forgotten.

1 year later, a high-flying 14 year old from the bay did the dunk but with a lot more height and power in high school. A couple years later, that same kid had Dick Vitale jumping out of his chair when he did it during the NCAA dunk contest. Months later, the confident NCAA dunk champ said on draft night that if he gets into the 1994 NBA dunk contest he's winning it. He did get in it and he did win it. He also did his trademark dunk which had Dominque Wilkens comparing the rookie to himself and Charles Barkley saying "it might have been the best dunk he ever saw." The dunker was Isaiah "JR" Rider and his version of the between the legs dunk was called the "Eastbay Funk Dunk."

Since then we have seen many players - from Kobe to Vince Carter to Jason Richardson - win the NBA dunk contest with improved variations of the dunk: Off 2 feet, Reverse, With 2 Hands, Over a person. Then the evolution of the Eastbay was taken to new heights when a generation of pro dunkers made a name for themselves on YouTube and across social media by doing variations of the dunk that fans of the dunk and aerial artists like Rider never imagined was possible.

On October 24th 2014, Eastbay celebrated these dunkers and the evolution of the Eastbay Funk Dunk by hosting the first Eastbay Funk Dunk contest.

8 of the world's best dunkers - from Canada to France to Poland - gathered at The Halloween Classic Tournament at the American Sports Center in Anaheim, California to participate in a the event. An event that remixed the format and rules of
the traditional contest to make dunk contests feel fresh again. The biggest change was having the 8 players split up into teams of 2. Then those 2 teams had to go through 3 unique rounds: A freestyle round, a D.U.N.K round (the dunking version of H.O.R.S.E) and a Eastbay Evolution round judged by none other than the Eastbay Funk Dunk inventor Isaiah Rider.

THE RESULTS

In Round 1, Team 1, made up of Michael Purdie, Guy Dupuy, Kenny Dobbs and Porter Maberry,  became the crowd and favorite of the judges - Rider, streetball legend The Professor and NBA2KTV host Rachel DeMita - with a set of creative dunks highlighted by 5'5 Maberry jumping over one of his teammates.

In Round 2, Team 2, made up Sir Issac, Lipek, Justin Darlington and Jonathan Clark won the round with a bunch of dunks never seen in a NBA contest including a reverse split dunk and handstand dunk by Olympic hopeful Jonathan Clark.

In the final round, Team 1 pulled off a pair of Eastbay dunks over a bunch of kids while Team 2 missed a 360 Eastbay over a bunch of people - which might have been enough to top Team 1 if they were able to pull it off.

All 4 winners on the winning team won $2,500 each and the judges favorite on the losing team (Sir Issac) was also given a $2,500 prize. The remaining 3 players each won $750 for their participation. As a bonus, Eastbay also gave every participant a pair of Yeezy 350s which sells for a "few dollars."

Aside from a great show, the fans were able to get autographs and take pictures with the players and celebrity judges.

It was a great event which just like the Eastbay Funk Dunk in 1994, will only get better and more spectacular as the evolution of the dunk and the dunkers that do them continue to push the limits of dunking.

You know how people are always complaining when dunk contests have judges made up of "non-dunkers?" At the BET / Sprite Dunk Contest this past weekend, nobody could complain that the judges didn't know what they were talking about because the judges were 2014 and 2015 NBA Dunk Contest champions John Wall and Zach LaVine.....and Big Baby Davis (whispering).

The competition was deep with Werm, Michael Purdie, Los, Young Hollywood and defending champ Guy Dupuy, and the winner was once again Guy Dupuy who also  won the ESPN City Slam dunk contest earlier in the month and was seen catching lobs from the ankle-breaking Chris Brown earlier at the BET / Sprite Celeb game.

If you aren't familiar with Guy, who can also be seen in the Dennis Rodman goes to Korea documentary that aired on Showtime this past weekend, he can do every dunk LaVine can and took LaVine's behind the back dunk to a new level by jumping over somebody while doing it.

I'm not going to use this video as an excuse to put down 6'10 Blake Griffin's contest winning dunk over a car but watching this 5'10 guy named JeRamey Golden throw down a windmill over a car really makes me want to key a Kia.

But as impressive as this guy was, the guy who deserves the title of King of Dunking Over Cars is a guy named Guy Dupuy. ?Here's the Inside the NBA crew talking about Blake and Guy Dupuy doing a between the legs dunk over a car.

Maybe the most memorable dunk over a car for me came during this summer when a guy wearing a "RIP Eric Garner" t-shirt dunked over a police car in Staten Island. The dunk wasn't as impressive as the others, but the moment was more memorable.

Back to JeRamey, I'm looking forward to seeing more dunks from the newcomer on the dunk scene.

Earlier this year when The Legends of Basketball made a stop in Korea to play an exhibition game and sing happy birthday to Kim Jong-Un, Rodman gave us a classic CNN meltdown interview.

The travelling team made up ex NBA players (Sprewell, Payton, Baker) and known streetballers (8th Wonder, Silk, Guy Dupuy) are on the road again and made a stop in Argentina this past weekend and as expected, Rodman didn't disappoint.

Seeing Rodman in drag isn't that big of a deal since he's been doing it since the 90s but seeing him play a game looking like a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race is a big deal.

As for the actual game, if ?you take away Rodman's sideshow act, there's a great high flying act in the game by the name of Guy Dupuy (pictured below w/ Rodman after the game). ?If you visit Ballislife often then you have probably seen plenty of articles and videos about him but he's one of the greatest dunkers in the world and the most exciting player on the Legends of Basketball team.
