The New York Liberty made history against the Indiana Fever on Sunday. They were the first team to ever score 44 points in any given first quarter in WNBA History.
The Liberty were on a different level in the first half

No, Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart didn't lead the way, however I had the chance to catch up with them post-game. They both were extremely humble, and gave their insight on the team's success, and what the Liberty need to do, now that the season is halfway over.
Breanna Stewart, 28, is in the first year of her contract with the New York Liberty. Stewart, known as "Stewie," was a 2x WNBA Champion with the Seattle Storm. The former No. 1 pick has New York roots and is back in her home state. In Sunday's game, Breanna Stewart had 11 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and shot 4-11 from the field.
"I'm not sure what we shot from for that quarter, but it was incredible, and everybody was playing free and being comfortable—people were shooting confidently and also knowing, that's our goal," said Breanna Stewart on her team making WNBA history.
With 3:42 to go in the first-quarter, Fever rookie, Aliyah Boston caught a flagrant foul type 1, after Stewart took an elbow to the face. Aliyah Boston and Breanna Stewart have two things in common: They both were a former No. 1 overall draft pick, and they both won a championship at the collegiate level. "Stewie" spoke on the incident following the flagrant.
"[I mean] I just caught an elbow, things like that happen."
Stewart offered some encouraging words for the Fever Center, and advice about being a top WNBA pick.
"Taking one day at a time—enjoy all the moments, enjoy the struggles, because this is a journey, and [you know] —you're gonna continue to build with an Indiana Fever franchise, that's only getting better." Breanna Stewart on her advice as a rookie and what the future holds for Aliyah Boston.

After the win on Sunday, The Liberty are 16-5, and stand first in the Eastern Conference. With that said, New York already surpassed their record from 2022-2023, and the second half of the season has started. The Liberty are the second-best team, and only one team stands in there way, the Las Vegas Aces. What separates the Aces from the Liberty, or even the Connecticut Sun, is their net and offensive rating. While the Liberty rank second in the league in net rating (7.4), the Aces have them beat at a stellar 19.2. In addition, Las Vegas has an offensive rating of 114.1, while the Liberty have a 107.8 offensive rating. Las Vegas had four All-Stars represent the organization, and is chasing the best record in league history, held by the Phoenix Suns in 2014.
When I asked about Stewart's confidence in her team, she confidently smiled and stated, " We're now in like the second half of the season— I know that we wanna continue to get better. What we did in the first half is great—we're taking it one game at a time."
When asked about the Las Vegas Aces, Stewie humbly talked about her team, and how they plan to move forward, knowing the Aces stand in their way. "Obviously everyone's talking about Vegas, and we'll see them in the Commisioner's Cup, and in August, but making sure that [you know] we continue to do our due diligence for everybody and focus on that. "
While acknowledging the talent in the WNBA, Stewart stated the importance of doing their homework and staying to themselves. "If we continue to look at ourselves, and continue to get better that way, then the rest is for everyone else."
Breanna Stewart also opened up about teammate, Betnijah Laney, who had a career-high 22 points last game, and her playstyle. "I've known her for a long time, like since we were 14 or 16—so to be back with her, know that she never stops—I'm looking for her, she's looking for me, and just continuing to build that chemistry, because she gets open— she's open a lot, especially in the corners. "
Breanna Stewart on hard work and how it pays off on the court, " I think it's more like trusting the process and continuing to kind of stick with it."

Sabrina Ionescu, 25, is a two-time All-Star, and just broke the all-time NBA and WNBA three-point contest record with 37. Ionescu, drafted first overall in 2016, has a different role now that her, Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones formed a "superteam."

When asked about the team's success moving forward, Sabrina was very adamant about trusting her teammates, specifically the bench. "To have players come in off the bench and hit—hitting shots and playing in rhythm—it's huge for us as a team, and for them themselves, to just continue to build confidence.
Ionescu also mentioned the importance of gameplay and how the Liberty were able to play so effective against the Fever. " We're building chemistry—we were able to play to each other's strengths and use the gravity that we have— not letting defenses really dictate what we wanna do—and we were able to do that tonight. "
Now that the season is halfway over, New York has to lock in for 19 regular season games before the start of the playoffs. Sabrina was able to shed light on her rest days, and how the team mentally and physically prepares for the next game. "You know, normally we're in here trying to get extra shots up—understanding what the schedule looks ahead, means [you know] tomorrow is off, and everyone's gotta get their feet and take time to recover—we gotta stay fresh and locked in to be able to play for 40 minutes because we play at such a fast pace."
I specifically asked Sabrina about her ability to stay humble and stay disciplined following her historic All-Star weekend. Ionescu confidently stated, "I know what I'm capable of—capable of doing [you know] every single night, and I trust the work that I've put in." "Whether it's tonight or games in the future, I know that I'm gonna have to hit shots for us to continue to win basketball games."
The New York Liberty will look to build on their success tomorrow against the Seattle Storm, at home.

]]>The nationally-ranked Wolverines haven't lost to an in-state opponent this season. They won the Chicago city title and now they're focused on winning state.
They faced up and coming suburban Catholic power Brother Rice coached by former UNC guard and Brother Rice alum Bobby Frasor.
Brother Rice struck first. It was a 2-point game at half. In the end, Simeon's depth, size, athleticism and talent won out.
Simeon won 70-55. Stats weren't available for Rice but Marquise Kennedy and Josh Boulanger were standouts.
Drake commit Messiah Jones landed hard on his elbow and head in the second half but returned to dunk on some defenders and seal the win with a windmill dunk! Jones finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks.
Talen Horton-Tucker finished with 21 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks. Zion Young scored 13 off the bench. Simeon point guard Kejuan Clements scored 13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists.

]]>Orr was without head coach Lou Adams who was attending son Lou Jr's senior night at Wyoming where he plays basketball.
Orr defeated Uplift twice during the season (in conference play and at Proviso West Holiday tournament which Orr won). Neither game was close. This time was different.
Uplift jumped out to a 17-3 lead. They held a 12 point lead at the half. Senior Brian Hernandez poured in 7 threes (7-9) and Orr was able to tie Uplift in regulation.
After Uplift scoring leader, Kansas commit Markese Jacobs fouled-out with 3 minutes left overtime, Orr was able to cruise to a 75-66 win.
Chase Adams finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds. Ty Mosely (12 points), Raekwon Drake (13 points, 13 rebounds), and Dannie Smith (14 points, 8 rebounds) helped Orr's balanced attack but the scoring leader was Brian Hernandez (23 points)!
Uplift was led by juniors Markese Jacobs (23 points) and Detailian Brown (18 points).

]]>Chicago State's arena was virtually at capacity as the city's 2 heavyweight's faced-off.
Tied at halftime, Simeon never slowed-down. Perhaps it was depth or experience or simply the play of star senior Talen Horton-Tucker (23 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks) who willed the Wolverines to a 69-59 victory.
This was Simeon's third Public League title in 3 years. Senior Talen and junior PG Kejuan Clements (18 points, 5 rebounds) played on all 3 varsity squads.
Simeon's the first school to 3-peat since the 1950s-60s.
Orr was led by star senior point guard Chase Adams (16 points, 6 rebounds). His quickness gave Simeon fits at times but Orr was unable to sustain momentum.
Orr's senior frontcourt: Dannie Smith (15 points) and Raekwon Drake (13 points, 10 rebounds) were factors, outrebounding Simeon. It just wasn't enough.
Now both teams focus their attention on the Illinois state tournament. Orr tries to repeat as 2A champs and Simeon is looking to win 4A.

But first let's show how they got there. #2 Orr faced #3 Curie. Curie beat Orr in Curie's first game of the season. Curie's only in-state losses were 2 to #1 Simeon.
Curie jumped out first, but Orr's big physical front court of Dannie Smith (17 points, 10 rebounds)and Raekwon Drake (16 points) were too much to handle.
Chase Adams shot well (14 points) and Brian Hernandez (13 points) showed his range for Orr.
Final score was Orr 71-Curie 59. Curie (23-4) was led by guards Maurice Commander (16 points) and Marquise Walker (12 points).
Orr's basketball program is prominently featured in new FOX documentary "Shot in the Dark", executive produced by Dwyane Wade and Chance the Rapper.

]]>In the CPS quarterfinals, Simeon hosted Uplift, a small school on the city's north side led by 2019 Kansas commit Markese Jacobs.
It was also senior night. The seniors shined. Iowa State commit Talen Horton-Tucker continues his stat-stuffing senior season with 27 points, 14 rebounds.
It was an extra special game for Tucker who grew up on the city's North side (in Uplift's neighborhood). So both teams knew each other well.
Talen literally grew up and learned the game of basketball in Uplift's gym. Now, years later he's leading #1 Simeon against Uplift in the city playoffs...
Kenny Pittman scored 20 on six threes. Messiah Jones (11 rebounds) and junior Kejuan Clements scored 14.
Uplift led at halftime 45-43. From there Simeon started to took over. The final score was Simeon 86-77.
Detalian Brown led Uplift with 23 points. Markese Jacobs scored 21 and former Simeon player Dre Vortes scored 15.

]]>Although Zion never put up huge numbers playing at Hinsdale South (near Chicago) he elevated his game during AAU earning numerous high major offers, ultimately commiting to Iowa State.
Now a senior, Zion continues to light up the Chicago suburbs with his play despite much of it going under the radar as Hinsdale South has had an up and down season (or down and up).
Now Hinsdale South is nearing the end of its regular season and is contending for a conference title.
On the road at Leyden, Hinsdale South won convincingly 81-52 behind 21 points from it's biggest star, Zion Griffin. He was a force at both ends.
Playing the 5 for his high school team out of necessity, Zion's game might not look the same as he projects at the next level, but he's still one of the most
exciting, athletic high school basketball players in Illinois. He's a powerful dunker!

]]>After jumping out to a 12-0 lead it was clear Simeon came to send a message. Corliss had talked a little trash on twitter and Simeon put on a dunk show for their fans as they easily advanced to the quarterfinals 81-51 where they play Uplift.
It was a group effort for Simeon led by red hot Talen Horton Tucker's triple double (21/10/10). Junior Simeon guard Kejuan Clements had 14 points, 7 assists. Recent Mizzou commit Xavier Pinson 16 points, 6 assists. Guard Kenny Pittman picked up Division 1 offer from Oakland following his 13 point, 6 rebound performance. Drake commit Messiah Jones added 6 points 10 rebounds.
Former Simeon player Kobe Mapp led Corliss with 17 points. Dhashon Dyson scored 12 points and George Conditt added 8 points.

]]>Completely unknown 6'10 Chicago Corliss senior George Conditt had a breakout summer with local program Team RWA before committing to Iowa State.
Even as a high major recruit, Conditt and his Corliss team don't get much coverage because they don't play in the Chicago Public League's Red (high) Divisions.
With an 18-3 record, Corliss entered the city playoffs as a huge underdog against first round opponent North Lawndale College Prep, one of the strongest teams on the city's West Side (Red Division).
NLCP got out to a big early lead but Corliss fought back, pulling off a 60-58 upset win on the road.
George Conditt finished with 19 points, 19 rebounds, seven blocks. He dominated the paint on the defensive end.
Guard Kobe Mapp finished with 18 points for Corliss.
NLCP was missing some players. 2019 Demetrius Douglas led NLCP with 20 points. David Forrest scored 7 points, 11 rebounds and Marquese Becton scored 8 with 8 rebounds for NLCP.
Corliss coach Harvey Jones was a former North Lawndale assistant coach. Next, Corliss faces #1 Simeon where Coach Jones also used to coach.
Also Iowa State basketball commits George Conditt and Talen Horton-Tucker will face-off for the first (and last) time in high school basketball.

They faced #2 (in Chicago region) Curie who's only in-state loss was against Simeon in December.
Curie put up a fight but Chicago's top team Simeon cruised to an 80-63 win before a soldout home crowd (it's first of the season).
Broadcast live on Twitter via Gatorade, Baron Davis and Rachel Demita were on hand as well as Bucks' Jabari Parker (famous Simeon alum and 4-time Illinois state champ).
All season, Simeon has been led by Talen Horton-Tucker, an underrated Iowa State commit. Now people are waking up!
THT finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks. Drake commit Messiah Jones added 16 points, 10 rebounds for Simeon. Simeon junior Kejuan Clements (PG) scored 11. Xavier Pinson scored 11.
Curie was led by junior guard Marquise Walker (19 points) and Maurice Commander (16 points).

For the season, Tre Jones is averaging 25.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 3.7 steals per game.

A month into this high school season, Simeon is looking like the top team in Illinois and their senior star Talen Horton-Tucker (Iowa State) is looking like the state's top player!
#1 Simeon (11-2) faced #2 Chicago Curie (10-2) in the championship of the 87th annual Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Both teams were undefeated against in-state teams.
Curie is big, physical, quick, talented and deep and still they were no match for Simeon on this day.
For Talen Horton-Tucker, the time is NOW! He played 2 seasons on the JV/Sophomore team but now the varsity team is his.
Tucker led Simeon with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in their 67-48 win. He showed confidence at both ends. He blocked shots and also made the best passes of the day!
After the game Coach Rob Smith said: "I don’t know if there is another player in the state that can do all the things he can on the floor.”
Simeon junior Kejuan Clements and Bakari Simmons (son of former NBA vet Bobby Simmons) each scored 10 points and transfer Zion Young added eight.
Curie Condors were led by junior transfer Marquise Walker (20 points). He was the only Condor is double figures.

]]>Fresh of a productive trip to City of Palms in Ft Myers Florida, Kaukauna faced undefeated Waunakee who are led by Belmont-bound Mitch Listau.
Waunakee put multiple defenders on Mccabe for the entire game. They ran the Diamond and One and stuck with it.
Waunakee broke out to an early lead. But in the second half, the Ghosts scored 60 points on their way to a 101-66 win.
101 is the most points ever scored in the event. West Virginia commit Jordan Mccabe finished with just 9 (or 10) points but added 16 assists setting a new WBY record.
Eric Carl added 22 points for Kaukana. Dylan Kurey was a force for Kaukana finishing with 18 points, 20 rebounds!
Mitch Listau finished with 21 points and Will Knatz scored 16 for Waunakee.

IT'S NOT WHERE YOU START
Recent UC Berkeley signee Ivan Rabb has already become somewhat of a folk hero around his future campus. The greatest source of the Golden Bear-to-be's legend is not his tantalizingly long 6'10 frame or his McDonalds All-American skillset, but rather an attribute much more associated with fortune 500 entrepreneurs than teenage hoop stars. The country’s top public institution now reveres the eighteen-year-old and his persuasion. Rabb tipped the scales for top Cal recruit Jaylen Brown and reportedly Caleb Swanigan is not far behind. While credit for the two top recruits’ interest has not officially been given to Rabb, around college basketball some are referring to him as the sport's top recruiter. Cal’s newest power forward began developing this type of artistry years ago.
Paris Austin was just fourteen and headed to his local public high school in Oakland when his close friend Rabb suggested that Bishop O'Dowd, the nearby catholic school, would be a good place to spend his next couple of years. Before he could obtain a learner’s permit Rabb had an eye for transcendent talent.
In Austin, Rabb saw a kindred spirit. The two met in the 5th grade while playing for one of Oakland's local AAU programs. Rabb was playing up with the program's older team, yet the two bonded after discovering they shared a deep devotion to the game that simply wasn't in the rest of their fellow ten year-old teammates. The bond and their commitment to the game deepened as they went on to share the floor on the local middle school
"I don't know how many 5th or 6th graders take basketball that serious," Austin wondered, "Ivan and I were always watching the game or playing it. He lives close by and we spent a lot of time together on those courts." Paris explained in his bedroom of his parents house, while pointing out the window towards the Oakland blacktops a few streets over. By their 8th grade year they’d built chemistry, along with individual skillsets, and hit new heights as their Oakland Soldiers took the country by storm.
"That year is when things got really serious," Paris explained, "we were playing for a really good team and spending a lot of time together on the road in hotels, just talking. We challenge each other a lot, he has no problem coming up to be and saying 'P, what are you doing' and I have no problem doing the same. If Ivan wasn't one of the best players in the country I believe we would still be really good friends just based on his character. He's family.”
Rabb's premonition laid the groundwork for one of the greatest one-two punches in high school basketball this year. The East Oakland duo conjures memories of Chris Webber and Jason Williams. Rabb is as skilled of a big man as you'll find at the prep level. He has range and touch from the outside, a great knack for finding the open man out of a double team, and an endless array of post moves to get him to the rim where he knows exactly how to finish. His childhood friend has every bit the flair White Chocolate had when he exploded on to the NBA scene. Spectators eject out of their seats into a standing ovation in reacting to Austin’s lighting quick crossovers and passes that bend the laws of geometry. A better comparison might be former NBA lottery pick and Coney Island standout Sebastian Telfair, in the way Austin makes it appear as if the court is covered in a thick layer of snow and he is the only wearing skis. However, unlike J-Will and Bassy Telfair before him, Boise State's future floor general is rarely out of control. As quick as he can appear when blowing by helpless defenders, he can just as easily slow the game and dissect it frame by frame. Its a feel that cannot be taught and one that’s most associated with Chauncey Billups and Chris Paul.
Despite all the lines of comparison that can be drawn to great point guards before him, Paris Austin's most defining characteristic is the one associated with his home’s soil. No word in the english language more aptly describes the city of Oakland, California better than toughness. It is a trait carried by all the great point guards to come out of Oakland. Brian Shaw and Gary Payton may have perfected it. Jason Kidd combined it with a savant understanding of the game and most recently the Trail Blazers’ Damian Lilliard has used it to drive him from obscurity to a certifiable star. Lilliard in particular is a fellow Oakland product who Austin studies meticulously, specifically his deadly stepback jumper which Austin has added in the last year. As an unheralded mid-major star who became a NBA lottery pick, there is no better blueprint for Austin to follow. Terry, Austin’s father, remembers early on when his son first showed flashes of that hometown unshakeable toughness and self-belief on the court.
"When he was a little guy I felt like P was right where he needed to be, but nothing really specially. Competitive but nowhere to the level he is now. Then there would be glimpses, like a step-back baby-step or pushing the ball.”
There was one definitive time when Terry Austin can remember realizing his son had something burning inside him. "I can remember taking him to these little tournaments around here and we went to one in Berkeley. It was Paris's first time playing with this particular team and it was a tough game that came down to the last five seconds. The team swung the ball to him, he made a move and hit a shot to win the game. This coach went crazy and to this day keeps asking me to bring him back. The tenacity he played with and the confidence to take that kind of shot on a team of players he didn't know...it was after that game when I said to myself 'we might have something here.'"
Around that time a small buzz began to build around the fiery point guard from Oakland. Austin and Rabb's former coach on one of their earlier AAU teams, Steve Arowsman, remembers the first time he saw Austin play was coaching against Austin. He had already heard about him from kids on his team and some of them thought they were better than Paris.
"I told them, 'we'll find out' after the first half I remember thinking we need to get this guy on our team.”
Arowsman, who is known as "Rossi" by those close to him, got his way. Austin began playing for Rossi shortly after the lesson in humility he gave his future teammates and remains close with Rossi to this day. He often acts in a big brother role to put things in perspective for Paris. Along with his father Terry, they have had countless hours of conversations about focusing on the bigger picture, working hard and letting everything else take care of itself. It was during one of those long talks that Rossi told Paris while he was playing junior varsity as a freshman itching for a place on the varsity, “It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.”
Paris took the words to heart and it has become somewhat of a mantra to lean on when life isn’t going as smooth as his crossover. That mindset best explains Paris’s indifference to the various scouting services and websites that many of those who watched Paris throughout his career felt overlooked his rare skillset.
Through the first three years of his high school career Paris built a reputation as a quick, tough point guard. He played well on the AAU circuit in the summer and earned the starting point guard spot at O'Dowd by his sophomore year. Despite being overlooked by the various national scouting sites, interest in Paris began to build from a variety of mid-major programs. St. Mary's and San Jose State each made a strong push to keep him close to home, while Montana pursued him in hopes of duplicating the success they experienced with another hard-nosed Oakland point guard named Will Cherry just a few years earlier. But no school contacted him sooner and more frequently than Boise State. The Broncos staff, specifically assistant John Rillie, were a constant in Paris's life no matter how things were going on the court. When he was struggling with his shot Rillie kept calling him. When he was having a great summer with his AAU team Dream Vision following his junior year Rillie kept calling him.
When Paris began talking to bigger programs Rillie called. Even when he told Boise he wasn’t leaning towards going there Rillie called. When he really sat down and put things into perspective, as he so often did with Terry and Rossi, Paris decided he valued the loyalty Boise and Coach John(as he calls Rillie) had showed. He concluded Boise was the right fit and signed with them in November just weeks before the first game of his senior season. Despite not being the big time program he once dreamed of suiting up for he was unphased. He knew once he got to Boise it would be a clean slate. Where he stood in the class of 2015 player rankings would mean nothing. Rossi's words rang truer than ever, "It's not where you start, it’s where you finish."
Austin's senior season at Bishop O'Dowd served as glaring proof that Rossi's words he so often echoed were not simply lip service. From the beginning it was clear this would be a special season for Paris and the 2014-15 O'Dowd Dragons. In the season’s very first game he and Ivan put on an absolute show against one of the country's top teams in Bishop Gorman. They took down the team stacked with multiple five star recruits in a convincing 63-55 victory. Ivan dominated the paint against the monstrous Gorman frontline that had an average height of 6’11. While Paris knocked down threes off the dribble, controlled the game and of course, kept the crowd on their feet with a spectacular passes.
Building on the Bishop Gorman win Paris and Ivan went on to lead the Dragons to a 27-4 season, which they would finish ranked 7th in the country according to USA Today. In the process Paris would put to bed a nagging question scouts had long posed regarding his jump shot. It was considered inconsistent and a glaring red flag, some thought it would greatly affect his ability to excel at the next level. All season long Paris went about definitively answering that question. Knocking down big threes in big moments as he had in the Bishop Gorman game throughout the season. The issue was officially buried for dead in January when Paris knocked down a school record 12 threes on his way to finishing with another school record of 43 points. Paris and his buddy from down the block had made Bishop O’Dowd a show no one wanted to miss.
While quieting the critics on his jump shot was satisfying, Paris, Ivan and the rest of this years O'Dowd team set out for this season with one goal in mind, take home a state title. They had fallen to Mater Dei the year before and were out for revenge. O'Dowd marched through NorCal on their way to the state title game with Paris playing his best basketball of the year.
Finally they got their wish, in late March they met Mater Dei once again, this time at Cal’s Haas Pavilion for a shot at what they had been working towards from day one.
The first half did not go according to plan. Mater Dei was on fire from the outside, while O'Dowd was noticeably out of sync. Paris went into the locker room at halftime with just one point to his name. Throughout the crowd largely made up of O’Dowd fans there was an unmistakeable sense of desperation. What happened next is where they get ideas for Disney movies and one of the most impressive second half performances in the history of the California state championship games.
With he and Rossi's mantra etched in his brain, Paris shook off the first half and focused on what mattered, how you finish. He proceeded to rack up 20 points in the half and lead O'Dowd back from behind to send the game to overtime. With only seconds to go the ball was swung to Paris just as it had so many years ago when his dad had noticed something special in him. He blew by his defender down the baseline. He had an opening for a floater, but when Mater Dei’s star center MJ Cage slid over his instincts as a pure point guard took over and he found Ivan for an open six footer in the lane. Ivan was fouled with fractions of a second left on the clock. Before Ivan stepped to the line with a state championship on the line two old friends embraced near the top of the key. Paris can’t remember exactly what he said, but he remembers mentioning this was what they had talked about when they first got to high school and he needed Ivan to take them home. Only one sentence that he uttered sticks out vividly enough for him to recall and he asked that you excuse his language. “Get this shit done.” Ivan did just that, knocking down the second free throw to put O’Dowd up one.
When Mater Dei’s full-court heave fell short, the two embraced once again as half Oakland poured onto the Haas Pavilion floor. In the final game of their high school careers they had finished the job they talked about years ago in the back of their parents car, in hotel rooms during AAU tournaments and on the blacktops of East Oakland. A story book ending to Paris Austin's high school career, it could not have ended any better. Scout.com recently bumped him into the class of 2015 top 100 rankings that had alluded him for the last four years. Life is good for Oakland's most recent point guard prodigy. In a few short weeks he'll walk the stage at Bishop O'Dowd’s graduation. The very next day he’ll take off for Boise to start his college career. But he'll be the first to tell you, that part doesn't doesn't matter.

Streetball guards are usually distinguished between two positions: ball handlers and entertainers. Although ball handlers take care of the rock most of the time, entertainers understand that handling the rock is just part of what they do. Everyone comes to streetball games not only to see the competition but for the entertainment, and the Ball Up squad understands that. That’s why when Ball Up’s entertainers, AO and Sik Wit It, come to play, they’re looking to put on a performance for the crowd. If you’ve ever been to a game with these two playing, you know they’re not just playing basketball. From time to time, when AO’s in the game, he'll just start clowning. He will take hold of the camera and shoot some of the action while Sik Wit It entertains by spinning the ball on his finger dancing to the music being played. They always keep the crowd interested while still performing at a high level of streetball.
We were able to ask AO a few questions about entertaining the crowd.
Ball is Life: You are considered a veteran to the streetball game. Do you think it’s tougher now to keep crowds entertained compared to when you first started since now everyone has expectations on what they’re going to see?
AO: It’s tougher because it’s been eleven years since the first streetball tour, so fans want to see the impossible now.
BIL: I see you guys always joking around and having fun. Do you think your game reflects your personality? Or is it more of an alter ego when you go out there?
AO: Yeah, who you are as a person is definitely what the fans see on the court.
BIL: How do you come up with something new to keep the crowd entertained?
AO: My game is all spontaneous so whatever I do at that moment was meant for that moment.
BIL: Do you still have the same love for the fans as you did when you first started? Do you still get the same enjoyment entertaining the fans?
AO: The fans keep me going from kids who looked up to me 10 years ago to the new generation of fans with Ball Up.
No matter how you feel about streetball, these guys have been on their grind putting the work in to keep crowds entertained throughout the last decade. The Ball Up team is doing its best to not only keep improving their game but also keeping their fan base hyped to see every game.

]]>BallIsLife: So, with the NBA playoffs in action, which teams do you think will make it to the NBA Finals? Who do you think will take the championship?
Nolan Smith: The NBA finals will be OKC vs Heat, and I think the thunder will win it all! Especially adding fuel to KD's fire, not winning the MVP.
BIL: How was the transition from being a star player on a National Championship Duke team to playing limited minutes for the Trailblazers? What was the most difficult part of the 66 game season? Who's been the biggest help as far as a mentor?
NS: The transition to the NBA was smooth, I came in prepared and ready to play, obviously some coaches at this level just choose to go with their veterans. But that time allowed me to learn, from some of the vets playing. Ray Felton was my biggest mentor, coming from a pg, he was just always willing to teach and reach out to me, so I stayed ready to play.
BIL: Who's the toughest player you've had to guard?
NS: The toughest was Steve Nash, he is very crafty off the pick and rolls, which made him tough to control.
BIL: So, how'd you get involved with Deuce Brand?
NS: I got involved with DeuceBrand through twitter, they saw how active I was with my fans, and how willing I am to have fun, so they asked me to started doing contests, and I also loved the watches!
BIL: Did you have a lot of input for your signature watch?
NS: Yes I designed my signature watch myself, they let me do what I felt was me, and what meant something to me.
BIL: So, what's your plans for the summer? Going anywhere? Just training?
NS: My summer plans, live in the gym! That's what I always do every summer, I've been doing it since I was in high school. I love working and getting better. So that's my plan. DC, Durham, Portland, just working hard.
BIL: Random question: What music have you been listening to? Any new artists? Who's one artist that you listen to no one would suspect you to?
NS: I listen to Wale and Meek Mill, those are my favorite two artist out right now, but I also listen to Lecrae who is a Christian rapper, whose flow can compare to all of the top rappers.
