Today's Epic Duel takes us back to 2005, when Dwyane Wade was part of the dynamic championship duo of Superman and Flash.

On this night, Flash had to step up big against Allen Iverson and the 76ers with the Big (fill in the blank) still suffering from a stomach virus which kept him out of the previous three games. Wade responded with a career-night of 48 points and 10 rebounds.

"He showed he's a different kind of player by shooting the ball the way he did," Iverson said of Wade after the game. "Our scouting report said let him shoot jumpers. But it didn't work. He just played great."

As great as he was, it wasn't enough as a playoff-hungry AI put up 38 points and 16 assists in the 126-119 OT win.

"It's like a do or die situation," Iverson said. "A loss here or there and we could be out of the playoffs. We understand that. It just says a lot about us."

An upset Superman -- looking more like Clark Kent in this one -- skipped the post game interviews after missing two clutch free throws in the final minute. He also missed 8 of 11 free throws in his limited playing time and only managed 13 points.

"He looked like Shaq to me," Iverson said, smiling.

Allen Iverson, the Nuggets' All-Star, isn't as celebrated and remembered as AI, the Philly legend, but the Bubba Chuck in Denver was still putting up numbers and doing a lot of damage to defenders during those mostly forgotten years.

On December 5th of 2007, Iverson dropped 51 points along with 8 assists on longtime nemesis Kobe Bryant and his Lakers. 49 of those 51 came in the first three quarters as Iverson knocked down 17-of-23 shots.

"I just felt like everything was going to go in," Iverson said after the game. "I kept attacking. It seemed like every move that I made threw the defender off. After you hit a couple jump shots, the defender has to play the jumper. I'd get his feet set and was able to drive by and make something happen."

As expected, it was all Kobe Bryant in the fourth quarter as he outscored Iverson 12-2 in the final session and led the Lakers to a 114-107 victory.

For those who were there at McDonough Gymnasium on August 4, 1994, few will forget the arrival of a 6-0 freshman guard who needed no introduction.

The rumors of Allen Iverson, released from jail just 24 hours earlier, coming to the Kenner Summer League on that Sunday afternoon, created a big buzz in the city and an over packed gym with a long line of rejected people outside. What those rejected people outside missed was Allen Iverson scoring 40 points that day and a combined 99 points in three days against some of the best collegiate talent in the city.

Some were actually disappointed he didn't score more, but considering he hadn't played organized basketball in over a year, I would say he played pretty well for a player that had to shake off some rust.

Antonio Daniels ended his career in Philly back in 2011. But it almost ended a few years earlier, when the 76ers' Allen Iverson almost gave Daniel's career an early RIP in the city of brotherly love. The move that almost did it to the former #4 Draft pick was a double crossover that made Daniels fall TWICE!

What many people don't know about the Hall of Fame ankle-breaking moment is Daniels served up a cold dish of revenge on AI just minutes later.

Here's a flashback clip of a young Kobe getting "shook" by a young Allen Iverson...TWICE in the same game back in 1999.

In this game, which was the first sellout for the 76ers that season, Philly native Kobe Bryant took the challenge of guarding the rookie of the year from his draft class. Iverson responded to the challenge by following up a 39-point game with 41 points (on a career-high 36 attempts), a season-high 10 assists and another W. The 41 was his 8th career 40-point game and surprisingly the first time the 76ers won a game with AI scoring 40. The performance also increased the distance between him and Shaq for the NBA scoring race.

Kobe had 23 points in the 15 point loss and at that time was still looking for his 1st 40-point game.

Kobe was recently asked about his favorite memory of Iverson and he had the following to say about him and this game.

"And AI as a competitor, he drove me to be as obsessive, more obsessive about the game, because I had to figure out how to solve that problem, you know? And I told him — I saw him here this weekend. I said you don’t realize how much you pushed me. And I don’t think people nowadays realize how great you were as a player and how big of a problem you were for defenses. Happy for them both.

“When I matched up AI in Philadelphia in 1999, that was a big turning point for me. I remember being on the bus saying, you know what, I’ve got to become one of the best defensive players of all time because I can’t have this happen. That’s a direct result of what AI did to me that night in Philadelphia. I don’t think people realize how cold he was. They have no idea how hard it was to guard this guy. ”

During Iverson's jersey retirement in 2014, many of the leagues best players took to social media to post congrats to the player many consider the best pound-for-pound basketball player of all-time. One of those players was Kobe, who posted these words.

On this day in history, June?3rd of 2001, Allen Iverson (44pts) and the 76ers eliminated Ray Allen and the Bucks in GM7 of one of the most controversial playoff series of all-time. A series many claim was rigged.

The conspiracy theory that Ray Allen and Coach George Karl believed in was the NBA and NBC did not want a "small market" team like the Bucks to face off against Shaq, Kobe and the Lakers in the NBA Finals.

"It behooves everybody for the league to make more money, and the league knows that Philadelphia is going to make more money with L.A. than we would with L.A." said an angry Ray Allen after a controversial GM5 loss in the series.

Here's Bill Simmon's recount of the series.

If crooked NBA playoff series were heavyweight boxers, then the 2002 Western finals (Lakers-Kings) was George Foreman and the 2001 Eastern finals (Bucks-Sixers) was Earnie Shavers. Translation: People remember only George, but Earnie was almost as memorable. To briefly recap, Philly's wins in Games 1 and 4 swung on a controversial lane violation and two egregious no-calls. The Sixers finished with advantages of 186-120 in free throws, 12-3 in technicals and 5-0 in flagrant fouls. Glenn Robinson, one of Milwaukee's top-two scorers, didn't even attempt a free throw until Game 5. Bucks coach George Karl and star Ray Allen were fined a combined $85,000 after the series for claiming the NBA rigged it. In that game, Milwaukee's best big man, Scott Williams, was charged with a flagrant foul but not thrown out, only to be suspended, improbably, for Game 7.

The defining game: When Philly stole a must-win Game 4 in Milwaukee despite an atrocious performance from Iverson (10-for-32 shooting), helped by a 2-to-1 free-throw advantage and a host of late calls. How one-sided was it? When an official called a harmless touch foul to send Sam Cassell to the line with two seconds left and the Bucks trailing by seven (maybe the all-time we-need-to-pad-the-free-throw-stats-so-they-don't-seem-so-lopsided-afterward call), the subsequent sarcastic standing ovation nearly morphed into the first-ever sarcastic riot. And this was Milwaukee, the most easygoing city in the country! Nobody remembers this. The real loser was Allen, who exploded for 190 points in the series, including a record nine three pointers in do-or-die Game 6. Nobody remembers this, either. Even I didn't remember it. Crap.

What I remember, as a Lakers fan, is how crappy I felt when the 76ers prevented the Lakers from sweeping the entire playoffs by winning GM1 of the Finals. After the game, the Answer had Philly fans questioning if the Lakers would be able to repeat as Champions but even with Mutombo on their roster, Philly had no answer for Shaq and lost the next 4.

Now, I don't think the Bucks would have been able to beat LA, but as Simmons noted in his post, the Bucks did sweep the top 4 teams in the Western conference that season, including the Lakers, and LA didn't have an answer for the trio of Sam, Jesus and Big Dog. Oh well, I guess we will never know how that series would have played out...thanks to NBA and NBC.

I'm kidding about my support of the conspiracy because what most people don't know is the NBA, in general, rather have more games in a series than more popular teams in a shorter series. ?So if the "small market" Bucks would have played LA and took them to 7 then David Stern would have been a lot happier with that than Philly taking LA to 5.

Flashback to 2009, when a rookie Stephen Curry had the opportunity to play against one of his childhood heroes during AI's farewell season in the NBA.

Steph put up a nice stat line of 14 points, 4 boards, 4 assists and 4 steals but only hit 38% of his shots while turning the ball over 4 times and committing 5 fouls. An under-control-way-past-his-prime AI finished the game with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 4 assists. He would score?20+ four more times in the final 22 games of his Hall of Fame career.

And here's Steph Curry saying, "lowkey, I always wanted to be like Allen Iverson," when asked about wearing a shooting sleeve during Game 1 of the 2017 NBA Finals.

In the 3rd quarter of Memphis' win over the Orlando Magic on Friday, Jeff Green scored 2 of his team-high 21 points on a dunk on Victor Oladipo which knocked Dipo to the ground.  Green gave him a quick stare and then stepped over his legs the way Iverson did Lue in the NBA finals. December 1999 - This game took place a few weeks before the Y2K bug was supposed to shut down the world so lucky for the 76ers they got to celebrate like Prince when they came back from a 17 point deficit to beat the dunking cousins and Raptors in this exciting game.

Iverson, in only his second game back from a broken thumb, scored 37 points, grabbed 7 boards, dished 7 assists and 1 fake-out on a cameraman (2:13 mark).

Playing his second game after missing 10 with a broken thumb, Iverson scored 37 points as the 76ers used a big third quarter and held off the Toronto Raptors, 93-91.

Iverson, who scored 11 points in 21 minutes before sitting down for good midway through the third quarter in Saturday's 106-84 loss to Charlotte, made two free throws to give Philadelphia the lead for good at 83-81 with?3:56?to go. He scored 10 points in the third period, when the 76ers outscored the Raptors, 27-14.

"We needed to start playing basketball, the kind of basketball we were playing when Matt (Geiger) and I were out," said Iverson. "The first game I come back we get blown out and we were down 14 at the half. After a while you need to look in the mirror and that's what I did. That's why I changed my game in the second half to help everybody around me instead of doing it on my own."

The 6-foot Iverson, the 1997 Rookie of the Year and last season's scoring champion, shot just 13-of-34 from the field. But he also had seven rebounds and seven assists as Philadelphia defeated Toronto for the fourth time in five games.

"I thought the first half was a repeat of the Charlotte game," said Philadelphia coach Larry Brown. "We had no clue defensively, our shot selection was horrible and they got every loose ball. At halftime I talked to them and reminded them about what this team is all about. We had to stress defense first, not take the first quick shot, work the clock and grind it out."

Vince Carter, last season's Rookie of the Year, scored 19 points to lead the Raptors. Carter had a chance to give Toronto its fifth win in seven games but his jumper from the left corner hit the front of the rim as time expired.

"They came out hungry in the second half," Carter said. "They wanted to win the game and we had no energy. We need to win games. This was a big game for us and we didn't get it. We have to sit back down and evaluate where we are now and where we want to be."

Tracy McGrady, rumored to be offered to Philadelphia for guard Larry Hughes, scored 18 points and Antonio Davis grabbed 18 rebounds for Toronto.

"We lost the intensity we had in the first half and it cost us," McGrady said. "We dug a hole in the third quarter and couldn't get out. They took it to us and we couldn't stop them and they killed us on the glass. They outran us and there was nothing we could do about it."

The Raptors were within 90-89 on a layup by Davis with 7.9 seconds left, but Iverson made two free throws after taking the inbounds pass. Davis dunked with two seconds left to make it 92-91 and Eric Snow hit one free throw with nine tenths of a second to play, leaving the Raptors with a chance for the final shot.

Hughes scored 11 of his 12 points after halftime and Philadelphia held a 27-20 advantage in rebounds in the final two quarters after being dominated on the boards in the first half.

Geiger had four of his nine points in Philadelphia's 12-3 burst that cut the deficit to 58-53 when Iverson made one free throw with?7:21to go in the third quarter.

The Sixers ended the period with a 13-6 surge and got within 69-61 when Hughes made a layup with 4.1 seconds remaining. Iverson had seven points in the spurt.

Kevin Willis, who scored 17 points, opened the fourth quarter with two free throws and a layup to give Toronto a 73-68 lead with?10:39remaining. The Sixers tied the game as Aaron McKie made two free throws with?9:58?left and Hughes completed a three-point play 52 seconds later.

Toronto's last lead came at 81-80 when Carter hit a 21-footer with4:04?to go. After a 20-footer by Iverson, Carter made a running jumper to pull the Raptors within 85-83 with?2:40?remaining. Toronto had a chance to tie the game, but Davis made only one free throw 21 seconds later.

Geiger's jumper from the left corner made it 87-84 with?2:05?left. Charles Oakley made two free throws with?1:45?to play but George Lynch answered with a jumper 11 seconds later, giving the Sixers an 89-86 edge.

The NBA's Top 10 All-Star dunks list was arguably one of the worst lists I've ever seen. I know lists are subjective but when you neglect 3 dunk that are unanimously mentioned in the top 4 or 5 then your list sucks.

They also did lists for blocks and assists that were much less controversial.  The only issues with the assists video is it contained a MJ dunk that was better than most of the dunks in the dunk video and it reminded people how awesome it was to see great passing in an All-Star game....and I don't mean wide open oops.

They also made a list called Top 10 Circus shots and the issue with that video is only about 2 or 3 would be considered circus shots - #1 in that video was actually a running hook by Kobe.

The one other list they did make that pissed off a few people, nowhere near as much as the dunks list, was the Top 10 Crossovers mix.  Many of the complaints were just ignorant as they wondered why plays from regular season games and the NBA Rising stars game (Kyrie on Knight) weren't included.  But the biggest complaint was the abscence of Allen Iverson.

For those who want to see fancy handles by AI in the All-Star games, these vids are for you including a great vid of Shaq trying to make a deal with Iverson to let him cross the king of crossovers.

Shaq himself has pulled out the crossover a few times in the NBA All-Star game.  Most of the times the results were pretty bad like this...
