Chicago High School Basketball Culture is Strong.

The South Side's Simeon Career Academy is known as a Public League basketball powerhouse, coached by Robert Smith. Kenwood Academy is quickly on the rise as the city's newest basketball powerhouse under coach Mike Irvin. These 2 Red South foes only meet once a year so the city came out for the biggest game in nearly 2 years (no crowds last season). It was a BATTLE. See how Chicago produces the toughest players.

Kenwood features Dai Dai Ames (star PG), senior Trey Pettigrew (Nevada), shooter Darius Robinson, ranked Davius Loury (picked up Florida offer after the game) and freshman Bryce Heard (and more). Simeon is led by senior guards Jaylen Drane and Aviyon Morris. Also jr PG Jalen Griffith and the Rubin brothers Wesley and Miles. Both teams have depth too.

Former Simeon stars (state champs) Jabari Parker and Jaylon Tate were in the gym to support their Wolverines. JP also played AAU ball for Coach Irvin and Mac Irvin Fire. Check out these highlights.

CHICAGO'S TOUGHEST GUARDS?! Jalen Griffith Leads Simeon vs Undefeated Curie in Pontiac Championship!

Chicago Simeon Career Academy is known for producing NBA Players like Derrick Rose, Jabari Parker, Kendrick Nunn and Talen Horton-Tucker. In recent years Curie High School has won Chicago City titles and Illinois 4A Basketball state titles.

The 2 Chicago Public League (Red South conference) high school basketball powerhouses met in the championship game of the 90th Pontiac Holiday Tournament in Pontiac Illinois. Curie came in undefeated for the season. Simeon is undefeated in Illinois (lost out of state).

Curie led at the half but check out the full highlights!

Simeon PG Jalen Griffith had a standout game and Wesley Rubin won tournament MVP (AC Williamson award). Jaylen Griffith and Aviyon Morris also starred in Simeon's backcourt. Carlos Harris was a bright spot for Chicago Curie. Chikasi Ofama had a strong tournament for Curie as well. Can't wait for the rematch!

Jalen Griffith took Ballislife around Chicago for a DAY IN THE LIFE!
This episode follows Jalen from his 8th grade All Star game to his barbershop on the West Side. Then we rush to the South Side for a game with his school team, Ariel Community Academy. When it gets cancelled, the players head outside on the nice day for a RARE outdoor game of pickup basketball.

These Are 8th Graders?! Big East commit Amari Bailey v Jaylen Drane. Intense Round 1!

Amari Bailey is an 8th grade basketball player from Chicago. He's known nationally for his scoring ability and skills. Before entering his 8th grade year, Amari Bailey committed to play college basketball at DePaul in the Big East. This shows how highly young Amari is regarded. Amari and his Skinner Elementary teammates (Grades 7-8) faced off against the city's top middle school team Ariel at Whitney Young High School's Best of the Best Tournament. This matchup took place in the semis and featured Amari Bailey versus the city's other most-touted guard Jaylen Drane. Drane and Bailey were teammates on Meanstreets (AAU) over the summer. They played 13U and 15U occasionally. Ariel is probably Chicago's most talented and deepest team.
In Chicago these team play a lot of games each season (50?!) so look for Ariel and Skinner to get a rematch at the Chicago Elite Classic at UIC (on a college court)!
Lastly, on a random note, yes that was Amari Bailey and his mom Johanna you saw on the reality show "Bringing Up Ballers."
