Here's North Carolina State Commit Jericole Hellems going off against Whitney Young in rematch from last years 79-69 loss against the Chicago power-house school.

Chaminade led by Jericole Hellems went off for 28 points to go with nine rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block, showing the midwest that the team is ready for whoever is in their way and is looking strong for a shot at winning State this year. Kasubke scored 20 points and had five rebounds. Batchman had 17 points and seven rebounds and threw down a nasty dunk off the break. Jadis White had 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals & Henry Gladson had 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Whitney Young senior guard Javon Freeman with 17 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Myles Baker had 16 points and four rebounds. Senior guard and Xavier Castaneda had 14 points.

Mario McKinney is just a high school junior at Vashon High School (St Louis), but he played like the biggest star on display at the annual Chicago Elite Classic (UIC Pavillion).
Hosted by Chicago powerhouse basketball programs Simeon and Whitney Young HS, teams from across the nation play Chicago's top teams over 2 days.
Missouri state champs Vashon faced Illinois 4A state champs Whitney Young. Young is led by athletic wing, Javon Freeman (Valparaiso). The Dolphins started their season 6-0.
Smaller at every position, Vashon scrapped for rebounds and loose balls. In the end, Mario McKinney finished with 32 points )15 in 4th quarter), 9 rebounds in Vashon's 80-74 win.
Vashon sophomore Cam'Ron Fletcher finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds!
Javon Freeman scored 22 points and Myles Baker added 18 and Keenan Jones scored 12 for Whitney Young.

Whitney Young (selective enrollment Chicago Public High School) opened their basketball season 5-0. The defending Illinois 4A (large school division) Champs are looking to repeat. They're led by Valpo commit Javon Freeman (Nephew of Marcus Liberty). Freeman, an athletic wing, has clearly been the team's most productive scorer so far this season. He's a legit Chicag-area Player of the Year contender and an Illinois Mr Basketball darkhorse contender.
The 1st annual Like Mike Invitation (Jordan Brand/Gatorade event) was held at Navy Pier's ballroom in downtown Chicago. Whitney Young faced Fenwick, an elite Catholic school from neighboring Oak Park, IL. Last season's 3A state runners-up, Fenwick started this season 3-1.
Fenwick is led by star-in-the-making 2020 DJ Steward. The crafty, long, lean wing has a scorer's mentality.
Freeman is surrounded by multiple future d1 players at Young like Xavier Castaneda (USF). Fenwick may not have the star power, but they are battle-tested.
In the end, Whitney Young eeked out a 74-73 victory over Fenwick. Javon Freeman finished with 35 points unofficially and DJ Steward scored 31 points.
It's still too early in the season to make any judgements but the debate will continue... Who's better at basketball? Public Schools or Private Schools?

Simeon vs Whitney Young: Chicago Public League Powerhouses Collide!

Arguably the 2 highest profile Public League high school teams in Chicago (and perhaps the nation), Simeon and Whitney Young renewed their rivalry at the UIC Pavilion just before the holidays.
There are no more Jahlil Okafor and Jabari Parker battles (both won Illinois state titles), but there's still quality, hard-fought basketball.
Nationally-ranked, undefeated Simeon held off top ten Chicago team Whitney Young 59-52. In the end it was Simeon's 6'5 reserve Madison Lowery, better known as a baseball player, whose 17 rebounds were the difference in the game.
Simeon's do-everything, breakout junior Talen Horton-Tucket scored 17 points and junior guard Kezo Brown finished with 13. Tied at 44, it was Lowery, Horton-Tucker and Brown who took over.
Young's junior PG Xavier Castaneda led the Dophins with 16 points and transfer Javon Freeman scored 12 off the bench. Young's breakout senior Lucas Williamson finished with 11 points.
