]]>The post Jeremy Lin Responds To Kenyon Martin's "Wanna Be Black" Comments, Asks Fans Not To Pit Them Against Each Other appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>On Thursday night, Jeremy Lin scored a team-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the Nets 107-88 win over the Heat. The story of the game wasn't Lin's performance or the team's second win, but his latest hairstyle and comments made by former Net Kenyon Martin on Lin's decision to wear dreadlocks.
It all started with Lin penning a piece in the Players' Tribune about why he constantly changes his hair. The always quotable Martin posted a video with the following comments about Lin's latest choice.
"Do I need to remind this damn boy that his last name Lin? Like, come on man. Let's stop this, man, with these people, man. There is no way possible that he would have made it on one of our teams with that bullshit going on on his head. Come on man, somebody need to tell him, like, 'All right bro, we get it. We get it. You wanna be black.' Like, we get it. But the last name is Lin. Alright."
Angered fans of Linsanity were hoping for returned shots. Instead, Lin responded with compliments.
"Hey man, it's all good. You definitely don't have to like my hair and definitely entitled to your opinion. Actually I'm legit grateful you sharin it TBH. At the end of the day, I appreciate that I have dreads and you have Chinese tattoos because I think its a sign of respect. And I think as minorities, the more that we appreciate each other's cultures, the more we influence mainstream society. Thanks for everything you did for the Nets and hoops ... had your poster up on my wall growin up."
Martin responded with another video, claiming his original comments were a joke and that he really does not give a damn about what anyone has to say about it.
"Take y'all comments to the bank and see what they give y'all for them. But that man grown, that man can rock whatever hairstyle he want to rock. That don't mean I have to like it or agree with it. Second of all. I'm grown. I can say whatever I want to say about whatever I want to say. Ain't about race. Ain't about none of that. Grow up people, it was a joke, but I don't like it, don't agree with it, but it is what it is."
After the Nets game, Lin discussed Martin's comments and asked fans not to pit them against each other or attack Martin.

"First I'd hope that a lot of Asian fans don’t go on his page and say racist things to him,” Lin said. “I think that’s not the right way to go about it. In a lot of ways to pit us against each other, like, 'I won versus Kenyon Martin winning.' I don’t think that’s the right way to go about it. It’s not really about winning or losing. The whole point is we’re trying to be unified so I feel like even sometimes when people come to me and say, 'Oh man you embarassed him.' It's like 'dude that's not what this is about.' Right, that's not the whole point of this discussion to pit it into two sides to see who wins. The whole point is that we all have to get on the same page. We need to have people stop going on his page and saying racist things. That's not OK.
We just need to spend a little more time thinking about what we sy, thinking about what it's like to be somebody else. At the end of the day he said what he said, but I'm not really that offended. If that's how he thinks, that's how he thinks. My job is to be gracious and loving. I think if I can share a little bit of my side, then the next time he might have a different viewpoint. But not if my whole fanbase comes behind and calling him -- I didn't see it -- but I heard people were saying the 'n' word on his page. That's not what I stand for and that's not helping us move in the direction we want to move in. I think both sides need to come together.
If Asians are able to be passionate about issues that aren't just related to Asians. If African Americans are able to be passionate about issues that aren't just related to African Americans, I think we'll see something big start to happen. I think we'll be able to influence mainstream society and that's the ultimate goal. All this pitting me against him -- or whatever that creates division I don't stand for."

]]>The post Kenyon Martin Explains Why He's Team Kobe Instead of LeBron appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>The always quotable Kenyon Martin paid a visit to Undisputed on Monday and weighed in on Michael Jordan's "five beats three (Kobe over LeBron)" statement. As expected, the current Big 3 baller, who played for a Nets team that was swept by Kobe's Lakers in the 2002 NBA Finals, said, "Taking nothing away from LeBron, but I'm Team Kobe."
He also said Kobe was the closest thing to Jordan because of that "(Mamba) mentality."
This isn't the first time Martin has given high praise to Kobe. Earlier in the year, this is what the former #1 pick had to say about Bryant via The Players Tribune.
“People can say whatever they want about Kobe, but Kobe don’t take no shit from nobody. Kobe would fight you in a minute. He would. That’s something I think a lot of fans didn’t know. People think of Kobe for all that skillful basketball stuff, but not for the fact that, if you stepped up to him, he’d fight back. Or if you clubbed him or hit him, he’d make you pay.
That’s ’cause Mamba would literally take your head off to win the game, man. He’d fuck you up. There’s a lot of trash talking on the court, but nobody ever said shit to Kobe.”
My favorite recent quote from Kenyon came this past weekend at the Big 3 stop in Dallas. I asked a bunch of the former NBA players if they thought current players took their 2K ratings too seriously and his response was "It's weak. It's wack."

]]>My second favorite story about Kenyon Martin aka The Oak Cliff Bully is the one about him threatening to kill every member of the Denver Nuggets after a popcorn in the car prank. JR Smith and a ball boy turned out to be the pranksters and Martin's former teammate Chauncey Billups stepped in and "saved Smith's life."
As a guest on ESPN's Highly Questionable, the Big3 league captain shared his version of the amusing story.
And here’s an amusing clip with an annoyed Martin telling an annoying member of the media he needs to talk to JR if he wants to know about JR because he and the team are fine with him.
As for my favorite Martin story, it's the one about him and his beef with Tim Thomas.

]]>He's outta his damn mind! Stop it! Stop it!
That's former #1 NBA draft pick and All-Star Kenyon Martin aka The Oak Cliff Bully responding to recent comments by LaVar Ball - father of the Ball Bros (UCLA's Lonzo & Chino Hills LaMelo and LiAngelo) and owner of Big Baller Brand clothing - saying his son, Lonzo, is better than Steph Curry...right now!
“I have the utmost confidence in what my boy is doing." Said LaVar during a recent UCLA game. "He’s better than Steph Curry to me. Put Steph Curry on UCLA’s team right now and put my boy on Golden State and watch what happens.”
LaVar also generated some recent buzz when he told TMZ playing basketball is going to get "easier" for Lonzo when he gets to the pros since the game is faster and "that's when he's at his best."
Arguably the leagues fastest player, John Wall, also recently talked to TMZ about LaVar's comments about Lonzo and how well he will do in the NBA.
"He's putting a lot of pressure on his kid and when rookies come into the league, a lot of players are trying to make a statement and let him know how the league is." Said Wall. "He just added fuel to the fire when he plays Steph Curry or play any other point guard after he gets drafted."
Lonzo is projected to be a top three pick in the 2017 NBA draft.

]]>In honor of Kenyon Martin aka The Oak Cliff Bully's birthday today, I'm going to show some of the most amusing moments of him punishing NBA defenders. And when I say punish, I'm not talking about punishment via one of his countless vicious poster dunks or blocks in the 5th row, I'm talking about him slapping, punching and choking opposing players who didn't realize who they were messing with.
If the YouTube video was still up, I would be sharing a hilarious "Highly Questionable" video of Chauncey Billups talking about the time he "saved JR Smith's life" when a pissed-off Martin was looking to "put some hands" on a person behind a prank. Instead, I'll start this off with some quotes from Martin when he was accused by Tim Thomas of being "fugazi."
"It's hilarious. I feel privileged he's spending time thinking about me. The question to me is how I'm not a tough guy. You take a poll around the league, I'm pretty sure if you ask people who they want on their team, they're not going to say Tim Thomas. My teammates have never questioned how hard I play and in Milwaukee they questioned him. People know what they're going to get out of me every time I step on the floor, I'm not like Pandora's Box. Like if you open it up you don't know what you're going to get, that's him. Like somebody said, he's a career underachiever. He ain't done nothing in his career. I've been to the Finals twice. We came up a little short, but I've won games. Everywhere he's gone, he's been questioned. I mean he should be worrying about his home fans more than he should be worrying about me. I haven't gotten booed yet, either. They booed him when he first got to New York. So he should be worried about his home fans first before worrying about Kenyon. He's talking about calling Don King, Lock me and him in a room together and see who's going to come out."
With that said, let's take a look at him giving Corey Maggette an uppercut punch he probably wishes he could give George Karl right now.
And here's K-Mart showing how to foul a player and make sure he doesn't get an and-1.

]]>1 week after saying goodbye to AK-47, we have to say good bye to the Oak Cliff Bully Kenyon Martin. After 15 seasons, the former #1 pick of the New Jersey Nets is hanging up the sneakers.
“It’s been a great 15 years,” Martin, 37, said to Yahoo. “Thanks to all the fans that supported me over the years. But a time does come when you have to walk away, and the time is now for me. I’m ready for the next chapter of my life. I would like to thank the Nets, Nuggets, Clippers, Knicks and Bucks for the opportunity to play the game that I love. [...] It’s been real. Thanks for the love.”
I have a lot of great memories of Kenyon going back to his killing the rim Cincinnati days but my favorite memory is when he wanted to kill his Denver teammates after they filled his brand new car with a bunch of buttered popcorn. Here's a sound recording of Kenyon coming into the locker room and threatening whoever did it.
Here's Chauncey Billups on "Highly Questionable" telling some funny stories about Kenyon including the story about the prank and revealing it was JR Smith's life he saved.
It was only right that Billups help Smith since Smith was willing to give up his number to Billups when he joined the team.
And here's an annoyed Martin telling an annoying member of the media he needs to talk to JR if he wants to know about JR because he and the team are fine with him.
I'm going to miss this "bad ass yellow boy."
