King James has done it all and now he's joined a club all by himself.

LeBron James has now entered an exclusive group, surpassing 40,000 career points. The reigning king of basketball, James becomes the first to achieve this milestone, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 38,387 points. Among a roster of elite basketball players, LeBron sits at the pinnacle, unmatched. It's truly the most astonishing record i've seen throughout my lifetime in sports. And that doesn't include the 8,023 points he's scored in the playoffs.

After his bucket, Laker nation celebrated LeBron and the moment in a time out. Grateful for the fans, the former Cavalier recognized how special it is.

"Being the first player to do something is pretty cool in this league", said James (NBA).

What an incredible feat, reaching 40,017 points. Since he was just 18 years old, LeBron has played in 1,475 career games, totaling 55,988 minutes, with 10,847 assists, and 11,046 rebounds. Even after playing over 55,000 minutes, the Lakers star continues to perform at a level reminiscent of his mid-twenties.

Although 40,000 is a heck of a lot of points, LeBron said "I was that on no kid. He emphasized the weight of expectations he faced at just 18 years old, acknowledging the pressure and scrutiny from those who hoped for his failure.

Just a few days after the big accomplishment, James was named Western Conference player of the week. Through week 19, James averaged 30.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 8.7 assists on 50 percent three-point shooting.

James has never missed an entire season in his career

While LeBron's achievement is undoubtedly remarkable, his durability stands out as his greatest attribute. Throughout his career, he has consistently been able to maintain a high level of performance despite the wear and tear of the game. LeBron managed to play in 74 games during 13 out of his first 15 NBA seasons. Remarkably, he has never missed an entire season due to injury, showcasing his remarkable resilience and commitment to the game.

Not many athletes can claim such durability. After setting the record with his 20th All-Star appearance, LeBron's game count began to decline only after he joined the Lakers. Nonetheless, this season, he has appeared in 54 games, averaging an impressive 35.1 minutes per game. The remarkable physical condition and high level of basketball he continues to demonstrate are truly extraordinary.

James, 39, is in his 21st NBA season. The oldest active player in the NBA, LeBron was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers no. 1 overall in the 2003 draft. Throughout his career, he's played for the Cavaliers, Miami Heat, now the Los Angeles Lakers. The all-time leader in NBA points scored, the King has several personal and team accolades.

LeBron, a four-time NBA champion, four-time Finals MVP, four-time MVP, olympic gold medalist, and a 20-time All-Star, has lived up to his reputation as a generational talent since his 2003 debut.

As I forecasted on episode six of the Cook it and Book it Podcast, LeBron James reached his 40,000th point in classic LeBron style. With just over 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter, the King isolated Michael Porter Jr., executing a drive and spin move for a layup. Despite his recent success from beyond the arc, shooting at an impressive 51.1% over the past ten games, LeBron's athleticism and drives to the basket have always been his trademark.

LeBron James daughter was present for the Lakers "girl dad" night

As LeBron returned to play defense, the crowd erupted in excitement, with his wife Savannah, mother Gloria, and daughter Zhuri all in attendance. Being an Akron native, LeBron expressed how meaningful it was to have his daughter there, emphasizing his pride in being a "girl dad."

"It's definitely special," said LeBron post game. "When I looked up there in the stands and seen her sitting up there and when the 40,000-point mark hit, definitely looked up there at my wife, looked at my daughter, my mom, and my daughter was just clapping and pumping her arms up in the air so that was a super cool moment."(NBA YouTube).

And on the Lakers first official girl dad night, LeBron was able to share a moment with his daughter immediately after he surpasses 40,000 points. With the special occasion, LeBron was able to share the moment up close and personal with his loved ones.

"Blew her a kiss, she blew one back to me," said James. "That's super cool for sure. Definitely a girl dad, and happy she's a part of the family. She runs everything, so what Z says goes." (NBA YouTube)

While it was a momentous occasion for LeBron James, it was also bittersweet as the Lakers suffered a defeat to the Nuggets, losing 124-114 on their home court. Despite LeBron's milestone, the Lakers' overall record stands at 33-29, placing them at the 10th position in the Western Conference. Losing a game after such a significant achievement is undoubtedly disappointing, regardless of the opponent.

And to make it worse, the Lakers were swept 4-0 by the Nuggets in last year's western conference finals. With the loss on Saturday, James led with a team high 26 points, 3 steals, 9 assists, and four rebounds. He finished the night on 12-20 from the floor. After maintaining a first half lead, the Nuggets were simply too much for the Lakers, outscoring them 67-48 in the second half. Not only did Denver dominate on the boards, but they had 64 points in the paint.

With this achievement, LeBron James has now exceeded some of the greatest players in basketball history, such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan. In a class by himself, James gave some insight how he achieved 40k points, and whether he can see any current athlete surpassing him.

LeBron credits durability and longevity to hitting this major milestone

MIAMI, FL - FEBRUARY 27: LeBron James #6 of the Miami Heat wears a mask to begin the game against the New York Knicks at AmericanAirlines Arena on February 27, 2014 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Marc Serota/Getty Images)

From the way LeBron James talks about it, he attributes his longevity and durability to his ability to play at such a high level for so long.

"Obviously you have to play the game quite a while and have some good luck as far injuries and things of that nature," James told the media. "You have to take care of your body, you have to be present on the floor. Then you have to be productive as well. Obviously we have a lot of great guys in our league that can score the ball. If they were able to stay healthy and they were to play a long time, then they can eclipse it." (NBA)

Just last February, James passed Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA all-time scoring leader in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

While LeBron James continues to be the face of the NBA, there has been considerable speculation about who will assume that role once he retires. Names like Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Jayson Tatum have emerged as potential successors to carry the torch for the league.

At the end of the day, LeBron was very fortunate for good influences despite hardships growing up. While James had a "great head on his shoulders," he thanked his mother and little league coaches for raising him the right way. He also adds his friends accountability and support from his now wife, Savannah kept him on the straight and narrow.

On Episode 180 of the Ballislife hosts Ronnie Flores, Ani Umana and Chelsea Hopkins go hard on the one-year plan that was hatched for the late, great Kobe Bryant to turn pro out of high school with special guest Gary Charles, who was part of the small circle that knew of the plans for the 17-year wunderkind from Lower Merion High School (Ardmore, Pa.).

Charles spends 40 minutes detailing the plan to get Kobe from Lower Merion to the NBA, even though he was a wing guard and academically eligible for any college in the country. That was unheard of at the time. Charles goes "In The Paint" on meeting Kobe through his father Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, what Kobe was like as a rising junior at ABCD Camp, the keys to hatching the plan for him to turn pro, and the occurrences that could have foiled Team Bryant's plan to keep him from Nike and keep other NBA teams drafting higher than Charlotte from realizing he should be their pick.

What would have happened in Lower Merion would have traveled to Los Angeles in January '96 for a MLK Showcase game vs. Schea Cotton and St John Bosco? Was taking R & B singer Brandy to the prom potentially worrisome? What if Tim Thomas would have went straight pro out of high school instead of going to Villanova? What if the New Jersey Nets would have went for Kobe at No. 8 instead of Kerry Kittles?

Charles, a longtime grassroots basketball coach and event director, also gives some insight on a Plan B if the Charlotte move didn't happen and what transpired leading up to draft day.

The ITP crew then close this special episode with their reactions to the interview and some media references helpful to learn more background information on Kobe's unique path. Kobe's prep-to-pro journey hasn't been told in this manner, so make sure to tune in to Episode 180 from start to finish! (The episode is time-stamped below for easy listening)

It almost feels like yesterday when LeBron James left Cleveland for the second time to become a Los Angeles Laker. Six years later, at age 39, James' is still playing great basketball.

However, when he eventually calls it a career, we'll most likely look back at his time in Los Angeles as wasted potential.

But the Lakers' shortcomings have nothing to do with the King's play. Instead, roster mismanagement by the front office possibly threw away multiple championships.

James' tenure with the purple and gold isn't nearly a failure. The Lakers' 2020 championship says so.

That Bubble lineup was special. The group finished as the top seed in the Western Conference and only lost five games on the way to the Larry O'Brien Trophy. In the following preseason, they were the clear favorite to repeat.

Unfortunately, that ring is pushing five years old, and the franchise hasn't returned to the big stage. So, what happened in the next four seasons that prevented another run?

Coming off a shortened 2020 offseason, the Lakers were poised to go back-to-back. They started 21-6, featuring the best defense in the league. But the injury bug got to Davis and James, dropping the team in the standings. Fortunately, the duo returned to good enough health at the right time, closing the regular season with five straight wins.

After defeating Golden State in the Play-In Tournament, L.A. had the eventual West champs, Phoenix, up 2-1. But Davis went down, and the Suns took the series in six games.

If the history books had to mark when the Lakers' title window started to close, the 2021 offseason would be the obvious choice.

The Lakers panicked that summer. After the AD injury, the front office disliked the lack of competitiveness in the postseason. So, management looked to make a splash move for a star to provide greater support when there are injuries.

General manager Rob Pelinka's focus was to upgrade from Kyle Kuzma. The forward left a bad taste in fans' mouths when he couldn't step up in Davis' absence.

However, the organization made a franchise-altering move by trading Kuzma for the worst star to pair with Davis and James: Russell Westbrook.

Reportedly, L.A. had deals lined up for other big-name players, but pressure from James forced the Westbrook move. However, Pelinka is the general manager and vice president of basketball operations. He has the final say in trade matters. He should've understood Westbrook was a bad fit with the two duo, especially concerning floor spacing.

Russ' time as a Laker was disastrous. The team had a 56-74 record with him. Of course, the duo missing time didn't help, but Westbrook was one of the worst three-point shooters in the league. Missing the postseason in 2022 was a far cry from their conference dominance just two seasons prior.

The organization has spent every last resource undoing the Westbrook trade in the last year. At the 2023 deadline, they shipped Russ out in a?three-team deal?to save that season.?

Pelinka has done a decent job rebuilding an adequate supporting cast around the duo. However, he has neglected the lack of 3&D talent on the roster for years.

As a result of bringing Russ in, the Lakers forfeited essential 3&D wings from the 2020 championship. The luxury of having players like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who can hit threes consistently and guard at the point of attack, is vital to winning championships. This type of athlete is the best to put around Davis and James to maximize winning.

Possessing a talent like Alex Caruso comes with a price. But L.A.'s front office has been left with nothing but pennies and low-end draft capital to replace that skillset. And the defense has suffered dramatically.

This season's trade deadline allowed the organization to acquire a quality 3&D starter. The roster is filled with guys who can shoot or defend, no in-between for 30 minutes a night. Especially with Jarred Vanderbilt's health in question, the team has no answer for containing opposing permitter threats.

To everyone's surprise, the Lakers stayed put. Pelinka believed any available move at the deadline wasn't worth giving up the little assets they had. Instead, the organization plans to push for?a star player via trade in the offseason.?

L.A. didn't 'punt' on the season per se, but whatever improvements to be made in the coming offseason wouldn't be as impactful as Pelinka may think. James and Davis can't afford to wait till next season.

James turns 40 years old next season in December. It would be hard to compete for a championship when one of your most important pieces is at that age.

And for Davis, he's playing his best ball as a Laker. There's no guarantee he will continue to be this healthy next season. They needed Pelinka to go all in at the deadline to inch the team closer to contention when their window is still cracked.

The Lakers did do at least something recently. A few days after the deadline, the Lakers picked up former Brooklyn Net guard Spencer Dinwiddie fresh off the buyout market. Dinwiddie's not a bad player by any means. He can add scoring value off the bench.

But Pelinka's decision to wait and sign him instead of attacking the deadline is another example of him falling in love with castaway cheap ball handlers instead of solid 3&D rotational pieces.

It's absolutely inexcusable that the Lakers have been playing around .500 basketball since 2021. Champion contention should be consistent when an organization has two top 10 players.

James' L.A. arc isn't a failure. Unfortunately, the Lakers mismanaged the LeBron era by prioritized the wrong type of supporting cast around him when the 2020 championship laid out a blueprint.

It's mind-blowing to think that ever since LeBron James walked across the NBA draft stage 20 years ago, he's always been his team's best player. He turns 39 in a little over a month. Many people predicted that 2023 would be when he finally hands the Los Angeles Lakers' keys over to teammate Anthony Davis. However, in the first 13 games of the season, the King surprisingly still wears his crown.

Davis is a confusing talent. The league's blocks-per-game leader (3.3) is by far the best defender on the planet. Plus, he ranks first in many offensive metrics from the post. If you were to count on your fingers the number of players better than him when he's on, you would have many fingers left. Most would say the big man is better than James at their best.

Unfortunately, AD's offensive production is more up and down than a roller coaster. In the Lakers' first meeting with the Sacramento Kings, the former Kentucky Wildcat scored 30 points and hauled 16 rebounds. In the second match, he failed to score double-digit points or boards.

The Lakers extended Davis through the 2027-28 season with the richest annual salary for a reason: to take the number one option role from James. However, Davis' unpredictable production has forced the Lakers to continue to rely on James despite his age.

Father Time must have made an exception for James. He is averaging 26.4/8.2/6.5 on a ridiculous 58.6/39.7/69.1 shooting split. Davis has some catching up if he wants to be the man. 22/11.7/3.3 on 53/30/86.3 shooting splits is great, but not enough to be the best player on the Lakers.

Everyone agreed that James would still be Lakers' best distributor. But not many foresaw him continuing as the LakeShow's primary scorer at 38 years old. In last night's 105-104 win against the Houston Rockets, James dropped a season-high 37 points on an extremely efficient 74 FG%. Davis's 27 points was the game's 2nd-highest scorer, but foul trouble removed him from big spots.

The offensive gap between the duo was more apparent in last Friday's 107-95 win in Portland. James tallied 35 points, doubling Davis' 16.

Can you believe that James has scored 28 points or more six times this month? What you actually can't believe is that Davis has failed to score more than 20 points five times this month. The Brow plays exceptional defense and is capable of star-level offense, but James never reaches the same offensive lows as his partner. The Lakers know what to expect from James on a nightly basis, but crosses its' fingers with the big man.

The Lakers' early season story has been that the squad is not even functional when James is off the court. He had a 25.6 +/- net per 100 possessions in his first 12 games. Without the King on the floor, the Laker offense cannot move the ball in the half-court or push in transition.

It's not like the Lakers don't have the personnel to be fine without James running the show. But Davis' inconsistent offensive aggression begs the opponent to go on a run. James subbed out with 4:29 left in the first quarter while up 13 points in Portland. The Blazers looked utterly outmatched but found life on a 15-4 run in following six minutes. Davis was scoreless during the attack.

What ultimately separates James from Davis is James' ability to close games. The Clutch Player of the Year award could find its way amongst James' stacked trophy case because he's been the king of the fourth quarter. He's averaging a league-leading 9.2 points per fourth quarter on 66.1 FG%.

In the Lakers' last two contests, the team needed to pull away in final quarter with Davis on the bench in foul trouble. That might have been a problem for most players, but not for James.

James scored 14 fourth-quarter points against the Rockets, including the game-winning free throw. Davis put up a donut hole in the quarter's points column.

To close out the Blazers, James put on an offensive masterclass. No one in the building could stop the man from scoring or assisting on 23 of 25 Laker points in the 4th. Flashbacks had to have hit Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups. James scored the Cleveland Cavaliers' last 25 points to win Game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals against Billups' Detroit Pistons. 16 years later, James still owns the final quarter.

On Tuesday, the Lakers host the 4-9 Utah Jazz. The opportunity is there for Davis to silence his haters by proving some consistency. A 30-point and 12-rebound game would be ideal. But another underwhelming offensive night would further prove why LeBron is still the Lakers' best player.

Also, The Boston Celtics currently have the least odds of winning the NBA Championship. The Series is tied 1-1, and Game 3 will be at the Lakers home turf. These two teams will play on 5/6 at 8:30 PM EST, at Crypto.com Arena, located in Los Angeles, California. The matchup will air on ABC. If you are looking for the best betting odds and stats, here is information to know:

NBA Championship Odds: Eastern Conference.

*Odds as of 5/6. *

Golden State Warriors: +600.

Los Angeles Lakers: +600.

NBA Western Conference Semifinals.

GAME 1: Los Angeles Lakers 117 @ Golden State Warriors 112

Betting Odds: Golden State (-4.5), Over/Under 227.
Betting Results: Lakers ML, Lakers +4.5, OVER: 229.

The Golden State Warriors had everything in their favor before the start of the Game. They were favored by -4.5 and were playing at home. Instead, the Lakers made a statement in Game 1. For the Lakers, Anthony Davis showed why he could be the guy. Davis put up an impressive 30 Points, and 23 Rebounds. Although LeBron struggled from the field, D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Dennis Schr?der all added Points in double figures. The Lakers struggled from the Three-Point range as a team, however, they shot better from the field. The Lakers dominated in rebounds, points inside the paint, and the Warriors had 24 fouls.

For the Warriors, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combined for a total of 52 Points, and Wiggins added 15. Jordan Poole added in an additional 21 Points off the bench. It’s important to note Center Kevin Looney had a double-double, with 23 Rebounds, and 10 Points. As a team, the Warriors struggled from the field. They got outrebounded, led in fouls, and dominated in points scored in the paint.

Does LeBron James have to do it all against Steph Curry? Not anymore. If anything, Davis can stay healthy, this is the type of player he is. The Lakers didn’t have to unleash Hachimura and had other players that stepped up.
With less than 10 seconds to go, Jordan Poole took a game tying three from about 30 feet. Unfortunately he missed, and the Warriors lost the Game. There was speculation whether Poole had more time or should’ve swung the ball with that much time to go.

GAME 2: Los Angeles Lakers @ Golden State Warriors (Home).

Betting Odds: Golden State (-7), Over/Under 226.5.
Betting Results: Golden State ML, Golden State -732, OVER: 227.

The Golden State Warriors took Game 2 at home, in large part due to their big second and third quarters. The Warriors outscored the Lakers 41-23 in the Second Quarter, and 43-24 in the third quarter. For Golden State, the “Splash Brothers” did not disappoint. Guard Klay Thompson scored 30 Points and shot 8-11 from the Three. In addition, Steph Curry added 20 Points, 12 Assists on 7-12 shooting. Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, Jamychal Green, and Moses Moddy all added Points in double figures.

Although the Warriors had 16 turnovers, something they’ve struggled with all seasons, they shot 50 Percent from the Field and the Three. Golden State did an excellent job of outrebounding the Lakers, especially on the defensive end, had more fast break points, and points in the paint.

Besides Hachimura, this Lakers team struggled top to bottom of the rotation. As a team, The Lakers shot 29 Percent from the Three, and Anthony Davis was held to only 6 Rebounds. Although Los Angles started off hot, they couldn’t buy a shot in the next two quarters. LeBron James shot 3-8 from the Three, and much of the Lakers bench struggled as well. In conclusion, the Lakers team was lifeless after the first quarter.

Playoffs Recap.

Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors found themselves down 0-2 against the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Playoffs First Round. They rallied to win the next two games and forced a Game 7 on the road. Not only did the Warriors take Game 7 on the road against the Kings, but they also have a horrendous record in away games this season. In Game 7, star Guard Steph Curry added 50 Points. Throughout this series, we saw terrible shooting, turnovers, ejections, and brilliant game play by Steph Curry.? The Warriors are currently tied with the Los Angeles Lakers 1-1 in the Western Conference Semifinals and look to take a lead tonight.

In the Post Season, Golden State ranks 4th in Points Per Game (116.3), 8th in Three-Point Shooting (35.6), 12th in Free-Throw Percentage (74.2), 3rd in Rebounds (47.7) 1st in Assists (28.6), and 12th in turnovers (13.2).

On the defensive side, the Warriors rank 9h in Opponent Points Per Game (112.6), 11th in Steals (7.4), and 9th in Blocks (4.8).? If the Warriors want to win, they must put the ball in the hands of Steph Curry, play well from the perimeter, and step up on defense, something they struggled with all season long.

Strengths

The Splash Brothers, Three-Point Capability, Chemistry.

The “Splash Brothers” Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are two of the best shooters the NBA will ever see. Thompson came back from injury this season and struggled to find his old form. However, that has not been the case in the playoffs. Both Curry and Thompson are lethal from the three, and two of the best off-ball shooters in the league. In addition, Steph Curry is excellent at creating his own shots, and moving around screens.

In the Postseason, Thompson is averaging 22.1 Points, 2.2 Assists, and 3.7 Rebounds. He’s shooting an impressive 40 percent from Three-Point Range. At age 35, Steph Curry is averaging 31.4 Points, 5.4 Assists, and 4.9 in the Playoffs. He’s shooting 48.6 Percent from the Field and 39.8 Percent from the three. Look for the Warriors to put the ball in the hands of these two players if they want to win.

Golden State may be only shooting 35 Percent from downtown, however, this is a team that has incredible potential from downtown. When the Warriors are hot, they have at least 5 players that can knock down the three-point shot. In Game 2 against the Lakers, Golden State shot 50 Percent from downtown, and Curry and Thompson went a combined 11-16 from the Three. The Warriors have always been a three or bust team, so keep an eye on their shooting percentages.

This is a Warriors Team that has chemistry and has experience together in the Playoffs. Both Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Head Coach Steve Kerr have 4 NBA Championships in almost a decade and made 7 Playoff appearances. The Golden State Warriors beat the Celtics last year, in large part due to their chemistry. From the coaching to the players, don’t ever count out the Warriors.

Weaknesses.

Lack of consistency in shooting and depth, Turnovers, Defense.

When the Warriors are hot, they are hot. However, they barely shot over 30 Percent from the Three in the first round of the NBA Playoffs against the Kings. Although Steph Curry is a staple for this team, the players around him have been inconsistent. One Game, the Warriors shot 50 Percent from downtown, and the next they are shooting 39 Percent. In Game 1 against the Lakers, Curry and Thompson combined for 12-29 on Three-Point Shooting.

The Warriors have bench players in Jordan Poole, Moses Moody, Gary Payton II, Jamychal Green, and Donte Divincenzo. However, their play and their minutes have been inconsistent, which matters when Curry or Thompson struggles. I think the warriors have a talented bench, however, it’s hard to tell who will get minutes night to night.

Golden State struggled defensively and created turnovers for most of the season. In fact, both Golden State and the Sacramento Kings ranked bottom tier in opponent point per game scored. The Warriors had a game high 23 turnovers in Game 2, and will need to limit them, and play tight defense on the Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers won the first round series against the Memphis Grizzlies 4-2. Although their Three-Point shooting was underwhelming, the Lakers outrebounded Memphis, came out with key blocks, and shot better from the field.
Los Angeles currently is tied 1-1 with the Golden State Warriors in Round 2 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals.

As we’ve learned, LeBron has help this time around, and the key around this team is Anthony Davis.
In the Post Season, Los Angeles ranks 13th in Points Per Game (99.8), 16th in Three-Point Shooting (26.8), 14th in Free-Throw Percentage (73.5), 6th in Rebounds (45.3), 16th in Assists (25.3), and 8th in turnovers (12.8).

On the defensive side, the Lakers rank 2nd in Opponent Points Per Game (96.5), 1st in Steals (9.3), and 7th in Blocks (4.5).

Strengths

Size, Rebounding, Role Players.

The Lakers have more size and physicality when it comes to their matchup against the Warriors. As we saw in Game 1, Los Angeles was able to overcome Golden States Threes and attack them down below. Anthony Davis had an incredible game, adding 30 points and over 20 Rebounds. Los Angeles ranks first in blocks, in which Davis had a key block against Curry in the first game. Although Kevin Looney can grab boards down below, AD will be the key when it comes to rebounds.

LeBron has help this time around, and he doesn’t need to do everything himself. If Anthony Davis is on his game, it makes it easier for the entire team. In addition, when Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell carry the ball, it helps take pressure off LeBron. Rui Hachimura, Malik Beasley, Dennis Schroder, Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Jarred Vanderbilt can all contribute to the team. Vanderbilt will be important, especially when matched up against Curry. The Lakers Bench added 43 points in Game 2.

Weakness

Three-Point shooting, Perimeter Defense, AD Inconsistency.

The Lakers currently rank 15th in Three Point Percentage in the playoffs, and this is one of their biggest weaknesses. Los Angeles shot only 31 Percent from the Three in their series against Memphis and are shooting 27 Percent against the Warriors. Given the Warriors are a very good team beyond the arc at times, the Lakers will need to match that, or beat them down below.

The Lakers have trouble defending the perimeter, and the Warriors are shooting 44.2 Percent from the Three this series. The key to this series will be to contain Curry and Thompson and make them force tough shots. However, it always seems Curry makes a good portion of hard shots.

The Key to the Lakers this series will be big man Anthony Davis. Davis had a monstrous first game, adding 30 Points, and 23 rebounds. He struggled in Game 2, only adding 11 Points and 7 Rebounds. Davis had key blocks and had 7 blocks in the last two games. When Anthony Davis can’t get around screens, he is forced to guard the Perimeter, leaving Golden State with the rebound. Anthony Davis’s performance will dictate how this team does the rest of the playoffs.

LAST 10 GAMES + GAME PREDICTION

?SPREAD: Lakers -3

-Golden State covered the spread in 5 of their last 10 games.

-Los Angeles covered the spread in 5 of their last 10 games.

-Golden State has a 43-47-1 record ATS this season.

-Los Angeles has a 45-45-1 record ATS this season.

-Los Angeles is 24-21-0 in HOME games ATS this season.

-Golden State is 13-31-0 in AWAY games ATS this season.

Golden State is on the road, and they have a 13-31 record against the spread in away games. The Warriors shot very well as a team, and I think the Lakers will challenge them, especially at home. I think this game will be close, however, give me the Lakers -3 here.

MONEY LINE: Lakers ML

-Golden State won the Money Line 6 out of their last 10 games.

-Los Angeles won the Money Line 7 of their last 10 games.

The Warriors are coming off a Game 2 win that wasn’t even close. They are a terrible team on the road, and the Lakers will be hungry this game. I think the Lakers play better all-around and hit their shots. Give me Lakers Money Line.

OVER/UNDER: OVER

-Golden State Avg +/- vs O/U Line: +1.77.

-Los Angeles Avg +/- vs O/U Line: +0.8.

-Golden State Overall O/U Record: 49-39-3.

-Los Angeles O/U Record: 48-43-0.

-Golden State hit the OVER 6 times in their last 10 games.

-Los Angeles hit the OVER 5 times in their last 10 games.

Game 2 hit the over, and that was limited defense coming from the Los Angeles Lakers. I expect Los Angeles to come back to life, especially playing the Warriors at home. If both teams can hit their shots, I expect a shootout here. Give me the over.

The Series is tied 1-1, and Grizzlies star Ja Morant is questionable for the game. These two teams will play tonight at 10 PM EDT, at Crypto.com Arena, located in Los Angeles, California. The matchup will air on ESPN. If you are looking for the best betting odds and stats, here is information to know:

Playoff Matchup

The Series is tied 1-1 between Memphis and Los Angeles.

Game 1: Lakers Defeated the Grizzlies 128-112.

Betting Odds: Memphis (-4.5) Over/Under 228.
Betting Results: Lakers Money Line, Lakers +4.5, OVER.

Game Summary:

By halftime, Memphis had the lead, and outscored the Lakers 38-27 in the 2nd quarter. Not only were the Grizzlies at home, but they had the best home record in the NBA this season. Although Ja Morant played a solid 30 minutes, he left the game in the 4th quarter due to a hand injury.

Although the Grizzlies had control through the first 2 quarters, the Lakers dominated in the 3rd and 4th quarters, thanks to Rui Hachimura. Los Angeles not only shot better from the Field, but they also shot better from the Three-Point Range. This time, they outrebounded Memphis 45-34, and did a great job of scoring off fast break points. For once, it was nice to see LeBron James get some help around him. Anthony Davis had a double-double, and both Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura had the game of their lives. Besides Hachimura scoring 29 off the bench, the Lakers didn’t get much bench help.

Both Dillion Brooks and Desmond Bane shot a combined 5-19 from the Three, and Morant had 6 turnovers himself. Jaren Jackson Jr. was a force on the offensive and defensive end, adding 31 points. Ultimately, Memphis didn’t shoot as efficiently, and got outrebounded. In addition, Memphis lost Ja Morant in the 4th quarter, a player who is not only an efficient scorer, but someone who can attack the rim and make plays.

The Series is tied 1-1 between Memphis and Los Angeles.

Game 2: Grizzlies Defeated the Lakers 103-93.

Betting Odds: Lakers (-1) Over/Under 223.
Betting Results: Grizzlies Money Line, Grizzlies +1, UNDER.

Game Summary:

A little trash talk never hurts anyone in the NBA Playoffs. The Grizzlies opened the series with yet another playoff loss and made sure that didn’t happen this game. In addition, Memphis was without star Ja Morant due to a hand injury. According to the Grizzlies, Morant had a bruised right hand, although x-rays were negative. On the betting side, the Lakers were favored entering this game, especially with Morant out.

Memphis came out aggressive, especially in the 1st quarter, in which they outscored Los Angeles 30-19. They held the Lakers to 27 Percent Three Point Shooting, and 41 Percent from the field. The Grizzlies did an excellent job of outrebounding the Lakers, especially defensively.

Although both teams shot 76.2 percent from the Free-Throw Line, it was the Grizzlies defense and early momentum that spoke for this game. Xavier Tillman had a quiet first game and ended up with a career-high 22 Points in Game 2. In addition, Tillman grabbed 13 boards for the double double. Dillon Brooks was in LeBron’s face all night, forcing him to throw passes in the paint. In addition, there was a tremendous amount of glaring and trash talking from Brooks to James.

Anthony Davis struggled down low, although he had 5 blocks. Davis went 4-14 from the Field and played 38 Minutes. However, Rui Hachimura stepped up later, and LeBron James led the way with 28 Points and 12 Rebounds. It’s important to know guard D’Angelo Russell struggled for the 2nd straight game. Russell shot 2-11 from the Field, and 1-5 from the Three. Besides Hachimura, the Lakers bench only provided 7 points, which is concerning. For the Grizzlies, all their starters had points in double-digits and had 24 points off the bench. Jaren Jackson Jr. worked Anthony Davis all game, had 5 Blocks, 9 Rebounds, and 18 Points. Both Jackson Jr. and Tillman combined for 22 Rebounds. This was a little surprising since the Grizzlies play small at times.

Season Matchup

Lakers are 2-1 vs. The Grizzlies this season.

Betting Odds: Memphis (-7), Over/Under 244.
Betting Results: Lakers Money Line, Lakers +7, UNDER.

Memphis Grizzlies

PG Ja Morant (Questionable): Hand Injury.
C Steven Adams (OUT): Knee.
PF Brandon Clarke (OUT): Left Achilles Tear.

Los Angeles Lakers

PG Dennis Schroder (Probable): Right Achilles Soreness.
PF Anthony Davis (Probable): Right Foot Stress Injury.
SF LeBron James (Probable): Right Foot Soreness.

Key Players

Memphis Grizzlies

Jaren Jackson Jr.

Power Forward Jaren Jackson Jr.? stepped up nicely, given star Ja Morant was out for the game. He has been very much a force on both sides of the basketball. ?In 2 playoff games against the Lakers, Jackson Jr. averages 24.5 Points, 2.5 Blocks, 1 Steal, and is shooting 42.9 percent from the Three, and 54.5 Percent from the Field. Jackson is listed as 6”11 and plays the 5 with Steven Adams out.

Like Game 2, Jackson will be a key matchup against Anthony Davis down low and will look to keep up his offensive numbers. ?Jackson Jr. averaged 18.8 Points, 2.4 Blocks, 6.5 Rebounds, and shot 37.7 percent from the Three on the Road this season.

Desmond Bane

Desmond Bane is another series leader, and a key player for the Grizzlies. In 2 Playoff games against the Lakers, Bane is averaging 19.5 Points, 3.5 Assists, 4.5 Rebounds, and shoots 100 percent from the free-throw line. However, he’s struggled shooting from the Field and the Three-Point.

Bane shot the ball very well on the road this season. He averaged 16.1 Points, and shot 42.6 Percent from the Three, and 46.9 Percent from the field. In 2 regular season games against Los Angeles, Desmond Bane averaged only 13 a game, however, he had almost 2 steals a game. Look for Bane to lock up D’Angelo Russell, who’s been struggling, or Austin Reaves, who could be an X- Factor for the Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James

LeBron James had a tremendous amount of help in Game 1, however, he had to take over in the second game. Although Dillion Brooks plays strong defense on James, LeBron didn’t seem bothered by Brooks play or his comments. If anything, LeBron James has been in the league and postseason long enough to keep his head down and help his team anyway he can.

In 2 Playoff Games against Memphis, LeBron James is averaging 24.5 Points, 1.5 Steals, 2 Blocks, 4 Assists, and 11.5 Rebounds. In addition, he’s shooting 51 percent from the field. However, James continues to struggle from the Three and the Free-Throw line.

In Home Games this season, James averaged 27.7 Points, 7.2 Assists, and 8 Rebounds. He shot 49.4 Percent from the Field, and 33.7 Percent from the Three. LeBron will be a huge X factor tonight, offensively, and defensively. The Key for LeBron will be his three-point shot percentage and free-throw percentage.

Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis is a key part of the Lakers, especially when it comes to rebounds down low. Although Anthony Davis didn’t look himself, and struggled from the field in Game 2, he’s averaging 17.5 Points, 1.5 Steals, 6 Blocks, 3 Assists, and 10.5 Rebounds in 2 Playoff Games against Memphis. In addition, Davis is shooting 100 percent from the Free-Throw Line, 100 percent from the three, and 45 percent from the Field. Anthony Davis also averaged over 12 Rebounds a game, and 2.1 Blocks in Home Games this year.

I expect Anthony Davis to have a bounce back game, especially if the Grizzlies play small. He looked lifeless last game, and the Lakers need him to perform. I do expect Jaren Jackson Jr. to be a force on the boards, which will be a challenge for Davis.

On Episode 153 of the Ballislife "In The Paint Show", hosts Ronnie Flores, Ani Umana and Chelsea Hopkins welcome on special guest Jasen Powell (L.A. Clippers Director of Medical Sevices/Head Athletic Trainer) to dish on the inner-workings of NBA preparation, health and wellness and how it relates to longevity and peak performance.

Powell has been tenured with the Clippers for nearly 25 years and offers ITP's audience some terrific insight on the differences and advances in medical technology and game preparation over the last quarter century. Powell also dishes on the evolution of what NBA franchises invests in when it comes to player health and wellness and how and why it's such a bigger part of the game day preparation in the current NBA than the days when Michael Jordan broke into the league in the mid 1980s.

Powell also discusses how the average fan may not be aware when a player is laboring or not injured quite enough to sit out and how it's part of his job description to make sure players perform at a optimal or peak level, which may include some load management.

This topic is obviously relevant and important as the Laker's LeBron James surpasses Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time leading scorer in NBA history. The ITP crew discuss the legacy of the NBA's two ironman superstars and what James' record-breaking achievement and career means to them. Ron also gives some background on Abdul Jabbar's career and how and why he's still somewhat overlooked by casual or young NBA fans.

The ITP crew also break down the Kyrie Irving trade to the Dallas Mavericks and what it means. Did the Mavs make a mistake in not trying harder to keep Jalen Brunson? Was this move strictly made to keep Luka Doncic?happy? What does it mean for the Lakers that they missed on the Irving sweepstakes?

The crew also dish on NBA All-Star snubs, which player each believes needs a change of scenery, WNBA dynasties and more!

The ITP crew and its special guest offers some terrific insight on a inner-workings of the NBA and the topics related to KAJ's and Bron's longevity, so make sure to tune in to Episode 153 from start to finish!

In Episode No. 54 of our In The Paint Show,"  co-hosts Ronnie Flores and Devin Ugland do the podcast they never thought in a million years would be necessary: a recollection and insight into the life of a gone-too-soon basketball star. In this case, it's still shocking former Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant is no longer gracing the earth, gone at age 41 after a aviation accident last Sunday that killed seven other passengers, including his 13-year old daughter GiGi, and the pilot.

In a special two and one half hour show, the fellas bring on six special guests, each with their own unique perspective and insight on either Bryant's formative years, legendary pro career or his untimely death.

Roundball Classic and ABCD Camp founder Sonny Vaccaro holds no punches, going in-depth on his relationship with Bryant while at Lower Merion (Ardmore, Pa.) and how the move was orchestrated to turn pro and join the Lakers after his show-stopping performance at the 1995 ABCD Camp.

Rashad Phillips of Sports Talk 2319, a member of the Class of 1996 as is former NBA guard Corey Benjamin, both break down their unique relationship with Bryant. Phillips was a late add-on to the 1996 Roundball Classic All-Star Game and Bryant's inspirational words on national television that day still resonate. Benjamin, the 1996 Cal-Hi Sports Mr. Basketball, talks about what separated The Black Mamba from himself and other elites in that class.

Rome Douglas, a former NFL offensive lineman, has a 11-year old daughter who is an up-and-coming basketball player, and both were present at the Mamba Academy in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on that fateful day. Douglas talks about being at the facility when the awful news broke and how Kobe's and GiGi's loss will reverberate in the girls basketball community for many years to come.

Frank Burlison of BurlisonOnBasketball.com talks about evaluating Bryant for the first time as a rising junior while playing for the Sam Rines AAU travel ball club in Las Vegas. You won't believe what Bean shot from the field on the day he made a lasting impression of the Hall of Fame sportswriter.

Beto Duran, a well-known sports broadcaster on many platforms in Southern California, discusses his interactions with Kobe while covering the Lakers and what the basketball icon meant to the Latino community in Southern California.

In episode No. 27 of our  In The Paint Show," hosts Ronnie Flores and Devin Ugland go in hard on the much talked-about, blockbuster NBA trade that finally got done, sending Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers and sending Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and an array of draft picks, including this year's No. 4 overall, to the New Orleans Pelicans. Speaking of New Orleans, who will the Lakers be drafting for them at No. 4? Is there a team looking to cut a deal with the Pelicans? We break down the upcoming NBA Draft (June 20) with special guest, NBA Draft Insider Rashad Phillips of Sports Talk 2319.

Who are some of the candidates to go No. 4 in this top heavy NBA Draft? Who does Phillips think will pan out in the lottery after the "Big Three" of Zion Williamson, Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett? Who are some of the sleepers that Phillips likes in the second round? We chop it up with Phillips and the fellas give their take on the draft as well!

With the blockbuster trade and how it affects the upcoming NBA Draft, we barely have time to get into the Toronto Raptors capturing the franchise's first NBA title! What does Toronto's victory mean for the NBA off-season and how it relates to the big trade and upcoming free agency? Will two-time NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard stay in Toronto long-term? How will the Lakers fare next season? What is their championship window?

The fellas go over plenty of items as it relates to the NBA and Ron recaps and breaks down the 2019 NBPA Top 100 Camp that took place last week in Virginia.

In episode No. 23 of our  In The Paint Show," hosts Ronnie Flores and Devin Ugland cover a bunch of hot topics, including more Los Angeles Lakers drama that in many ways is overshadowing the Golden State Warriors' historic run to five consecutive NBA Finals. In Episode No. 10 we thought the Lakers' drama had reached it apex surrounding the Anthony Davis botched trade, but what's transpired over the last 48 hours is just insane! We break down Magic Johnson's comments on ESPN's "First Take", his fractured relationship with the Lakers' General Manager Rob Pelinka and what Magic's former employer now has to do to turn around a franchise that has become more known for its off-court drama that its wins on the court.

Was Johnson in the wrong for speaking about the Lakers on the day it had a presser to announce Frank Vogel as head coach? Was Magic in the right for trying to clear the air publicly about what he perceived was backstabbing by Pelinka? Is Jeannie Buss in over her head as the predecessor to her father and Magic's close friend, the late Dr. Jerry Buss? What should the Lakers do with the No. 4 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft? Will the Lakers be a playoff team in 2019-20?

We go Hard in the Paint about the whole saga!

It's ironic we are on Episode No. 23 because this is our best pod yet! We bring in three special guests to break down all the latest topics in hoops. First, we bring on former Lakers' second round draft pick Duane Cooper to talk about Magic Johnson and his relationship with the franchise, the Buss family and his experience in briefly playing with the Magic Man as he attempted to comeback to the NBA the year Cooper was drafted in 1992.

Our second guest is Kyle Goon, the Lakers' beat reporter for the Southern California News Group. Goon gives us his insights on the Lakers' current situation and offers his prospectus on Vogel and and the 2019-20 Lakers.

Some say the 2019 NBA Draft is a three-man deal with Zion Williamson, Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett, so the Lakers have a big decision with the No. 4 pick. We bring in our third guest, NBA Draft analyst Rashad Phillips of Sports Talk 2319 to break down the upcoming draft. Phillips gives his insight on what the Lakers should do with the fourth pick, his biggest sleepers after the top three and and his late round gem that other experts are sleeping on.

This is our deepest and best episode yet, so make sure to give our Pod a listen and share it with friends!

In the eighth episode of our all-new In The Paint Show," hosts Ronnie Flores and Devin Ugland dish on the Anthony Davis saga, as one of the NBA's best?all-around players announces he won't sign a long-term deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.

There has been a ton of rumors and speculation on what the Davis' saga means for the league and how he'll get to his preferred destination -- the Los Angeles Lakers. Will the Lakers part with the young core it drafted? Will the Pelicans wait to see what the Celtics can offer after July 1?

In just a few short days, the Pelicans have received an offer from the Lakers and things are moving so fast we try to make sense of it all. We also dish on whom has been the NBA's most powerful person at various times in its history and how the league has always favored the franchises in the big markets.

We also break down what we saw at the recent Nike Extravaganza, which saw the last appearance against CIF schools by national power Oak Hill Academy of Virginia, and the teams SoCal fans can expect to see in the upcoming eight-team CIFS Southern Section playoffs.

Devin also gives his bold prediction of whom will win the showdown between FAB 50 No. 8 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) and No. 10 Rancho Christian (Temecula, Calif.), California's top two ranked teams who play on February 2.

The fellas cover plenty this week, so make sure to give it a listen below and share it with friends!

How many times have you seen this up and under move by Kobe in the past 19 years?

Bryant, looking a lot more active than he did during the Lakers first practice, was pulling out some classic moves during the Lakers 2nd scrimmage on Thursday which ended with a 2 hand dunk by Bryant and a bunch of cheers from his teammates.

This fadeaway jumper should also generate some cheers from Lakers' fans.

On June 4th of 2000, the Portland Jailblazers almost ended Shaq's incredible MVP season and prevented a future 3-peat from happening.?

It was Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals and the Blazers had a 75-58 early 4th quarter lead on the Lakers. Then the Blazers collapsed as the Lakers scored 15 in a row during a 31-11 run over the last 11 minutes and ended up WINNING by four. ?

Most LA fans who watched the game will tell you that it was the play of Kobe, Shaq, Brian Shaw, Ron Harper and Big Shot Rob that's responsible for the comeback. But many Portland fans will tell you it was?Dick Bavetta and David Stern. Yes,?Sabonis and Scottie Pippen both fouled out in the 4th on some very questionable calls and the Lakers did shoot 37 free throws compared to the Blazers' 16, but I'm not buying that conspiracy and neither should you.?

The only thing you need to remember about this game was this play and the fact that the Lakers would go on to win three straight titles.

"This is what makes champions,"' Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said. "We watched Game 7s growing up all the time, and to finally play in one is a real thrill."

It was even thrilling for the Zen Master, who has been in his share of thrilling playoff games.

"Game 7s are very interesting, but I've never seen any quite like that one before," said Phil Jackson.

UPDATE: In 2017, Shaq said he was pointing at his newborn son, Shareef, after the dunk. This story is really cool to me since Shaq is my all-time favorite player, I remember watching this game live on TV and Shareef just played in our Ballislife High School All-American game last month.

Sportsnation asked a bunch of Lakers on media day if they could beat the 36 year old Kobe Bryant in a game of one-on-one and here's how they replied.

Jordan Hill: I think so. I'll give him a try.

Jeremy Lin: I could yes, hypothetically.

Carlos Boozer: I'm whooping Kobe right now (in a joking way)

Robert Sacre: I think I can. I tried to play him but he turned me down

Steve Nash: I don't think I have a chance

Xavier Henry:  Yeah. I'm playing

Julius Randle: Yes I can beat Kobe right now

Nick Young: Deep down I think we both know who could win

Knowing Kobe Bryant, regardless of his age and whatever injury he has or is recovering from, he's going to shake his head at every one of them and do one of his typical "c'mon man" responses.

456358910

Here's a little background on Kobe when it comes to the topic of one-on-one games.

In a 2010 interview, Kobe, without hesitation, explained why he would beat LeBron one-on-one because “that’s his thing” and “at the core” of Kobe, he’s a one-on-one player and LeBron is more of a Magic Johnson type.  It was a typical cocky answer from Kobe that shouldn’t surprise anybody.

Then in 2012, Kobe again showed his confidence when it came to one-on-one challenges when Kyrie Irving challenged him.

In 2013, a 50 year old Michael Jordan was asked about playing a lot of the elite players of today in a game of one-on-one and the GOAT also said he would beat LeBron but not Kobe because Bryant "steals his moves."

That same year, during an ESPN interview, Kobe talked about specific battles with specific players such as Tracy McGrady and had this to say about McGrady.

“I played T-Mac. I cooked him. Roasted him. Wasn’t even close. Ask him, he’ll tell you. When I was about 20, we were in Germany doing some promotional stuff for that other sneaker company and we played basketball every day. We were in the gym all the time. We played three games of one-on-one to 11. I won all three games. One game I won 11-2. After the third game he said he had back spasms and couldn’t play anymore.”

T-Mac denied the story by saying "LOL Hell No! That's far from the truth. No one in the NBA is playing 1 on1."

Whether or not the Germany games happened is up in the air but Kobe did tell Jimmy Kimmel that McGrady gave him the  most problems and McGrady told TMZ that Kobe was his toughest opponent and nobody else was close.

In 2014, Phil Jackson told Fox Sports he would take Michael Jordan over Kobe in a game of one-on-one and then told a hilarious story about the time he asked Michael Jordan to talk to Kobe Byrant about the way he plays and the first thing Kobe said to Jordan was "I could kick your ass one-on-one."  Jordan's response was "You might."

The cheetah inspired fadeaway was back!  Kobe Bryant looked great at yesterday's 5-on-5 scrimmage which included a fresh looking Steve Nash, Swaggy P and new Lakers Julius Randle, Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer.

"I love what I saw with Kobe and Steve," said Scott after the practice. "Steve impressed me and Kobe impressed me."

Many of Kobe's fadeaways came over rookie Jordan Clarkson and after the scrimmage, Bryant spent a few minutes giving Clarkson advice about playing defense.

"I was trying to test him," said Bryant after practice. "He's a hard worker. He's a curious player, so he really tries to pick things apart."

Check out the videos below for more interviews and scrimmage highlights including a dunk by Kobe during layup drills.

Watch as Nick Young reverse dunks on Davon who comes back with a nasty crosser and a sick finish. The two LA natives met up in Watts for a charity game last night to give back to the community.

Steven A Smith went off on Mike D'Antoni on first take this morning saying he owes Kobe an apology for his comments about Kobe being just a fan after a reporter asked him what he thought about Kobe's tweets during the game. If I agree or not doesn't matter because the fact that Kobe's tweets got way more attention than the Lakers game itself is the biggest issue here if you ask me.

Swiss luxury watch brand, Hublot, has named Los Angeles Lakers’ star shooting guard, Kobe Bryant, its newest ambassador. To commemorate the partnership, Hublot released Kobe’s signature timepiece, the limited edition King Power Black Mamba.

“Bryant was the perfect choice for Hublot—a brand known for its precision and excellence, traits that have characterized the basketball icon’s celebrated career,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot.

Hublot sells watches averaging about $20,000 - $30,000 so safe to say you won't be seeing too many Kobe fans walking around with this.
