Well, surprise, surprise, surprise! On Sunday night, LaMelo and LiAngelo Ball led their Los Angeles Ballers team to a 131-121 victory over the Seattle Ballers in the first-ever championship game of LaVar Ball's JBA league.

Gelo won MVP of the game after scoring a game-high 58 points (24-53 FG, 7-16 3PT) to go with 11 boards and six assists. The 58 tied the league-high total he set two playoff games ago but wasn't a big surprise since he averaged a league-leading 50 a game during the season...and HE TOOK 53 SHOTS!

Melo flirted with another triple-double with 34 points (10-23 FG, 7-16 3PT), 15 boards and 9 assists with 11 turnovers. This also wasn't too surprising since he led the league in assists (11) and turnovers (6.5).

As a reward for passing the ball to Gelo and rebounding a lot of missed shots, each member of the championship team was given a 2018 Cadillac ATS Sedan. Nice!

After averaging a league-high 52 points a game, LiAngelo Ball scored a league-high 58 points during the JBA's first playoff game on Friday. Unlike most of Gelo's 50-point performances, he shot over 50% from the field (67% on 23-of-34 shooting) and didn't struggle from three (11-of-20 from downtown) in this one. A few of the threes were also contested and a few that weren't is because he decided to pull up from near half-court.

Brother Melo added 34 points (13-28 FG, 5-13 3PT) and a game-high 13 assists in LA's 157-134 win over Philly (I'm assuming basketball fans in the City of Brotherly Love aren't taking this loss as hard as they did when the 76ers lost to the Lakers in 2001).

BALL BROS HIGHEST SCORING GAMES

In case you were wondering what's the most points the brothers have ever scored in a game, Melo scored 92 points on 37-of-61 shooting during his high school sophomore year (he was just 15 years old) back in 2017 and Gelo scored 72 for BC Vytautas in Lithuania earlier this year and during his senior year at Chino Hills.

Melo's 92, which included a 41-point first quarter, was criticized because many of his buckets came off of cherry-picking layups. He said the team made a conscious effort to make the game a headline-worthy one to bring awareness to a fellow Chino Hills student, Lexi Anderson, who was in need of a heart transplant and donations after going into cardiac arrest.

Some accused Gelo's 72 in Lithuania of being staged and/or a publicity stunt since he declared for the NBA draft before the game. As you know, he didn't get drafted and that's why he's currently putting up 50-point games in his Dad's league.

His other 72-point game came during his senior year in 2016. The game also happened just one day after he put up 56 points and was a school record until Melo's 92. But the 13 three-pointers he made in this game still stands as a school record.

As for Lonzo, I don't know what his high school career high is but I know he averaged 24 points a game while also averaging 12 assists, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks during his senior year that ended with him winning MVP at our Ballislife All-American Game.

I also know he put up an impressive 29 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists in his second NBA game and I don't care if it was against the Phoenix Suns. The Suns are made of a group of the most talented basketball players in the world...which is something I can't say about the competition LaVar Ball's other sons are going against right now.

After watching LiAngelo Ball average a league-leading 52 points (on over 40 shots a game) and LiAngelo Ball put up 40 points (2nd), 11.5 ASTS (1st) and 14.5 REBS (4th) during the inaugural season of the no-defense-allowed JBA League, I said one of the two brothers was going to either put up 81 to 100 points or have a 50-point triple-double in the All-Star game. I was wrong. Together, they combined to equal Kobe's NBA career-high and the game high went to a non relative of the Ball family: Deon Lyle, who had 51 points and shared co-MVP honors with Gelo.

Gelo finished the game with 39 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. He shot an efficient 18-of-34 from the field but was just 3-of-14 from three. He wasn't much better in the three-point shootout, which was won by Seattle Ballers' Brandon Willis.

Melo finished with 42 points (18-30 FG, 4-13 3PT), 17 assists, 8 steals and 7 boards. He passed on participating in the three-point shootout and dunk contest, which was won by Houston Ballers' Nick Lovelace.

I was also wrong about another thing. I said they would fail to fill up the arena since the games throughout the season had such poor attendance. I also assumed they were going to play in another arena and not a sports complex with your typical high school size bleachers. But, LaVar said he isn't concerned about the absence of butts in seats at the live events.

But is it better to have all cameras in there and 100 people or 10,000 people in there with no cameras. The scouts want to say ‘Hey is that guy good?’ If you have 10,000 people in there and no cameras, it’s just people saying he’s good. So when the cameras is in there (sic) and they playing in arenas and they say this kid is good, press rewind and we’ll watch him again.

On Thursday, LaMelo & LiAngelo Ball put up a total of 89 shots on their way to scoring 96 of their team's 170 points in the JBA league (that makes the ABA league of the 70s feel like a defensive-minded league). Gelo had 54 of those 89 shot attempts. In case you were wondering, there's only been three players in NBA history (Wilt, Kobe, Rick Barry) to ever attempt 50 shots in a game; Wilt and Kobe both ended up with 60 points.

In their latest game, the Ball Bros attempted two less shots but cracked the century mark with 101 of the their team's 130 points!

The 130-122 victory came against the Chicago team that made some noise last week when the coach put his hands on a player during a game. That player, Montrell Dixson, had a team-high 15 rebounds with 14 points in this game while his teammate Travis Ingram flirted with a triple-double (11/11/8) and wanted to put his hands on Melo after this loose ball foul.

Last week, the big story out of the JBA League wasn't LiAngelo Ball putting up a 53-point triple-double in his Los Angeles debut but the actions of a JBA coach putting his hands on a player while threatening and cursing at him during the game. When asked about the coach by Fox 5 DC, Lavar Ball said the situation is being handled internally and seemed annoyed the media would rather talk about this instead of the Wilt-like numbers his sons had.

“We’re gonna do what we need to do. It’s just the intensity of the game. It’s not like the guy has a bad character of beating up kids or something like that. But my sons just scored 171 points. Both of them had triple-doubles. Nobody talking about the positive. So you looking for anything negative about the JBA … I’m not saying, ‘OK, this guy. He’s not swinging or nothing like that.’ He’s just very intense. It just happened at a bad moment. It’s part of the game. But it’s nothing like sending guys to the military at 18. You don’t think they’re cussing at those guys?”

When asked if a coach had done the same thing to one of his sons, LaVar said.

“I’d knock him out. How’s that? Violence shall be met with violence … Like I said, I’m not condoning this at all.”

On Friday, the JBA took their show to Dallas and played a game that made recent NBA All-Star games look like the 2005 NBA Finals between the Pistons and Spurs; The LA team beat Atlanta 170 to 123 behind 48-point games by Melo and Gelo. Melo also had 24 rebounds (!?) and 14 assists (!?), while Gelo ONLY had 16 boards with 8 dimes. And here's the stat that's really going to blow you away: the brothers attempted a total of 89 shots!

LaMelo Ball: 48 PTS (18-35 FG, 7-18 3PT, 5-5 FT)
LiAngelo Ball: 48 PTS (19-54 FG, 5-24 3PT, 5-9 FT)

FYI, there's only been four instances of a player in the NBA attempting 50+ shots and three of those four games were basically 60-point games against real professional players.

LaVar Ball told you LiAngelo Ball was going to be playing with his brother in Los Angeles. And it happened...sort of.

On Thursday night, Gelo made his Los Angeles debut in the JBA league with brother Melo on his side. Lonzo was there, watching the game with his Laker teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. YouTuber and Ball family fanatic Oprah Sideverson was also one of the reported "2,000 people" in attendance to watch Gelo put up a 53-point, triple-double (53/10/10) in the 171-140 victory over Philly. The 53 (21 in the 1st quarter) came on 24-of-42 shooting but he missed 14 of his 18 three-point attempts.

As expected, Melo also put up some gaudy numbers in the defensive-minded league: 25 points, 19 assists, 17 rebounds.

His brother, LaMelo, put up 39 points on 17-of-35 shooting (5-14 3PT) with 16 boards, 16 assists and 6 steals. Underrated teammate Big Kervin Bristol had 12 points, a game-high 23 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 blocks during the 127-110 friendly victory for Vytautas.

This was Melo's second triple-double in Lithuania. The first was a 40-point triple-double (40/11/10) during LaVar's coaching debut.

At halftime of his latest Big Baller Brand Challenge game in Lithuania, LiAngelo Ball was asked about his trending decision to declare for the upcoming NBA Draft.

Hours before the final Big Baller Brand Challenge in Lithuania, BC Vytatutas announced Assistant Coach LaVar Ball will be the HEAD COACH for their game against Jonava.

Minutes before the game, LaVar gave the team a motivational speech that rivals Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday and anything Kurt Russell (Miracle), Denzel Washington (Remember The Titans) or Gene Hackman (Hoosiers) ever said in a sports film: "Operation Beatdown: Run fast, have fun and let's whoop dat ass!"

His boys did exactly that as LiAngelo scored 31 points and LaMelo showed out with a 40-point triple-double (11 rebounds & 10 assists).

The most fun moment of the game came in the third quarter, when Melo threw down an alley-oop from his brother, lifted his shirt like Baron Davis after murdering Ak-47 and revealed he was wearing a Lonzo Ball BBB shirt.

"Get Your Merch" yelled Melo to the cameras.

After we posted the clip to Twitter, Lonzo Ball replied to us with a screenshot of text messages from Melo (aka Dip Shit) saying he was going to do exactly what he did during the 151 (9 points less than the 160 LaVar promised)-120 victory.

"Instead of going to the movies, come watch this right here." Said a very happy looking LaVar during the postgame conference. "It's just entertainment and basketball is a heck of a product.

He also said Gelo had a little food poisoning but played because "you never leave your wingman hanging."

Another memorable quote from the postgame included him saying "we got nothing but Uzis on this team and everybody got a lot of bullets."

Considering the team shot 121 times, including 58 from three, I'm going to have to agree with the "lots of bullets" comment.

Lithuania, are you ready for the Big Baller Brand Challenge Games? It's only the biggest basketball event for the country since their national team won Bronze in the 1992 Olympics after the breakup of the Soviet Union!

Obviously I'm kidding and hoping I didn't offend any fellow Arvydas Sabonis fans. And I have a Lithuanian last name (even though I'm not Lithuanian), so this should allow me a free pass to joke about the new home of LaMelo and LiAngelo Ball for the next few months.

On Friday, the two Ball brothers practiced for the first time with their Lithuanian team, Prienu Vytautas, and then participated in an amusing press conference, highlighted by a reporter asking Gelo out and if he has a girlfriend. His response was, "I'm just here to play basketball, no comment." If you watch the 'Ball in the Family' reality show on Facebook then you know he does in fact have a girlfriend and why he probably isn't interested in leaving her. Then again, he has money and he was willing to...never mind.

Another highlight from the press conference was a man handing LaVar The Prophet (and Profit) a Lakers hat and asking him to write the date all three of his sons will be members of Lonzo's current team. LaVar wrote 2020! So mark it down LaVar haters.

Another date worth marking down is January 9th (Tuesday at 1:30 PM EST) of 2018. That's the date LaMelo and LiAngelo will make their pro debuts in the Big Baller Brand Challenge -- a five-game exhibition formed by the team after withdrawing from the Baltic Basketball League.  The first game will be streamed by Ballislife (that's us!) on our Weekly Showcase Channel on Facebook.

One day after being pulled out of UCLA by his Dad, LiAngelo Ball made an appearance on 'The Today Show' to discuss his arrest in China.

“We all went out one night, went to the malls, went to the Louis Vuitton store. People started taking stuff and then me just not thinking and being with them, I took something too. We left thinking we’ll just get away. You know how kids think. I didn’t realize till I got back to my hotel, that was stupid.”

Stupid? Just a little.

The 19-year old Ball then talked about his not-so-pleasant day in a China jail that sounded a lot like every jail in America.

"It was horrible. They take your clothes. You wear like whatever they have for you, little jumpsuit or whatever, take your shoestrings. You just sitting there in the cement cell for however long. It's just you and all the officers and they don't speak English."

LaVar was there to support Gelo and provide some comic relief with his comments about Donald Trump, who was also brought up during his amusing appearance on CNN.

Speaking to CNN's Chris Cumo, the BBB CEO discussed his decision to remove Gelo from the college Lonzo attended and LaMelo committed to...at the age of 13!

“I’m not going to sit back and wait for a person to say ‘you know what, I think we’re going to let you guys play now. UCLA is not going to bring my boy down … You shouldn’t hang them on the cross this long for that.”

LaVar also said he thinks behind closed doors, Trump is wearing a pair of Lonzo Ball shoes and singing, "Thank you. Thank you."

WHERE TO?

The rumor is Gelo might be taking his talents overseas and the irony of him possibly going back to China cracks me up. Now, considering Jimmer "Lonely God" Fredette is a basketball God in China -- he almost had back-to-back 50 point triple-doubles earlier in the year -- playing ball in China might not be a bad idea for Gelo...and Melo. Plus, the Ball family has a huge cult following over there and they might be able to lower the prices on some of their BBB gear. $500 for Gelo shoes?

One place you definitely wont see Gelo end up is in the land of the great Arvydas Sabonis. This is what a coach of a Lithuanian basketball team tweeted and deleted on Tuesday: "Yes, we have an openings at the security staff since they have an experience in this field."

According to ESPN's Arash Markazi, the talented freshman trio of Gelo, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill didn't just shoplift glasses from Louis Vuitton (which resulted in a hilarious seven minute roast on 'Inside the NBA'), they hit up three stores!

As a punishment, the players are expected to serve 20 days of house arrest at the Hangzhou Hyatt Regency hotel, where LaVar, along with his wife and son, LaMelo, are also staying. 20 days at a Luxury hotel > 10 years in a China prison!

As for the rest of the UCLA squad, they beat Georgia Tech 63-60 behind a team-high 18 points (4-6 3PT) from freshman Kris Wilkes and 14 from fellow high-flying freshman Jaylen Hands.

The strongest and best three-point shooting brother in the Ball family, LiAngelo Ball, had his shooter's mentality on full display during his UCLA debut on Wednesday. In 16 minutes off the bench, Gelo went 4-of-8 from the field and 2-of-6 from three for 11 points. Most of his shots came within 1-2 seconds after receiving a pass.

“He made a couple good moves inside the arc that I was really glad to see because he’s been doing that in practice and I thought he showed some maturity and growth at the defensive end and that’s something we want to see,” head coach Steve Alford said.

As expected, Gelo's father, LaVar Ball, was in attendance (taking photos with fans at halftime and after the game) along with his little brother LaMelo, who has committed to UCLA and currently has his own signature shoe and a Lambo. According to the LA Times, LaVar praised UCLA's "freewheeling style" and said "if the team kept playing the same way it could win the national championship." He also said the UCLA squad would have put up 150 points if they still had Lonzo.

Fellow Ballislife All-Americans Jaylen Hands (12/11/9) and Kris Wilkes (14 points) also played well during their debuts in the 111-80 exhibition victory over Cal State LA.

Here's your daily day in the life of a Big Baller post about the basketball world's most polarizing family.

This past weekend, the Ball family setup a pop-up shop that created five-hour long lines made up fans and customers at Open Gym Premier and showed the cult of LaVar is getting stronger by the day and 15-year old LaMelo Ball has more fans than half of the players in the NBA.  One of the highlights from the successful shop was LaVar exchanging his BBB hat with a fan for his yarmulke (or is kippah?) and saying, "I used to date a Jewish girl in high school!"

When the event was done, Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo got in their fancy rides -- a black Rolls Royce, white Ferrari and a red Porsche -- and drove off as fans literally were trying to chase them down for selfies and autographs.

Hate em or love em, you better get used to seeing and hearing about them because this is just the beginning!

I’ll never forget, Jordan was sitting on his Ferrari and Pippen was right there and they have a cigar lit. We get off the bus and we have to pass them with a lit cigar. You want to talk about posturing? Forget Phil Jackson. You got Michael Jordan there behind the scenes smoking a cigar before the game, letting us know that he’s the Red Auerbach before the game even started. It was almost like, ‘I lit the cigar. I’m celebrating already. This is just a formality, you guys getting on the court tonight.”

I can just visualize a visiting team shaking their heads at the sight of Ball, Kris Wilkes and Jaylen Hands standing in front of the white Ferrari, with cigars and BBB gear.

Before the start of our 2017 Ballislife All-American game, a couple of our special guests got into an amusing 3-point shoot out. It started when Shareef O'Neal spotted YouTube sensation Kristopher London and challenged him to a shooting contest. The reward? Bragging rights and kicks.

Shareef went first, knocking down two of his five 3-point attempts (FYI, his Dad made one three during his NBA career; three if you count preseason games). A cocky London went next, knocking down four straight with shades on then swishing a half court shot. He later knocked down a few more near half-court shots during a shooting contest FOR THE KIDS!

London wasn't as hot the day before when he challenged LiAngelo Ball to a shootout for some BBB sandals -- not the $200 BBB slides.

That’s when La’Melo Ball, Chino Hill’s superbly gifted sophomore point guard, took over, and led a Chino Hills 76-68 comeback victory. He hit some contested jumpers and controlled the action with timely passes, by keeping the dribble alive and setting up teammates or finishing around the rim himself. Two spectacular lay-ups by Ball, a 6-foot-1 15-year old, cut the Chino Hills (10-0) deficit to four points (50-46) and the Huskies eventually tied the game at 52-52 on a 3-pointer by Li’Angelo Ball after some nifty Melo Ball ball-handling.

The main beneficiary of Melo’s showmanship down the stretch was LMU-bound Eli Scott, who continues to come up big in this tournament when the unbeaten Huskies need him the most. Scott gave the Huskies a 54-52 lead on a offensive rebound putback . The teams battled the rest of the way and the difference was the free throw shooting of Scott. He made eight in the row down the stretch, including two front ends of one-and-one situations. Scott made 10-of-10 free throws in the second half, 11-of-12 for the game, and finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. He had 18 points in the second half alone, while Roosevelt had 23 as a team.

Melo Ball finished with 17 points and four assists while his older brother Gelo Ball netted 23 points.

After nailing nine 3-pointers as a team in the first half when it built a 45-33 lead, Roosevelt (5-2) was outscored, 43-23, after intermission. It did hit some timely 3-pointers throughout, but just couldn’t convert in the final minute from long range when it trailed 71-68 with 40 seconds remaining. Scott’s free throws then sealed Chino Hills’ 45th consecutive win.

Jemarl Baker, Roosevelt’s long-range sharp-shooter headed to CAL, made seven of 13 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 27 points. He did not attempt a free throw. Cal-St. Fullerton-bound Matt Mitchell added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

“It’s just about being resilient” Scott said about performing in gut check time with Chino Hills on the ropes. “We ain’t come this far to go home with one loss.”

Chino Hills, ranked No. 10 in the latest FAB 50 National Rankings, has a championship date (December 20, 6:20 pm PT) with FAB 50 No. 18 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), who outlasted host Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) 86-79, in overtime in the other championship semifinal to improve to 11-0 on the season.

Just as Chino Hills trailed 50-37, Bishop Gorman led 51-37. Mater Dei slowly chipped away until Spencer Freedman sparked the Monarchs to a 11-1 run after it trailed 69-60 with 4:45 seconds remaining in regulation. Mater Dei took a 71-70 lead on a 3-pointer by Matthew Weyand less than three minutes later. The game was in the balance and Bishop Gorman (5-3) had a chance to win at the regulation buzzer, but a 3-pointer by Jamal Bey was off-target.

It was all Mater Dei in the overtime period, as Freedman thread the needle to junior wing Harrison Butler for a lay-up and 80-78 lead and the Monarchs never looked back. Freedman had 17 points in the second half, and finished with 24 points, three assists and only one turnover. Senior forward Justice Sueing also played well with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

BYU-bound Christian Popoola Jr. led the Gaels with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Mater Dei will look to have a good outing in a championship game of unbeatens, as it attempts to find a way to end the Chino Hills streak. Chino Hills has found a way to win even when it doesn’t look its best, while Mater Dei has been the more consistent team so far this season. Mater Dei also has the memory of last year’s CIF Southern Section Open Division semifinal loss to the Huskies it would like to erase. Chino Hills defeated the Monarchs 102-54 en route to its mythical FAB 50 national title.

You can bet the Tarkanian Championship game will be much closer.

UCLA freshman phenom, Ballislife All-American Game MVP and possible future #1 NBA draft pick, Lonzo Ball, set a UCLA freshman assist record on Wednesday, dishing out 13 assists in a 98-56 win over UC Riverside. The record beats Pooh Richardson's 12, which was set back in 1986 and will probably be matched or beat again, multiple times, by the end of the season.

"It was about game flow." Said Ball. "Guys were hitting shots. I was getting them the ball.  Everything was clicking tonight.  It was a good team effort.  I just take what the game gives me.  Today, I just found my teammates."

In eight undefeated games, Ball is averaging 9.6 assists per game and has reached 11+ three times. This was the first time this season Ball failed to score in double-figures.

Failing to score is something that can't be said about his little brother, LiAngelo, on this exact same night. 24 hours after scoring 56 in a game, Gelo scored a career-high 72, which now gives him a 51.3 points per game average over Chino Hill's undefeated season so far. If you go back to last season, Chino Hills is on a 38-game win streak.

Also worth mentioning is the youngest of the three Ball brothers, LaMelo, had 31 points on this night. I guess you could say it was a pretty good night to be in the Ball family.

Back to Lonzo aka Jason Kidd 2.0, he's been racking up quite a few compliments over the past few days. Jay Bilas said, "He's Jason Kidd. He's big, he can handle it, he can pass it. Lonzo Ball is a better shooter than Jason Kidd was in college."  FYI, Jason Kidd's nickname coming into the NBA was Ason Kidd because he didn't have a J, still, that's high praise.

Former UCLA point guard great Baron Davis also raved about Ball to TMZ: "He will definitely be a UCLA Hall of Famer," Davis says. "He's following right after Russ (Westbrook) and all the rest of the great point guards."
