Chicago POY Alonzo Verge Last HS Game vs Simeon! Sectional Final Full Highlights!

Alonzo Verge (Thornton HS) was just named Chicago Sun Times 2017 Player of the Year (Chicago Area). His Thornton Wildcats collided with Chicago City Champs Simeon Career Academy in the Class 4A Thornwood Sectional Final.
In front of a soldout crowd near Chicago, Simeon threw everything they had at 6'3 point guard Alonzo Verge and 6'5 Simeon junior Talen Horton-Tucker came up big again (14 points, 9 assists, 6 steals, 4 rebounds). Simeon (28-3) won 69-52 over Thornton (23-6) for it's 7th Sectional title in 8 years.
Verge finished with 20 points in his final HS game. Simeon's Kezo Brown finished with 18 points as Messiah Jones added 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Kezo Brown Lifts Simeon to Chicago City Title!

Chicago Simeon faced Red South rivals Morgan Park (19-6) for the Chicago City title (for the first time). Led by junior Kezo Brown's 26 points, the Simeon Wolverines (24-3) won their 8th Public League basketball title (2nd in a row) 68-64 at Chicago State on the city's South Side. With the win, the Wolverines return to the FAB 50 national rankings at No. 46.
After sitting out most of his sophomore season due to health issues, Kezo's performance cemented his status as one of the city's top players regardless of class.
Matching up against Chicago's highest rated prospect and fellow Mac Irvin Fire AAU teammate Ayo Dosunmu (16 points, 5 assists) for much of the contest, Kezo had his hands full.
And he got help from his Simeon teammates. Senior guard Evan Gilyard (UTEP) added 18 points including 10 in the 4th quarter. Talen Horton-Tucker scored 13 points to go with 11 rebounds. Messiah Jones added 6 points, 7 rebounds and a very timely block in the final minute.
Melo Burrell scored 15 points with 10 rebounds and Lenell Henry score 15 for Morgan Park. Following the game, Henry picked up an offer from Chicago State.

Ballislife will continue following Simeon and Morgan Park in their quests for Illinois state titles.

Simeon cruising through Chicago Public League Playoffs with Balanced Attack!

Chicago Simeon is used to being the favorite when they step on the basketball court.
While Chicago Curie was the preseason favorite team in the area and rival Morgan Park won their Red South conference this season, Simeon is rolling through the Chicago Public League Playoffs utilizing a balanced attack.
Host Simeon (23-2) defeated Farragut (12-10, who knocked out Uplift) 95-63 to advance to the Public Semifinals (to face Whitney Young HS).
Simeon's starters filled the stat sheet as usual with Evan Gilyard (UTEP) scoring 20 points. Juniors Talen Horton-Tucker (16 points) and Messiah Jones (10 and 6) added scoring, energy, and rebounds.
The balance came from sophomore guard Kejuan Clements (season high 16 points) and junior reserve shooter Kenny Pittman (11 points). Madison Lowery added an emotional dunk to re-ignite the crowd and bench in the second half.
Farragut's sophomore guard Aaron Strong had a breakout game, scoring 28 points to lead the rugged Admirals and senior Kawanise Wilkins finished with 16 and 12.
Next up for Simeon is the Final Four where they face Whitney Young Dolphins at Chicago State.
Ballislife will continue following Simeon in their quest for a City title.

Evan Gilyard (UTEP commit) is a four-year varsity player for Chicago Public League powerhouse Simeon Career Academy. After waiting for his time to come, the flashy point guard is leading Simeon's balanced scoring attack alongside junior Talen Horton-Tucker and Kezo Brown and the Wolverines are off to their best start in memory (16-0).
For the second consecutive season, Simeon has faced Fenwick, a formidable suburban Catholic League opponent. Last season, Simeon lost at Fenwick. This season, after 3 quarters of back and forth scoring, the Wolverines pulled away to win 55-50.
Gilyard led Simeon's scoring with 15. Brown and Horton-Tucker added 14. Unsigned senior Jacob Keller led Fenwick (13-4) with 16 points and Jamal Nixon scored 13. One of the area's top freshmen, DJ Steward had numerous assists in the first half.

Simeon vs Whitney Young: Chicago Public League Powerhouses Collide!

Arguably the 2 highest profile Public League high school teams in Chicago (and perhaps the nation), Simeon and Whitney Young renewed their rivalry at the UIC Pavilion just before the holidays.
There are no more Jahlil Okafor and Jabari Parker battles (both won Illinois state titles), but there's still quality, hard-fought basketball.
Nationally-ranked, undefeated Simeon held off top ten Chicago team Whitney Young 59-52. In the end it was Simeon's 6'5 reserve Madison Lowery, better known as a baseball player, whose 17 rebounds were the difference in the game.
Simeon's do-everything, breakout junior Talen Horton-Tucket scored 17 points and junior guard Kezo Brown finished with 13. Tied at 44, it was Lowery, Horton-Tucker and Brown who took over.
Young's junior PG Xavier Castaneda led the Dophins with 16 points and transfer Javon Freeman scored 12 off the bench. Young's breakout senior Lucas Williamson finished with 11 points.

Evan Gilyard vs Charlie Moore: Top Chicago Guards, Intense Simeon-Morgan Park Rivalry Game!

The most competitive Public League High School basketball in the country can likely be found in Chicago. It just so happens the top 2 basketball programs in the state of Illinois are also in the same conference (Chicago's Red South), are located five miles down the street (Vincennes) from one another, and are also bitter rivals.
Over the last 3 years, Morgan Park has won 2 state titles (3a) and finished 3rd in 2015. They're currently the top team in Illinois and are unbeaten in-state this season (1 loss in Detroit). Simeon has cemented itself as a national power under Coach Rob Smith (6 state titles last ten seasons) producing Derrick Rose, Jabari Parker and more.
When they play (twice a year in conference or for city title), it's a battle. The gym is always sold-out with friends, family, classmates and fans and cameras are rolling.
Typically Simeon hosts 1 game and Morgan Park's "home game" gets moved to a larger neutral site as Morgan Park's antiquated gym accommodates only 250 fans. This season, after threatening a much-publicized boycott if the game were to be held elsewhere, Morgan Park hosted their home game for the first time in years in their tiny South Side gym.
Security was intense and the game was sold-out in advance. Morgan Park had defeated Simeon on the road last month.
This time #4 Simeon (17-3) came into #1 Morgan Park's (16-2) gym and left with a 60-57 upset victory.
Simeon junior point guard Evan Gilyard finished with 24 points (4 3-pointers) to lead the Wolverines.
Illinois Mr Basketball contender, Memphis-commit Charlie Moore (Morgan Park) scored 19 but needed more support from his teammates.
Simeon senior Zachary Norvell Jr (Gonzaga) scored 18 with 7 rebounds. Rarely-used Simeon reserve, 6'5 junior Madison Lowery came off the bench in the second half and scored a career high 10, giving his team a lift.
