]]>“We figured it out, and I been back to work this summer. And everything’s back to even better than what it was."
That's Markelle Fultz talking about his 'fixed" jump shot with Isaiah Thomas in a new "For The Record" video from The Players' Tribune.
The two former Washington Huskies with a lot to prove in the upcoming NBA season also discussed their first meeting, having a great time at college, getting drafted (Fultz was the first overall pick and IT was the last player picked in his draft) and future goals.
On Tuesday, Sixers head coach Brett Brown discussed Fultz getting his "mojo" back and said Fultz took 150,000 shots during his workouts with Drew Hanlen this summer. If he started taking those shots the day after the 76ers were eliminated in the playoffs, he took 1,150 shot a day!
Long answer from Brett Brown on Markelle Fultz.
He says that Fultz took 150,000 shots this summer, form isn’t all the way consistent but that he’s back to seeking out shots. pic.twitter.com/8fbVRe3ZaU

]]>2017 No. 1 NBA Draft pick Markelle Fultz is so talented and athletic, he could probably average double-digit points by just driving to the basket and scoring on layups and dunks. He's so crafty, he could probably add another five points just off freebies coming off those drives. Throw in a three and one of those "hesi pull-up jimbo" moves that impressed Kevin Durant and the rookie could be at 20 points.
On Monday, coming off the bench against the team that could have drafted him, the 19-year old future star bounced back from a rough 2-of-13 shooting night (0-of-3 from three) and knocked down 5-of-11 shots; 4 of his 5 made field goals were shots right at the basket. His final bucket came off a comfortable looking fadeaway jumper over the hands of a defender. The other two points came from the free throw line, where he missed 3 of his 5 attempts and caused the internet to (rightfully) freak out over his new and puzzling shooting form.
The form was so awkward looking, fellow rookie Donovan Mitchell even posted, "Markelle, we gotta talk about this one bro" on our IG post.
Why would a No. 1 pick, who shots 47.6% from the field and 41.3% from three in college mess with shooting form like this? He did shoot a poor 64.9% from the free throw line during his one season at Washington and I can see why he would want to tweak the shot a little but he went the Shaq route and totally changed it, for the worse. Is it the shoulder injury? If so, then why doesn't he just take a seat next to Joel Embiid and wait for it to heal? Or ask Ben Simmons how to shoot with the wrong hand (I'm kidding, don't do that Markelle!)?
We have had the pleasure of watching Fultz since his high school days and I still remember sitting at an event in 2016 and watching Fultz causally knock down jumpers from every spot on an empty court for about 30 minutes before he casually destroyed a couple of people one-on-one. Most of his shots were mid-range jumpers like the one at the 24-second mark of the following high school mixtape or jumpers off a spin move (1:26).
Impressive right?
The following is breakdown video of Fultz' shot and ability to get to his jumper off the dribble during his time in college.
It's videos like this that makes you feel like Fultz is going to be able to up nice numbers in the league right from the start.
Then you hear about the tinkering with the shot. Then you see how he's changed his form in the following breakdown video.
Then you hear this answer from 76ers Coach Brett Brown, when asked if he was comfortable with where Fultz' shot is at.
No, and so we’re gonna get back on track. His heart is in the right place. All by himself, he pivoted out over the summer and tried to make it better and tweak it, and he’s in a place right now where we’re gonna try to remind him where his shot was and try to bring that back into probably more a tighter shot, bring his release point down a little bit, bring the ball closer to his body. We have a Team Markelle all around him to help him, and he’s gonna be just fine.
Then you see what we can't unsee from last night against the Celtics.
Before you get too down on him, remember, he is just 19, it's just preseason of his rookie season and you and the rest of the world had no idea who he was just three years ago. During those three years, he went from an unknown high school kid to the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft.
Trust the process...no matter how ugly it looks.

]]>2016 and 2017 No. 1 picks Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz spent part of Sunday guarding each other and playing together during the 76ers Blue and White scrimmage at the Palestra. The coaches were switching players throughout the scrimmage so that's why the large crowd of Process fans got to watch their future franchise players go one-on-one at times.
“We’re going to make each other better,” Said Fultzs, who finished with 10 points on 3 for 6 shooting. “That’s what the team needs from both of us … I had fun doing that. I’m pretty sure he did too.”
He especially did in the second half, when he scored 14 of his 23 points (10/15 fg). He also had five dimes to go with his 23.
The Embiid-less scrimmage was eventually won by the White team in OT on a pair of free throws by Nik Stauskas. New Sixer J.J. Redick had a shot to win the game but missed a three at the buzzer.
Others highlights for Sixers fans was seeing former No. 3 pick Jahlil Okafor playing again and showing off his 20 pound lighter frame in the game and Furkan Korkmaz knocking down 7 of 8 shots (5 threes) for 18 points.

]]>Boston Celtics fans are going to love this. Sorry, I meant to say 76ers fans are going to love this video showcasing how unique future #1 pick Markelle Fultz is and how silly ESPN Sports Science can be.
The most amusing part of their breakdown is when they brought in a professional dodgeball team (you can laugh because I laughed too when I found out people are paid to play dodgeball) to test out Fultz's handles. I'm not going to say it's scripted but if this dodgeball team had a draft, they might be drafting first like the very happy 76ers are about to do.
Here's some bonus breakdown videos with a lot of stats and facts about the baller who wouldn't stand a chance against White Goodman.

]]>The post Tracy McGrady Plays 1-on-1 With Potential #1 Pick Markelle Fultz appeared first on www.ebooksnet.com.
]]>It's a pretty safe bet the #1 pick in the upcoming 2017 NBA draft will be Markelle Fultz, a player some have called a 6'4 Tracy McGrady. During a recent a trip to Texas, Fultz stopped by the home of the former 9th pick in the 1997 draft for a conversation about future goals and to play some 1-on-1.
Obviously the two were playing "let's not get physically hurt or try to hurt the other's ego" 1-on-1 and that's why McGrady ended up winning. I'm not knocking the 38-year old T-Mac at all because during his prime, the 7 x All-Star was one of the greatest 1-on-1 players in NBA history. But, I'm pretty sure Fultz and his 19-year old legs could take him right now.
While talking about goals, the uber confident Fultz said he's not only eyeing the rookie of the year award, he wants to win the MVP award. Not MVP of the Rising Stars or All-Star game but the MVP award James Harden and Russell Westbrook fought over (how stupid is it that we still do not know who the winner is because the NBA wanted to create a post-NBA Finals award show?). It's very unlikely Fultz will be a MVP contender during his rookie season but his story of going from unknown high school sophomore on the JV basketball team to a top three player in the nation for the Class of 2016 and then the favorite to be the #1 pick in the 2017 NBA draft is amazing enough.
Another great story I like reminding people is the one about McGrady's rookie coach, Darrell Walker, putting him in the doghouse and telling people the 18-year old might be out of the league in a couple of years if he doesn't improve his work ethic. Thankfully for McGrady, Walker was out of there and "Uncle Butch" Carter along with cousin Vince Carter arrived in Toronto. The rest is history and 20 years later, he's part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2017.
Last thing, I can't mention T-Mac and Sugar Land without giving a shout out to the Sugar Land Skeeters. It's the baseball team McGrady played for a few years ago and because I live a block a way from the arena.

— www.ebooksnet.com (@Ballislife) May 26, 2017
Potential...who am I kidding...future #1 NBA draft pick Markelle Fultz turns 19 today. This means he's two years away from legally buying alcohol and just a few months away from causing a few NBA veterans to buy a couple of extra drinks to ease the pain of their body and ego after guarding the teenager. You might be thinking I'm a little drunk on that stuff Fultz has been drinking when he said he wants to win MVP in his rookie season. Yeah, I'll admit it's unlikely and pretty crazy sounding but so is the story about the unknown high school sophomore on the JV basketball team turning into a top three player in the nation for the Class of 2016 and then the favorite to be the #1 pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
So in honor of Fultz turning one year older and one day closer to being the #1 draft pick, rookie of the year, All-Star, MVP and whatever else he wants to become, let's take a look back at some people who don't care to wish Fultz a happy birthday.
Go to the 3:44 mark to see Fultz steal the ball from a defender (#1), hit him with a Shammgod, then dunk on his teammate (#2). The posterized teammate (I'm not going to say his name because he's a former Ballislife All-American) probably was more mad at his own teammate than Fultz for ending up on that poster.
The CSUF player (#3) was probably thinking his 1-hand power dunk was going to be something to tweet about after the game. Instead, it turned into a chase-down block LeBron would give props to.
This clip is from Fultz' junior year. Shout out to the Roosevelt defender (#4) who made a great effort to block the dunk. He just jumped a little too early.
Go to the 0:58 mark of this compilation mix to watch Fultz pull out the Avery Johnson/Rondo ball fake on one Cal defender (#5) and then throw down a dunk with another Cal defender (#6) on his back.
I'm beginning to see a pattern here: Fultz blows by a defender (#7) and the defender's teammate (#8) ends up getting dunked on.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was a similar situation...
Lucky for him (#8), we don't have any video proof.
This video has 12 dislikes and I'm pretty sure all 12 came from the 6'10 defender (#9) who got dunked on by Fultz and his AAU teammate Mark Vital in the same game.
Go to the 2 minute mark of this mix to watch Fultz throw down a dunk over a Colorado defender (#10) on his way to a NCAA career-high 38 points. If it wasn't bad enough the defender got dunked on, a photographer was there to capture the dunk and the defender closing his eyes and praying he wouldn't end up on a poster.
Screw keeping the list to 10, I don't think any of the defenders in this senior year mix of Fultz would care to buy him a gift either. But, I'm sure a few of them will be telling their kids one day, "That man broke my ankles" or "He once put me on a poster."

]]>"Markelle's a great player, but I feel I'm better than him. I think I can lead a team better than him. Obviously he's a great scorer -- he's a great player, so I'm not taking that away from him."
LaVar is that you?
I'm kidding! But, when you are a potential #1 pick in a stocked NBA draft, you should believe you are better than any and every other player in your class and you should be able to go on to ESPN, while wearing your family's brand, while trying not to stare too hard at the lovely Cari Champion, and say with a dead a$$ serious face you are the best and want to be the best ever. Now, I'm not so sure every GM feels Lonzo Ball is worthy of the #1 pick over Washington's Markelle Fultz but I've heard some good arguments from people like Bill Simmons on why Ball should be the top pick and how he can fit in with any team in the league.
With that said, the #1 pick will probably be Markelle Fultz.
"If you got a kid that makes everybody better, you mean to tell me you wouldn't take him over a guy that's averaging 40 points but the team's losing?? If you wanna winner, you pick my boy."

Markelle Fultz would probably like to forget about the Huskies loss to the Horned Frogs this past weekend, but I can't. The future NBA lottery pick had one of the most spectacular plays of the college season so far and I'm shocked it didn't generate much noise. With 16 minutes left in the 2nd half, Fultz stole an inbound pass, hit a defender with a Shammgod and then dunked on another.
He finished the game with 27 points before fouling out with seven minutes left in regulation.
"He was on his way to 40," said Washington coach Lorenzo Romar about Fultz, who also had five steals, four rebounds and four assists. "He got going. When he gets going, he's something."
He's something alright. Something really special. ?He's the only player in the NCAA averaging over 20 points, six rebounds and five assists; He was one point and two rebounds away from a triple-double in his previous game; He started his college career off with 30/7/6 against Yale and 35 points on 10 of 14 shooting vs CS Fullerton. The Huskies were also on a four-game winning streak before the loss.
Fultz and the Huskies will have a shot at payback tonight in a rematch with the Horned Frogs, so don't be surprised if you see a post tomorrow about Fultz called, "Payback is a MF!" You can decide if the MF stands for Markelle Fultz or something else.

View my NBPA Top 100 Camp Recap No. 2 | Link
All week at the 2015 NBPA Top 100 Camp, the talk of the camp was the dominance of the big men. Sky scrapers such as 7-foot Thon Maker of Orangeville (Canada), 6-foot-10 Edrice Adebayo of Northside (Pinetown, N.C.) and 6-foot-11 Udoka Azubuike of Potter's House Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) dominated headlines and dominated in many statistical categories.
Basketball at all levels, however, has become a guard's game, so it's only fitting the camp's top overall backcourt performer, 6-foot-3 rising junior Trevon Duval from St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.), led his team to the team championship with two sensational performances on the camp's final day.
In the semifinals, Duval netted 30 points (the camp's individual single-game high mark) on 11-of-14 shooting in the Cavaliers' 90-75 win over the Wizards. Duval made both his 3-point attempts, converted all six of his free throw attempts, collected four rebounds and dished out five assists against two turnovers. In the championship game, Duval set the tone early with his gamesmanship and ability to create for teammates -- or score when necessary. Duval scored a team-high 16 points and added five rebounds and five assists in the Cav's 78-75 victory over the Maker-led Rockets.
NBPA Top 100 Camp Sat. Highlights Feat: DJ Harvey, Billy Preston Markelle Fultz & More
Duval is a prototype of the new age lead guard who is big enough and skilled enough to interchange between the point and shooting guard position and can score with regularity -- in addition to handling the duties of running a team. At the highest levels of the game, a point guard has to keep defenses honest as a scoring threat and with his strong frame and skills, Duval fits that mold perfectly.
Duval finished the camp tied for No. 10 in scoring (13.3 ppg) with teammate Markelle Fultz of DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Md.), a 6-foot-5 rising senior. Duval led the camp in assists (4.7 apg) and was just as good at the point guard slot as he was at the two-guard. When 6-foot-1 rising junior Matt Coleman of Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) was in the game, Duval slid over to the two-guard spot with no drop off.
As for Fultz, he capped off a strong week with 11 points and four assists in the championship game for the Cavs, who had to win a six-minute, play-in game early Saturday morning to advance in the championship bracket. Fultz's play in the spring and summer makes him one of the fastest-rising players in the national 2016 class. He played confidently all week and combines good athleticism with deep range on his shooting stroke.
In the semis, Fultz was one of three Cavs players to score 10 points. Six-foot-7 rising senior Mario Kegler of Arlington County Day (Jacksonville, Fla.) and 6-foot-10 rising senior Jethro Tshishumpa of Mountain Mission (Gundy, Va.) were the others to hit double figures. In the title game, Kegler and 6-foot-6 Sam Cuncliffe of Rainier Beach (Seattle) joined Duval and Fultz as double-digit scorers with 12 points each.
Maker capped off his week with game-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game and was named MVP of this year's NBPA Top 100 Camp. Maker, who will remain in the 2016 class and could challenge names such as Josh Jackson of Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.) and Harry Giles of Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.) as its top prospect, was productive and engaged the entire week. He finished No. 2 in the camp in scoring (15.8 ppg) behind Adebayo and No. 1 in rebounding (7.9 rpg) and No. 5 in blocked shots (1.2 bpg).
Maker received plenty of defensive attention all week and his presence helped open up opportunities and scoring lanes for other players on his team. One Rockets player who particularly took advantage as the week wore on was 6-foot guard Xavier Simpson of Central Catholic (Lima, Ohio). In fact, NBPA Top 100 Camp committee member Frank Burlison of BurlisonOnBasketball.com felt Simpson was the Rockets' best player over the final six games of camp. After his 11-of 13 performance for 25 points on Thursday night, Simpson stayed hot and had standout scoring games on an efficient number of shots. He had outings of 14 points, 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting with 5 rebounds and 5 assists, 13 points, 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting in the semifinals and 15 points, 5 rebounds, and three assists in the title game.
Joining Maker, Simpson, Fultz, Duval, Adebayo, and Azubuike on the 12-man NBPA Top 100 Camp All-American team were 6-foot-8 rising senior Omari Spellman of MacDuffie School (Granby, Mass.), 6-foot-3 rising senior Frank Jackson of Lone Peak (Highland, Utah), 7-foot rising junior DeAndre Ayton of Balboa City School (San Diego, Calif.), 6-foot-3 rising senior Kyle Guy of Lawrence Central (Indianapolis), 6-foot-9 rising junior Billy Preston of Prime Prep (Dallas) and 6-foot-4 rising junior Hamidou Diallo of Woodstock Academy (Woodstock, Conn.).
Trae Young and Gary Trent Jr. Battle - See the video here - Link
Not often in a competitive setting such as the NBPA Top 100 Camp do you get two players who go at it playground style. "Battling" is usually reserved for outdoors or in a controlled setting such as the BallUp tour. Among elite high school players, they don't play outdoors as much as previous generations and usually can't sustain the crowd in a battle because they haven't developed enough playground style moves to keep it entertaining beyond a few possessions.
Still, it was highly entertaining to see guards Trae Young of Norman (Norman Okla.) and Gary Trent Jr. of Apple Valley (Apple Valley, Minn.) go at it in a Saturday game. They didn't use a lot of trick moves, but were draining deep 3-pointers and jump shots while guarding each other, while their teammates cleared out in order for the duo to take center stage. Teammates on the bench and other campers got engaged and were supportive of the battle and Young shut it down when he nailed an off-balance jumper in front of the bench.
Although this camp was not a traditional setting for a battle, it was quite entertaining.
Here's more standouts from the NBPA Top 100 Camp that we wanted to prominently mention (listed alphabetically):
D.J. Harvey, DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Md.) 6-6 SF 2017: Joined high school teammate Markelle Fultz as a standout at this camp with steady performances. Harvey used his strong frame and a variety of moves around the basket to score at an efficient pace. Harvey was No. 8 overall in points (109) and averaged 12.1 ppg. Fultz averaged 13.3 ppg.
Temple Gibbs, Seton Hall Prep (Scott Plains, N.J.) 6-4 SG 2016: One of those players who grows on you when you realize his impact on the outcome of games. Gibbs is not an elite athlete, but he knows how to use his body to finish with contact and around bigger players. He can also score in bunches. In one camp game, Gibbs converted a 4-point play and scored the game-winning lay-up.
Brandon McCoy, Morse (San Diego, Calif.) 6-11 C 2017: This rising junior started on the title-winning Cavs club and made positive strides, despite statistics that were not overwhelming. McCoy knows what he is and rarely takes a bad shot and does anything out of his element. He was battling on the boards and did a good job of being in the right spots in order for his team's scorers to excel. McCoy is a shade below the very best prospects in the national 2017 class, but is a bonafide McDonald's All-American candidate.
Billy Preston, Prime Prep (Dallas, Texas) 6-9 SF 2017: Was No. 3 overall in total points (123) and tied with Blazers teammate Frank Jackson for No. 4 in scoring (15.4 ppg). Preston continues to make strides in his overall offensive ability, but must continue to work on executing quick offensive moves because often times the ball stops once he touches it. On too many possessions, teammates stood around while he operated and it would expand his game if they played off him better. Still, there is a lot to like about his overall game and you have to love Preston's confidence. When pressed to get his opinion on whom is the top player in the 2017 class, Preston is always quick to say, "I am."
