Chicago is a basketball Mecca! Each spring the city's top AAU travel teams hit the road but rarely play against each other. At the Chicago Elite Invitational Meanstreets EYBL 17U squad faced Team Rose (adidas) squad. This also happened to be Derrick Rose's former AAU team versus his namesake current team. Rose's brother Reggie Rose sat courtside for this one.

Meanstreets has a loaded squad including Jalen Washington, Andre AJ Casey Jr, Ty Rodgers, Robbie Avila and Dalen Davis. Team Rose tough squad includes Xavier Amos, Adidas Davis, Tye Banks, Justin Page and more. It was a well-played, intense, physical game.

In the end, Meanstreets got the W and picked up the championship but hopefully these teams will play again!

Nike EYBL Teams usually spend April playing on the Nike Circuit on the road to Peach Jam. 2021 is different so teams are scattered across the nation at regional and local events. 2 of the top Nike teams in the Midwest battled at Chi Town Tipoff in Aurora Illinois (near Chicago) on the Prep Hoops Circuit.

Nike Meanstreets led by top 2022 stars AJ Casey, Jalen Washington and Ty Rogers faced Brad Beal Elite led by elite guards Nick Smith and Jeremy Fears among others (Brandon Miller wasn't in Aurora). As expected it was a close game throughout with both team making runs in front of the biggest crowd of the weekend at M14. The stars shined. In the end Kam Craft made the final shot of the game to win it for Meanstreets at the buzzer 70-69 but you'll want to see ALL the highlights!

Patrick Baldwin Jr. is the most talked about incoming freshman in Chicago-area high school basketball.
The son of Northwestern assistant coach and former star Patrick Baldwin, young Patrick Jr will attend Loyola Academy in nearby Wilmette, IL in the Class of 2021.
We caught 6'5, 14 year old Patrick Baldwin's debut at the annual Riverside-Brookfield Summer Shootout which features the top 40 High school basketball teams from Chicago and a few from beyond.
Loyola had an up and down first day, but won out on day 2, finishing in fourth place overall. Patrick Baldwin showed his sweet shooting stroke and deep range throughout the tournament.
Keep in mind Patrick just graduated 8th grade and most of his teammates and opponents are going into their senior and junior years of High School.

Versatile 6-foot-6 Nojel Eastern is able to play both guard positions and small forward.
A point guard in a shooting guard's body, Eastern's strengths include his size, passing ability, court vision and improved ball-handling
While a mixtape might not show it, Nojel plays very unselfishly (sometimes to a fault) and is also a solid rebounder. The Evanston Township High School (near Chicago) guard has been on the radar since his freshman season, going 23-6 last season.
Nojel averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks for the season, earning many accolades including Two-time Central Suburban League All-Conference player, All-Tournament at King of Bluegrass (Kentucky), Sun Times All Area Team and Chicago Tribune All-State special mention.
In 2016-17, the Wildkits are looking to play downstate for a state title after winning the Central Suburban League South a regional title last season.

Tyler Beard is no doubt one of the most physically gifted 14 year old basketball players in the Chicago area these days. But 6'1 Beard is also keeping the art of the Point guard alive by consistently sharing the ball with his open teammates. With quiet confidence, Tyler slashes to the rim at will and blocks opponents shots from behind.
He utilizes his unique athleticism and explosiveness and displays a high basketball IQ for such a young player. This combination made him nearly unstoppable against his peers (in middle school).
While it's still a limited sample size, Tyler Beard's basketball potential is very high.

Next fall Tyler will enroll at Whitney Young HS in Chicago where Philadelphia 76ers Jahlil Okafor helped the Dolphins win the 2014 Illinois basketball state title.

Kentucky point guard Tyler Ulis Spent His Summer Breaking Ankles at Chileague!

Kentucky point guard Tyler Ulis put on a show in front of family and friends, playing in the Nike Chi League Pro Am over the past few weeks.

Home in the Chicago area over the summer, Ulis played 3 games with Meanstreets, leading them to 2 wins and 1 narrow semi-final loss at Chicago's premiere summer basketball tournament. Over 3 intense games, the 5'9 point guard averaged 18.3 points, 3.7 assists, 3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, going 18-21 from the free throw line (85.7%).

Tyler was fearless at both ends of the floor playing against seasoned, current overseas pros and D League players, some with NBA experience. He was a calm, vocal leader on the floor while still thrilling the raucous crowds with his elite ball-handling and passing skills.

Still just 19 years old, Tyler always seemed to find the open man down the court. Doubts will always linger about Ulis' size but Kentucky fans and teammates don't doubt their point guard. Big Blue Nation fans will be pleased to see their unselfish leader having such success in his summer mixtape, playing alongside many new and unfamiliar teammates.

Now Ulis is ready to return to Lexington to lead the Kentucky Wildcats.

Billed as a game for the ages between top Junior Jahlil Okafor and #1 Whitney Young (18-2) vs top Senior (Duke Commit) Jabari Parker and 3-time defending state-champ #2 Simeon (18-2), fans at home and in the stands at Chicago State got their money’s worth.
In the end, both Okafor (8pts) and Parker (7pts) finished in single-digits while Simeon’s Illinois University-bound backcourt (Kendrick Nunn and Jaylon Tate) led the way to a 44-41 win.
The game’s leading scorer was Young’s 6’4 junior LJ Peak, (20pts) a transfer from South Carolina. He scored 14 in the 3rd quarter to tie the game after 3.

6’3 senior Kendrick Nunn put on an aerial display for nearly 1,500 Chicago Simeon students, family and fans at their annual preseason “Wolverine Madness.” Arguably Illinois’ #2 player in the loaded Class of 2013, Nunn will try to lead preseason #1 Simeon to a 4th consecutive Illinois state championship (alongside fellow senior teammates like Jabari Parker, Kendall Pollard (Dayton), Jaylon Tate (Illinois), Russell Woods, Q. Davis (Chicago State) and more).
The varsity players wore specially made BENJI shirts to honor former Simeon star player Benjamin "Benji" Wilson Jr. to whom their gym was dedicated prior to the rally.
Nunn has signed to play college ball in the Big Ten at the University of Illinois.

But last season Davis played WAY under the radar for Chicago's Perspectives Charter (Class of 2011), a tiny public school on the city's South Side. As a 6'10 senior, Anthony Davis came out of nowhere to finish #1 ESPN, #1 Scout, #2 Rivals in his class. He was a 2011 McDonald's All American and 2011 Jordan Brand All American (MVP).
A dominant force on offense + defense, he could do everything on the court in high school just like he does in college. Anthony Davis averaged 32 points, 22 rebounds, and 7 blocks as a senior playing in the Chicago Public League's Blue Division.
