34-year-old LeBron James is entering his 17th NBA season with an NBA2K overall rating of 97! That rating puts him right at the top, alongside 28-year-old NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and a point above 24-year-old NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo!

For the 7th year in a row, NBA2K19 cover athlete LeBron James has had the highest 2K rating. If you want to count ties, then he has had the highest rating in 10 out of the last 12 games; Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Garnett and Chris Paul (people forget how great he was in 2008, when he was arguably robbed of the MVP award) were the other players to share the top spot with the King. But, LeBron has never reached a rating of 100, which has only been reached once: MDE Shaq in NBA2K received the perfect rating during his 3-Peat days in Los Angeles.

Thanks to NBA2K19 Launch Party attendee (and owner of one of my favorite YouTube channels) Mike Korzemba, we now know the ratings for every starting lineup in the upcoming game that continues to keep people from giving NBA Live a second chance since Jesus Bynum killed the franchise.

I'm not going to debate any of the very debatable ratings but here's a few random things I noticed.

• Lowest rating: Tony Snell (73)
• Lauri Markkanen (82) has the highest rating on the Bulls
• The Cavs JR Smith & Cedi Osman have the same score (75)
• They have Rajon Rondo, KCP, JaVale McGee, Brandon Ingram and LeBron as the starters for the Lakers
• The Celtics & Warriors are the only teams without a player in the 70s. The Nuggest almost made the list but Will Barton was a 79.
• Every starter on the Hawks and Kings is less than 80. The Knicks, Nets, Clippers, Hornets and Magic each have 1 player in the 80s

The King makes his return to the cover of NBA2K as the cover athlete for the "20th Anniversary Edition."

Yes, it's really been two decades since Allen Iverson appeared on the cover of NBA 2K for the Sega Dreamcast. And it's been five years since LeBron (as a member of the Miami Heat) was featured on the cover of NBA 2K14. And it's been 1 year since they put Kyrie Irving in a Cavs uniform on the cover of NBA 2K18. Oops! Late Tuesday afternoon, we reposted NBA2K's top 10 small forwards in 2K18 on our IG account. The two most common questions we kept seeing on the post was, "Why is Andrew Wiggins over (no hoodie) Carmelo Anthony?" and "Where is Rudy Gay?" The new San Antonio small forward joined the conversation and expressed his anger with a few emojis.

He later went to Twitter to elaborate on how he felt seeing his name left off a list with Harrison Barnes and Danilo Gallinari on it.

"Crock of BS. Wait till this season."

The tweet got a "LOL" from Damian Lillard and a couple hundred comments from supporters who felt Gay should have been at least an 81 . He only played 30 games for the Kings last season due to an Achilles injury but scored 20+ in half of them, including a 30 & 12 and 29 & 14 game. He also had a 22/8/8 performance and back-to-back games with 4 blocks.

KEVIN DURANT ON GAY

Gay did get some respect earlier in the week. During Kevin Durant's latest appearance on The Ringer's Bill Simmons podcast, KD was asked about players that used to give him the most problems and he named Gay, who was averaging over 20 points a game for the Grizzlies when KD entered the league.

During their first meeting -- KD's fifth game of his career -- Gay had 25 points on 8 of 19 shooting and 10 boards, while KD missed 14 of his 17 shots and finished with 17 points. They met again later in the month and it was another L for KD's Sonics as he struggled again, hitting just 2 of 8 shots.

KD has had his share of payback games over the past decade but Gay is still giving him buckets too. Here's a 2015 throwback game with the two small forwards going for 20 a piece.

During the Simmons' podcast, KD was also asked if he's ever been happy with his 2K rating and his response was, "It can change. Once you have a nice week it will change so get some buckets."

So there it is Rudy, just treat defenders like you used to treat a young KD and your rating will change.

The "Hoodie Melo" phenomenon continues to grow.

On Saturday, 2K revealed Carmelo Anthony's rating of 84. Some fans thought it was too low and even disrespectful considering the top rookies have a rating of 80, Myles Turner is an 84 and players like Devin Booker, Bradley Beal and Gordon Hayward are higher. But the question most fans had for 2K was, "What rating would Hoodie Melo have?"

2K responded by giving the summer hero a game-high rating of 98 -- one more than LeBron James.

Dwyane Wade thought his NBA2K18 rating of 84 was too low (for reference, Bradley Beal is 87 and D'Angelo Russell is 80) and the majority of the internet complained that LeBron should have been higher than 97, even though it's the highest in the game and two more than Kawhi Leonard and one more than Kevin Durant.

I think 97 is just fine for now and in honor of him having the highest rating in 2K18, I wanted to look back at the evolution of LeBron in video games, starting in 2004 when the game was known as ESPN NBA basketball and he was just a 78. If you think that's low, he was a 69 in NBA Live!

On Thursday, 2017 MVP runner-up James Harden was announced as the NBA Live 18 cover athlete. The last athlete to appear on a Live cover was MVP Russell Westbrook for Live 16 (there wasn't a NBA Live 17 release) and the last Houston Rockets to appear on a Live cover was Steve Francis back in 2002.

Another round of NBA2K18 ratings came out on Monday, including the Warriors Kevin Durant (96), Steph Curry (94) and Nick Young (74). Young, who has been killing the Drew League competition over the past couple of weeks, jokingly tweeted, "I should be a 99 but I guess 74 is good for now until the season starts #ThisSomeBull #LOL."

Another person who thought his 2K ratings was too low was new Hornet Dwight Howard, who seriously tweeted, "81-Hmmmm, let's see after this season #HumbleButAlwaysWorkin" after seeing his rating of 81.

As expected, a bunch of fans laughed at his response and told the former 8 x All-NBA player his rating was too high. Surprisingly, Howard didn't fire back at anybody but he did like this tweet, "All I see is people hating on this man when at the end of the day y'all need to realize he a better player than all of y'all trolls."

In case you were wondering how his current rating compares to his past years, it's two points below his final year in Houston, five points less than his second season in the league and 14 less than his first season with the Lakers!

On Monday, NBA2K released the first official NBA2K18 screenshots and they did a pretty good job of making Isaiah Thomas' armpit hairs look realistic. They also did a good job of recreating every other bit of the Boston All-Star including his tattoos and silly looking General Electric logo that will be on all the Boston Celtics jerseys next season.

Since I was so impressed with the new screenshot, thought Thomas would be a good choice to see how much he's changed since coming into the league as the last pick in the 2011 NBA Draft an turning into a All-NBA 2nd Teamer.

Considering Kyrie Irving is on the cover of NBA2K18 you would probably think his 2K rating would be a point or two higher than it should be. Not only was it not too high, it was arguably disrespectfully low at 90.  With that said, 90 is the highest it's ever been and for a three-year span, 2K actually dropped his rating.

Believe it or not, this NBA 2k18 ad is the first ad featuring Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. Back in 2008, the NBA made a bunch of playoff commercials featuring players in a split screen and one of them (Fear) did feature Shaq and his former teammate, but I'm not counting it because it was for the NBA and they filmed them separately -- although I'm 99.9% sure the two weren't in the same room for this 2K commercial.

How is it possible that it took 21 years to bring these two together for an endorsement? That's because Shaq was with Reebok when Kobe signed with Adidas and then later Nike. Shaq did Taco Bell ads while Kobe chose McDonalds. Shaq has had deals with drink makers Pepsi, Arizona and Vitamin Water; Kobe signed with Sprite and Vitamin Water before putting his own money behind BodyArmor. Shaq pushed Nestle bars while Kobe pushed Nutella, who like McDonalds, dropped him because of the 2004 rape case. They both also had deals with Spalding but at different times and that is why the two former NBA2K cover athletes -- Shaq in 06 & 07, Kobe in 10 -- have never been featured in the same ad until now.

Back to the 2K18 game, it carries a retail price of $150 for the Legend edition, which makes me think 2K recently hired LaVar Ball. Obviously I'm kidding because of the Big Baller Brand CEO was on the 2K payroll the price would probably have another zero at the end and the cover would probably look like this...

In honor of the release of NBA2K17, we are looking back at past versions and enjoying the evolution of certain players in the game over the past decade. Today we are looking at LeBron James, who made his 2K debut in "ESPN NBA Basketball" back in 2003. This edition was the first and only one to not have 2K in the title and the first of two to feature ESPN in the title; ESPN's name was removed after the network signed a deal with EA Sports and then Sega sold the series to publishing label Take-Two Interactive. The edition was also the 5th and last to feature Allen Iverson on the cover.

Although LeBron was a rookie, 78 seemed a little low for the can't-miss superstar, who went on to put up some of the best rookie numbers ever. He jumped up 10 points for his sophomore campaign, 9 more to 97 in his 3rd season and was a 99 in NBA2K9.

If you were wondering about the evolution of LeBron in the NBA Live franchise, here it is and yes they did give a rookie LeBron a rating of 69!

On Wednesday, a bunch of NBA players tweeted out their NBA2k17 ratings along with some amusing comments, while other NBA players tweeted at Ronnie2k asking for their rating.

The funniest exchange came when Spurs (steal of the draft) Dejounte Murray asked for his rating and #1 pick Ben Simmons replied with a 1.  When Murray responded by saying he was going to give "Benjamin" straight buckets, Simmons replied, "XBox or PS?"

Well, it's been 15 years since 2k came in some of our lives and I'm assuming you are celebrating an anniversary with 2k right now - although you occasionally still call up Live for a quickie and see if there's any sparks still there.

Me personally, I still occasionally play with the vintage Live 95 on SNES. During last night's 2k16 launch party, the beautiful Alexis Morgan got a great laugh out of cover athlete Steph Curry and his beautiful wife, Ayesha, when she pulled out the now famous custom 2k16 cover showing Riley Curry. ?Proud Dad Steph said he has this image on his phone and whoever created it is a "genius."

So who is the genius behind the cover?

What really sucks for content creators today is it's really hard to retain credit for something you created. Even if you place a watermark on the work, people will often chop it off, add their touches and redistribute it. Then usually one of those remixed copies are the ones that gets picked up by an influential blogger or website and they end up tipping their hat to the person who has the most popular version not the one with the original. That's what happened to Nick Duke.

Nick Duke - @NickDukeMusic on Twitter - was the creator of the Riley Curry image. He posted it on this twitter account on June 4th of 2015 and within an hour that image was being reposted on thousands of other accounts and then a few major sites shared the image and credited the wrong person.

So is it OK to date a girl who owns other NBA jerseys? Yes and no, it depends on the player but in the case of Damian Lillard, it's never OK. Dame represents cold-blooded killers who are constantly doubted but always end up making their critics eat their words. So unless having a girlfriend that you know is always going to make you little silly and prove you wrong sounds like fun, I suggest you check your girls closet and look for the Portland jersey with the number 0 on it.
