5'10" Chance Greene might not get picked first in your local area pick-up game. He also might not get picked second or third or even fourth, reality is, Chance Greene is not an intimidating looking basketball player. However, reality also is, 5'10" Chance Greene can flat out ball. In the past, high school hoops in North Carolina has been about the high flyers, the freak athletes, the men among boys. Now, with Charlotte native and reigning NBA MVP Steph Curry blazing the big stage, a grassroots shift has begun. A shift that includes shooters with quick releases and a nice handle that can consistently get you three points instead of just two. The same type of players that draw defenses out, opening up the lane for the post guys, and demand help-side defense to step up allowing for other shooters to get open. A player with flash and flare that ultimately gets the job done and wins basketball games. This is the type of player Chance Greene is. A little turnover prone at times, Greene continues to learn the game. Alongside 6'10" teammate and future UVA big, Jay Huff, Voyager Academy finished this season in the NCHSAA with a 32-4 record en route to winning a 1A State Championship. According to MaxPreps.com, Greene finished the season averaging 15 points and just under 6 assists per game. Greene is getting DIII looks but I'd say there should be a solid DII roster spot with his name on it. WAKE UP COACHES, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

I know. I know. Why are we over hyping some middle school kid and calling him the next Steph Curry?  We're not. We aren't calling him the next anything. We are just doing exactly what the little hooper was doing: having fun. And we thought others would find him as entertaining as we did, so here we are.

But I must mention that Steph Curry was an unknown hooper at that age too.  And, even though he had game, lots of potential, one of the best shooters ever as a Dad, and an appearance in a Burger King commercial (for whatever that's worth), Curry was an unheralded high school prospect that nobody, but probably Steph and his family, thought was NBA material. Look at him now!

Oh, I also forgot to mention the little hooper's name, it's Curry, Jerell Curry.

I remember in the 90s hearing a small minority of people say Michael Jordan was hurting basketball because kids are going to just want to dunk. Then in 2000, I was hearing the same type of people criticize Allen Iverson's game and the And1 streetballers for making kids just want to break ankles. ?Now we have individuals saying?Steph Curry has "hurt" basketball because of his 3-point shot attempts. ?This type of criticism isn't surprising,?but hearing Curry's former coach and current ABC analyst Mark Jackson say the following during the Christmas day game between the Warriors and Cavs, did surprise some.

“I’ve thought about this one. Steph Curry’s great. Steph Curry’s the MVP. He’s a champion. Understand what I’m saying when I say this. To a degree, he’s hurt the game. And what I mean by that is, I go into high school gyms, I watch these kids, and the first thing they do is run to the 3-point line. You are not Steph Curry. Work on the other aspects of the game. People think that he’s just a knock-down shooter. That’s not why he’s the MVP. He’s a complete basketball player.”

Unfortunately most people are just going to hear a sound byte - "he's hurt the game" - from the above statement or read the title of a post like this on a social media network and respond without fully understanding what Jackson was trying to say. Even Steph Curry seemed a little confused when he was told by Yahoo Sports of the comments.

"I have to talk to him," Curry replied with a chuckle. "I don't know what he means by that. If you can shoot, shoot. If you can't, stop."

Same goes for Curry's teammate Andrew Bogut but he also sounded like he doesn't really care what Jackson has to say.

"Anything he says, you can take that with a grain of salt," Bogut said. "And you can quote me on that."

MAYBE IT'S MY FAULT

Any?time I hear anybody (i'm not referring to Mark Jackson) blame any NBA great for any "wrong" they have caused during the evolution of the NBA and/or how basketball is played at any level at any time, I just tell them to watch this Michael Jordan commercial from 2009.

The slogan for start-up company CoachUp is "MVPs aren't born. MVPs are made." So it's only fitting they would have MVP Steph Curry represent the company and star in their first commercial called "Action Speak Louder Than Words."

Curry might be the darling of the NBA now -- racking up awards and accolades while appearing on magazine and video game covers -- but he was overlooked and undervalued by scouts and experts throughout much of his journey to the league. All you have to do is look at the following high school ranking image of Steph to either see how far he's come or how wrong scouts were. Rivals had him as a 3-star recruit and didn't even rank him within the state. We didn't show him much love either and sadly have no Curry high school clips in our archive; We do have plenty of footage of other high profile guards from his high school class, who are no longer in the league or never made it.

Speaking of players who never made it to the league, do you recognize any of these names: Lewis Witcher, Nigel Munson or Tyrone Appleton? I'm assuming no but those are the three players Virginia Tech -- the college Steph's parents attended -- gave scholarships to instead of Steph.

“It sucked a little bit, for sure," said Curry. "It was a sore spot, for sure.”

With no offer from VT or any major school, Curry attended Davidson, where he would average 22 points per game as a freshman and take the team to the Elite 8. Despite an impressive showing in college, the draft reports still questioned his athleticism, ball handling and leadership.

“Stephen’s explosiveness and athleticism are below standard.” said a 2009 Draft report Curry read in the CoachUp commercial. “He’s not a great finisher around the basket. He needs to considerably improve as a ball handler … Stephen must develop as a point guard to make it in the league.”

Then came the 2009 NBA draft. A draft where the TWolves selected back-to-back point guards with the 5th and 6th pick and neither was named Stephen Curry. A draft that saw Curry become the 5th guard picked when the Golden State Warriors made the wise decision of picking up their future MVP and champion.

“Over the years, I’ve been doubted and questioned – my NBA scouting report represents what some ‘experts’ said about my ability,” said Curry in a press release for the CoachUp. “But, no matter what people said, I always blocked them out and kept training.  That dedication and commitment to the game I love, the long hours spent honing my skills one-on-one with my coaches, is what ultimately drove my success.”

SUCCESS IS NOT AN ACCIDENT

Here's a great video by Coach Alan Stein of Stronger Team who did take notice of Curry back in high school, when he attended a Kobe Bryant Skills Camp.

Stephen Curry of the World Champion Golden State Warriors represents the current state of the game. The 6-foot-3 guard out of Davidson is a point guard by trade and one of the greatest shooters the game has ever seen. He's the leader of a new era of lead guards that can score as effectively as they can run a team. Many teams nowadays utilize the two best guards on its team -- with no regard for position.

UConn won the NCAA title in 2014 with that philosophy and Golden State employed it as well -- and won 67 games and the NBA title utilizing small lineups. Golden State's strategy is obviously working and what Curry represents to basketball fans is working, too -- he recently surpassed LeBron James for the top spot among individual NBA jersey sales.

Curry had the ear of the guards in attendance at the Stephen Curry Select Camp and throughout the four-day camp at St. Joseph (Alameda, Calif.) led the workouts with prototype drill samples and hands-on instruction. The campers appreciated the work of Under Armour's top hoops pitchman.

Many of the individual drills on Tuesday focused on scoring from the guard position and finishing with secondary moves. The campers practiced a series of stepbacks, floaters and runners, but it's no surprise one of the top performers was an explosive guard who rarely settles for shots going away from the basket -- 6-foot-2 2016 point guard Dennis Smith Jr. of Trinity Christian (Fayetteville, N.C.). Smith caught Curry off guard on the final day with a dunk over his defender during a 1 on 1 drill. (See it here)

The uncommitted prospect was eager to take in the instruction and was arguably the most explosive guard in simulated 4-on-4 situations. Smith does need to work on consistency in his jump shot, but he surely doesn't lack confidence in his ability. In 1-on-1 situations, he was nearly impossible to stop. On the camp's final day, there was a 1-and-1 competition and Smith won, besting 6-foot-8 2017 Michael Porter Jr. of Father Tolton (Columbia, Mo.) in the finals.

Porter attended the camp's final three days after leaving the Nike Basketball Academy in Los Angeles and made quite the impression with his vast scoring package and shooting touch. Porter and 6-foot-2 2017 Trevon Duval of St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.), who we rated as the top performer at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, were named co-MVPs of the SC30 Camp.

Porter and 6-foot-9 Billy Preston of Prime Prep (Dallas), who also attended the Nike Basketball Academy, were by far the tallest campers in attendance -- and were the only two players who national scouts wouldn't consider true guards. Both have some guard skill, but need to work on exploding out of their triple threats as some of the smaller guards are able to do in drills. Not all of their offensive moves are explosive, but the talent they possess at their size is impressive nonetheless. As one camp coach said about Preston: "He's a tough shot taker, but he's also a tough shot maker."

Jaylen Hands, a 6-foot-2 2017 prospect out of Foothills Christian (El Cajon, Calif.), was one of the campers who thrives on the ball and off it equally well. The drills and 4-on-4 play emphasized coordination and quick decision-making and Hands was impressive scoring or making the right reads to set up teammates. Hands has deep range on his jump shot and made defenders pay if they sagged off on him during simulations. He also got in the key at will using an explosive first step and made defenders pay with a nice series of drop off passes and ball reversals. Once Hands gains strength in his lower extremities so he isn't knock away from open driving lanes or knocked off balance, he'll be in the conversation as one of the top point guard prospects in the country.

Hands teamed up with Porter, 6-foot-1 2016 Jaylen Fisher of Bolton (Cordova, Tenn.) and collegian Bryant McIntosh (Northwestern) to win a majority of the quick simulation games during 4-on-4s where the defensive team that got the stop or the offensive team that scored stayed on the court while another team waiting to play defense was stationed on the opposite end of the court.

Fisher is ultra competitive and tough around the rim in keeping plays alive.

Smith's quartet with 6-foot-3 2017 Jalek Felton of Mullins (Mullins, S.C.), 6-foot 2016 Seventh Woods of Hammond (Columbia, S.C.) and collegian Isaiah Whitehead (Seton Hall) also had a nice run of victories.

Woods displayed quick hands on defense and Felton explosive moves on the baseline.

Another camp standout was Michael Bibby Jr., the son of the former NBA guard and a rising senior at Shadow Mountain (Phoenix, Ariz.). Bibby Jr. knocked down a high percentage of jump shots and excelled in situations where he played off Curry, whose father Dell also played in the NBA. Dell was in attendance offering instruction alongside his son.

Although Stephen Curry is a shooter, ?he's still 6'3 so when he did a reverse dunk at a basketball camp last week, I wasn't that impressed. ?

On Monday at his Stephen Curry Select Camp, he stepped it up a little and threw down a 360 (more like 180 but it will pass as a 360) and I'll admit I was little impressed.

Games 1 and 5 of the Warriors and Rockets series ended the same way - with a scene stealing performance by Riley Curry.  Steph's adorable 2 year old daughter made her return to the podium after the Warriors eliminated the Rockets on Wednesday night and once again was the focus of the Q&A which probably annoyed ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Skip Bayless who were both silent on Twitter about the topic last night.

"I think she's taking advantage of the moment for sure. She's way too comfortable" said Curry about his daughter.

She also got a head start on generating "aaaaaahhhhs" when she did her Dad's trademark chest tap and point to the sky celebration after the game and before the conference.

Although Daddy Curry was off on his shot, missing 14 of 21 shots and 8 of 11 3s, he still had 26 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals in the 14 point victory.

RILEY VS LEBRON PT2

Most people probably don't remember this, but the first time we talked about Riley was 2 years ago during the 2013 NBA Finals. After a horrible first half by LeBron vs the Spurs in GM3, Curry mocked James by posting a vine clip of his then 1 year old daughter dunking and then said she has half as many points as LeBron.  I have a pretty good feeling LeBron wont be having too many 4 point halves vs Curry and the Warriors next month and I also have a feeling we will be seeing Riley at another postgame conference in the near future too.

Stephen Curry was feeling it in the first half against the Suns. The NBA league leader in points scored 22 in the first half but managed just 6 points in the 2nd half which included a 4th quarter beatdown by the Suns who outscored the Warriors 36-16.

"We just made a lot of stupid plays that gave them life as opposed to putting the nail in the coffin when we had the opportunity to do that," Curry said.

But in that first half, Curry was so hot that he even knew his teammates were going to make a 3 when he passed it to them (40 second mark in the video above).

Curry finished with 10 assists and 5 steals, including this one on Plumlee, which helped him push his league leading steals number to 3.5 a game.

Here's another exceptional steal and 5 points within 5 seconds.

If you are still scrolling and reading, Curry also had 10 turnovers but I didn't want to mention that until after all the highlights.

Curry was hot against the CP3 less Clippers last night: 9 of 13 from the field, 4 of 5 from downtown and 5 of 8 from the line...well, 5 of 8 from the free throw line for Curry sounds ice cold.  The other half of the Splash Brothers was a little cold too, scoring 9 points on 4 of 11 shooting, but the rest of Curry's teammates were pretty hot as the Warriors scored 125 points on 59.1% shooting and had 7 total players in double figures.

Stephen Curry couldn't hit a shot (2-10 fg) against the Heat but did dish out 7 assist including this nice behind-the-back one to Klay Thompson who had a game-high 29 points.

Over in Washington, Kemba Walker had a nice behind the back pass to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist who dunked over Gortat and put up an impressive stat line of 12 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks in 30 minutes.

Stephen Curry and James Harden had similar offensive nights last night against their opponents.

In the Warriors win, Curry scored 20 points and was perfect from the line and hit 3 of 4 from downtown with a 4-point play.

In the Rockets win, Harden scored 21 points and was perfect from the line and hit 3 of 4 from downtown with a 4-point play

Is that coincidence really that big of a deal?  Nope but I just didn't want to make 2 separate posts for these 4-point plays which I figure fans of Curry and Harden would like to see.

I'm afraid of what KD will be doing in the next 2k commercial.  Last week he was drooling (just kidding) over Rachel DeMita while watching 2kTV  and this week he, Anthony Davis, Paul George and Steph Curry are playing in an empty 2k gym when 2 little kids, that look like they mini-Raiden's from Mortal Kombat, say "we got next" and then turn into adults with lots of muscles and lots and lots of hair on their heads.

For some reason, the group of elite NBA All-Stars look worried about playing the guys that look like the guys I play against at LA Fitness. I think they should be afraid of getting electrocuted.

I can't bring up Mortal Kombat and basketball and not show this.

The two NBA greats first crossed paths about 15 years ago at an AAU event in Charlotte, where a 10 year old KD had no idea who the son of NBA player Dell Curry was. All he knew was some "white/yellow" kid was making it rain (splash!) while scoring 35 points against his team.

The only thing funnier than the story is watching Steph crack up to it and the only thing funnier than that, is the look on Anthony Davis' face and brows (correction - brow) when he realized Steph wan't white.

As for coach Jackson, when it comes to dunking, he's more known for getting dunked on then throwing down dunks.  Tom Chambers dunk on the then Knick is often considered one of the greatest dunks of all-time.

But what many people don't know about Jackson is his trademark dunk off the bounce.

Right on cue, Stephen Curry video bombs his Dad, the great 3-point shooting Hornet and current broadcaster for the Charlotte, Dell Curry right after his Dad was talking about him during a pre-game broadcast.

Monta Ellis had the opportunity to sink his old team but it was his ex backcourt teammate Stephen Curry who was able to celebrate the game winner in last night's match-up.  Curry outscored Ellis by 12 points and finished the game with 33 points, 10 assists and a 19 footer over Shawn Marion with 1.5 seconds left.
