If you were watching hoops and buying VHS tapes in the early to mid-90s, you probably had a copy of this one next to "Michael Jordan's Come Fly With Me." I'm watching it today (the actual VHS tape, not the digital copy above) because today is the anniversary of the 1992 Dream Team winning Gold in Barcelona. The Dream Team wasn't just the greatest basketball team ever assembled, it's arguably the greatest team in sports history.

BUT, here's a very unpopular opinion: I actually believe there have been other US teams that could have beat this team if they were able to time travel and play each other during their Olympic years (ex: 92 Dream Team vs 94 Dream Team 2).

What am I smoking right?

The biggest reason why the 92 Dream Team -- with a past-his-prime Magic Johnson and barely-able-to-stand Larry Bird -- was able to dominate the Olympics by an average of 44 points a game is because the players from other countries were either too scared or star-struck to compete; Opponents were actually asking for autographs and shoes before, during and after the games. A young team like the trash-talking DT2 with Shaq, Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Shawn Kemp, Derrick Coleman, Reggie Miller and DT1 snub Dominique Wilkins wouldn't have that bow-down respect or fear of the 92 legends.

Then again, there is that story about the Dream Team absolutely destroying a team of young future pros like Chris Webber and Grant Hill.

And the Dream Team had an early 90s' Michael Jordan, who was arguably the greatest version of the greatest player of all-time.

And the Dream Team had David Robinson and Karl Malone before their MVP seasons. And Pippen before people realized he might be the most complete and versatile player in the NBA. And a fit Charles Barkley, who said "I don't know anything about Angola but Angola's in trouble" before elbowing a player on the Angola team.

OK, forget everything I said about Dream Team 2 (I just wanted to show the team some love) or was about to say about any other team that probably shouldn't have had "Dream" in their name (like 1996's Dream Team 3 with Mitch Richmond and Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson). The 1992 Dream Team is and will always be the greatest team ever assembled!

Forget the summer league and the Team USA exhibition games, the most entertaining NBA action of the summer came from the Team USA practices and scrimmages: Jimmy Butler getting buckets on everybody, crazy trick shots from D'Angelo, unexpected dunks from white people and lots of instances of Carmelo Anthony screaming "$hit" and "Fuck" at his teammates.

Since most of us weren't lucky enough to be in attendance to hear Melo or see Kyrie Irving wearing a "don't be a little bitch" wristband, Baller Visions was nice enough to create an "Uncensored Funniest Moments From Team USA Training In Las Vegas" video.

I'm sure Coach K would appreciate the mix as much as he appreciates Irving joking around in practice.

Jimmy Butler was cooking during the 1-on-1 drills at the Team USA practice. The drill allows you to take a maximum of 2-dribbles before taking a shot and in many cases, 2 was 2 too many for Butler against a few other NBA All-Stars on the roster. The player with the most luck against Butler was Harrison Barnes. The new Maverick caused the visibly much bigger and stronger looking Butler to miss the most shots during the session.

Butler also shined in the drills on the defensive end, getting blocks on Jabari Parker (14:41) and D'Angelo Russel.

One of the most exciting duels between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James didn't happen in the NBA Playoffs or during a Christmas day game but in Vegas, during a 2007 Team USA basketball scrimmage.

LeBron scored 18 points and had the highlight of the game, when he blocked a reverse dunk attempt by Kobe (4:48 mark). But it was The Black Mamba who walked away with the Player of the Game honors after scoring 26 points (seven in the final two minutes) and knocking down what turned out to be the game winning shot over Tayshaun Prince with 6.6 seconds left in regulation. Down by one, LeBron went one-on-one with Kobe and tried to answer but missed a shot at the buzzer.

Kobe’s clutch offense and defense made up for his lack of knowledge of international rules that almost cost his team the game: With 21.3 seconds left, Kobe tried to call a timeout, not knowing under international rules, only a coach can call a timeout. After the game, Bryant said he wasn’t trying to call a timeout and that the “T” he made was to tell the refs they should call a technical on Jason Kidd for elbowing him in the stomach “l(fā)ike it was a game from the 80s.”

Comedy Central's Key and Peele returned this week, with, in my opinion, one of the funniest episodes ever. One of the best sketches from the episode was based on one of the funniest moments, in my opinion, of President Barack Obama and Kevin Durant's career.

Back in 2012, Obama visited KD, LeBron and Team USA before a warm-up game against Brazil. The first guy he shook hands with was a white Team USA staff member and the handshake was your standard "Hello, how are you?" type greeting. Then he got to Kevin Durant and gave him one of those "What's up, bring it in!" shakes and hugs.

From the looks on the faces of James Harden and his Team USA teammates, I would say they were a little confused by New Zealand's Haka Dance of War, which was performed before today's game.

Minutes later, New Zealand looked just as confused trying to guard Harden and Team USA in the 98-71 win for the Americans.

The USA Men's U17 team's game against Japan on Tuesday was a real nail-biter. After only going on a 22-0 run to start the game and having a 44-6 lead in the first, the USA team was still able to pull off an 84-point win:?122 to 38?!

The bench was decent, outscoring the Japanese bench 59-5, which made up for the USA's lack of dominance in the paint, where they only outscored Japan 86-14.

All jokes aside, the USA youngsters were professionals that performed well on the court and showed more class than me off the court.

“These guys did a great job of staying focused today,” said USA head coach?Don Showalter, who now owns an overall 20-0 win-loss record in FIBA U17 World Championship Games. “The thing we focused on is doing things the right way. We’re still working on getting them to do things the right way. When you respect your opponent, you still play hard. The worst thing you can do is disrespect your opponent, not play hard and make a mockery of the game. So, our kids really focused in on that and that’s what we wanted to do.”

Despite the dominant performance by the US team, the Japanese team did?compete hard for the entire game, especially Rui Hachimura, who scored 25 of the team's 38 points.

“I really credit Japan for not giving up,” said Newman. “They played hard each play down the court. They’re small, but they’re tough. They have a lot of heart. Tor those guys to come out and compete like they did really speaks a lot about them.”

The US team also beat China 113-71 yesterday and will be playing Serbia in the FIBA U17 World Semifinals.

It was a day full of highlights including competitive scrimmages, one-on-one battles between Kevin Durant, his ex-teammate James Harden and Paul George and of course action from Derrick Rose.

"He looks better,"?Paul George?said of Rose. "He looks like he's coming off the MVP year. He's really been aggressive. He's been flying across the court. We've seen him last year in the regular season; it still looked like he was holding back a little bit. It doesn't look like that here."

Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Charles Barkley, all players from the original Dream Team have come out and expressed their opinions about the matter and here's what each of them had to say.

Michael Jordan:

Jordan's "we didn't learn from them, they learned from us" comment isn't really a valid argument and really means nothing besides a cop-out. Also it's safe to say that at least 8 of the guys will eventually go down as Hall of Fame players.

Scottie Pippen:

Scottie keeping it respectable, not much to say.

Charles Barkley:

"Oh yeah, that's no disrespect," Barkley said. "I ain't got to badmouth them. But like I said, their point guards weren't going to beat us. That's a no-brainer. "

Barkley also brushed aside Bryant's comments about the Dream Team's age.

"I just started laughing," Barkley said. "How old is Kobe Bryant? He's 34? And he's calling us old? At the time, we were only like 28, 29. Michael Jordan and me were the same age. We were both 29. ...

"Other than Kobe, LeBron (James) and Kevin Durant, I don't think anybody else on that team makes our team."

First of all Barkley is crazy to say that the point guards on the current team weren't going to beat them. After our 3 spot, the point guard position is where we would give them the most trouble. Could you imagine John Stockton and a retired Magic Johnson trying to keep up with CP3, Westbrook and Deron?
