After seeing themselves trail for a majority of the game, Tampa Catholic finally took the lead in the last minute of the game before Kyle Gensler hit the go-ahead 3 pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation. After a missed attempt by Tampa Catholic, Gensler found himself at the line once again to try and seal the deal. Unfortunately, after hitting the first free throw to put the Imps ahead by 2, Gensler's second attempt came off the rim as Knox dribbled from 3-point line to 3-point line and banked in the game-winner as time expires. Tampa Catholic will advance to the next round of the John Wall Holiday Invitational to face the winner of Thornlea/J.M.Robinson.

The Battle of Concord went down last night as Wendell Moore Jr. and Cox Mill hosted VCU committ, Lavar Batts Jr. and Jay M Robinson. The game pitted the top senior in the state versus the top sophomore. It was a tale of two halfs as Cox Mill came out the gates taking the lead early on behind guards Francis Sio, Colin Noone, and Wendell Moore Jr. The Chargers were consistent all half as they went in with the lead. The momentum didn't turn until Jay M Robinson started hitting consistently from the arc, ultimately cutting the double digit deficit to single digits going into the 4th. Enter FRESHMAN, Isaac Boothe. The 5'10 sharpshooter came in and drained 3 three balls, got an and 1 finish, and nailed the go ahead 3 pointer in OT. Ultimately it was the senior Batts Jr. and company that prevailed in a sold out environment 74-71 as a last second heave from Moore Jr. came up short.

Basketball started officially in the #HoopState this week as the Phenom National Showcase commenced at Greensboro Day School. The kickoff event hosted some of the top teams in the state along with some powerhouse names from around the region. Headlining the event was no. 1 Oak Hill led by seniors Tyshon Alexader, Devontae Shuler, and Billy Preston. Word of God, Greensboro, Cannon School, Providence Day, and Greenfield were a few of the schools representing North Carolina. The weekend was full of top plays whether they were poster dunks, handles, or even a game-winning basket.
