On Episode 138 of the Ballislife In The Paint Show, hosts Ronnie Flores and Ani Umana talk off the cuff about a variety of topics as the travel ball season comes to a close, from players properly resting up during the dead period to their reaction to the passing of the great Bill Russell.<\/p>\n
The fellas talk about some of the young players they recently saw, including Ron's top 2026 and 2027 performers from the Ballislife Jr. All-American Camp in SoCal. Ani dishes on the Elite 24 roster for this year's event on August 12 and why the UAA circuit gets a bad rap for player talent.<\/p>\n
Ron and Ani also break down their top NYC Point GODs as a tribute to the recently released Showtime Basketball documentary. The fellas give their take on why the doc should be celebrated for its highlighting of 80s and 90s NYC basketball culture, but why the 1960s and early 1970s will always be the Golden Era for NYC basketball in terms of its importance and impact on the culture.<\/p>\n
The fellas also salute the great Bill Russell, the Celtics legend and all-time NBA winner who passed at 88 on July 31. Russell was a pioneering athlete whose laser-focus allowed him to prosper in a city where many wanted to see him fail or be gone. The fellas talk about his beginnings at McClymonds High School in Oakland, Calif., what kind of a prospect he was, and what he personally meant to them.<\/p>\n
